February 23, 201610 yr http://m.mlb.com/mia/video/topic/47150746/v544032283/mlb-now-on-mattinglys-no-facial-hair-policy/?c_id=mia Good clip of MLB network debating the facial hair policy. Several points were made but of note, Al Leiter defending the Marlins strongly. Admin, quick question, would you know if the facial hair thing is more from Mattingly directly or is it the organization wanting to go this route and Mattingly just being the one to enforce it as manager?
February 23, 201610 yr Author Admin, quick question, would you know if the facial hair thing is more from Mattingly directly or is it the organization wanting to go this route and Mattingly just being the one to enforce it as manager? Organizational decision (Loria I believe). Don was fine with facial hair but accepted this as the policy and will enforce it as manager. He isn't mad about it, but it wasn't his idea.
February 23, 201610 yr Loria probably said yeah because it was a Yankees thing. I'm gonna argue that one because Loria has always been a Yankee fan and in recent years facial hair was allowed. While it may have Yankee roots I think this is another little thing where Loria is showing he really wants the Mattingly era to be what rights this ship so he's knocking out the facial hair issue right from the start before it becomes an issue later. I don't care about the facial hair but I do appreciate the team making an effort to be consistent about this thing from day one. If they're gonna make a change like this, do it now so it's done right.
February 23, 201610 yr The Marlins had a facial hair policy didn't they? and up to last year they were more tolerable to the facial hair, now they're back again with their no hair policy? so much for Mattingly mustache. Teams should implement to have their uniforms used the same way too by all players wearing them, now that's classy
February 23, 201610 yr According to Jeff Conine on MLB Network, the facial hair policy applies to clubhouse employees too.
February 23, 201610 yr Author According to Jeff Conine on MLB Network, the facial hair policy applies to clubhouse employees too. Also applies to fansite administrators
February 23, 201610 yr I actually like this. Like this when the Yankees did it & I liked when it the Reds did it. Think Dave Parker had a problem with it with the Reds.
February 24, 201610 yr Author How come the Marlins only adopt the dumb things that the Yankees do and not the good things?
February 24, 201610 yr How come the Marlins only adopt the dumb things that the Yankees do and not the good things? If we shave like the Yankees in here, we will lose to the Yankees out there!
February 24, 201610 yr In his closed-clubhouse address Tuesday before the first full-squad workout of spring training, new manager Don Mattingly fired up the Marlins with a passionate address that inspired players, coaches and even owner Jeffrey Loria. “I went out to practice like I wanted to eat the world,” Marlins ace Jose Fernandez said. Said Marlins pitcher Tom Koehler: “I got chills. I don’t think I was alone.” One coach called it “the best speech I’ve heard in 40 years of baseball.” Even Loria offered high praise for Mattingly’s 15-minute talk. “It was the best I’ve ever heard, the best talk to a group of players that I’ve heard in a long time, since Jack [McKeon],” Loria said. http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article61986502.html
February 24, 201610 yr Big G says shave this Mr. Loria This is from the Marlins' Facebook page today with the headline "Photo Day"
February 24, 201610 yr I want to see more of "photo day". I'm serious too. I remember in 2012 with the new team and new look we got to see a lot of the photos and it was nice, I clearly remember them taking pictures up against a yellow background. Where can we see some of this year's photos?

February 24, 201610 yr Author Do the Yankees have a garish home run sculpture, annoying teens who dance on the dugout, ugly uniforms/logo, a willingness to fire a long tenured announcer because of player complaints, an anti-sabermetric attitude, refrain from making international signings, and a general aversion to spending money? Well, I suppose they do have Donovan Solano, so there's that.

February 24, 201610 yr I know it isn't facial hair but the Marlins wanting to create a professional atmosphere that isn't full of unnecessary distractions becomes more noticeable when you have clowns like Yoenis Cespedes the last three days showing up to Mets camp in three flashy over the top choices of vehicles. The cars are nice and the man is now rich but if this doesn't scream of a player looking for attention I don't know what does. This is very 2012 Ozzie Guillen, Heath Bell, The Franchise... I hope this is Exhibit A on how the Mets will bomb this season. I'm glad the Marlins and Mattingly are being more insistent on a professional, team-first, business-like approach to just winning ballgames and not on being attention whores, whether it be through facial hair policies or anything else. http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2016/02/22/165275376/
