Marlins Player Jersey Guide ... who would you pick?

Featured Replies

A conversation topic for a little fun... Sports on Earth has an article from a guy who collects Cardinals jerseys and he made a jersey buying guide for each team with which player name jerseys fans of each team should/could buy. The interesting part was that he divided each team into jersey categories and gave three choices per category. I wondered what some of you would put as the answers to each category. This is for the Marlins but feel free to include options from other teams as well if you're a fan of theirs or just figured you had good answers for that team. Here are the three categories he listed plus one more that I thought fit the list...

Historical: Retired or former players. Franchise legends.

Current: Guys/stars currently on the roster.

Smart fan: Names that are good but trivia style names in franchise history but that wouldn't be popular choices for a casual fan, like wearing a Dave Roberts Red Sox jersey or an Aaron Boone Yankees jersey.

Hipster/Contrarian: What's the most opposite, so-uncool-it's-cool jersey you could wear? The person perhaps most disliked by your fan base, or the worst free-agent signing, or just someone silly? Think of this as the equivalent of wearing a "Jeb! 2016" hat.

Here's his article if you'd like to check it out... http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/165868742/mlb-jersey-purchase-guide-every-team-martinez

For the Marlins he put:

Historical: Conine, Beckett, Nen

Current: Stanton, Fernandez, Ichiro

Hipster: Piazza

...I think that's more of an outsider perspective and some of us would change those choices around so have at it...

Putting my choices in a separate post...

Historical: Conine, Sheffield, Lowell

Current: Stanton, Jose, Gordon

Smart: Scott Pose, Mike Mordecai, Carlos Delgado

Hipster: Nigel Wilson, Jorge Julio, Heath Bell (Honorable Mention: I'd love to see someone do an 05 Manny Ramirez or a 2012 Pujols Marlins jersey)

Historical: Livan Hernandez, Luis Castillo, Derrek Lee

Current: Stanton, Gordon, Yelich

Smart: Piazza, Zeile, Bones

Hipster: Julio, Heath Bell, Olsen

Historical: Castillo, Brown, Sheffield

Current: Yelich, Stanton, Gordon

Smart: Harvey, Johnson, Bonds

Hipster: Jennings, Cosart, Stokes

Historical: Conine, Johnson, Kotsay, Nen, Raines

Current: Stanton, Cosart, Koehler

Smart: Rapp, Hammond, Armstrong, Dawson

Hipster: Fabregas, Choi, Abercrombie, Salty

 Historical-Cliff Floyd, Luis Castillo

Current-Stanton, Gordon, Fernandez or Yelich

Smart-Millar, Destrade

Hipster-Hayden Penn, Yusmeiro Petit

My favorite number is 10. If you're favorite number is 10 as well you're as smart as me.

Historical: Cabrera, Beckett, Luis Castillo

Current: Stanton, Dee, Yelich (just bc of contracts)

Smart: Counsell, Mordecai, Dontrelle

Hipster: Hanley, Uggla, Hermida

Edit: Dontrelle might be a poor choice for smart. However, he became irrelevant so fast that it might take a smart baseball fan to realize he was once one of the best pitchers/one of the faces of Miami sports and all of baseball. + he won a WS here.
