Again without Bosh to finish the season up with the 3rd seed was great. Too many games in that first series with Charlotte got to Johnson/Deng. They disappeared. To push a game 7 after being down 3-2 without Whiteside was great. I'm not overly upset about the result. More or so about the lack of production from the "veterans". It will be a real interesting off season though. Heat want Bosh to retire, Bosh doesn't want to. Heat could be on the hook for $20 mil in dead money if Bosh can't play but still doesn't retire (can't remember exactly why, but something with Bosh going down after the ASB) It could get ugly. Dragic, McRoberts, Bosh, and Winslow are the only ones under contract to.
May 15, 201610 yr Had a hard time really getting annoyed with their loss. They didn't have a center to play. They didn't even have Bosh as a makeshift center. They managed to make it to game 7, so, no complaints. Just, ship out McRoberts. Sign Whiteside. Umm, Winslow looked like he can be a great asset to replace a guy like Haslem upon retirement.

Dragic, McRoberts, Bosh, and Winslow are the only ones under contract to. I don't think they overachieved. Many expected them to be in this position before the season began. When Bosh went down it was definitely a punch in the gut since it happened against after the All Star break and it's definitely a series condition. Joe Johnson did a great job when he came over and really played great, but he was pretty much non-existent in the playoffs. The same can be said for Deng. We could not hit 3's consistently against the Raptors, as a matter of fact we were pretty much atrocious outside of Wade beyond the arc. We really needed a big man in this series to grab the rebounds and challenge their guys driving to the paint. Wade was incredible and for the Heat to basically make it this far with the team on his back said a lot. Even if Bosh retires this year, Heat are still on the hook for the salary this coming season. I really hope he comes back. We are definitely a different team with him. Signing Whiteside will be big, question is how much money will the Heat offer. I wouldn't mind bringing Deng back. Him and Winslow are a deadly combination. Defensive wise. McRoberts / Haslem / Johnson have got to go.

May 16, 201610 yr Yeah @squall Joe Johnson. No question he played a huge role in our play once he was acquired but he hasn't been the same player the past couple of years. The Heat right now can only offer him the veteran exception which is around $2.5 million. He did sign here with the understanding of wanting to come back next year. If the #1 priority is to infact pursue Durant then he is off the table regardless. I would much rather have them retain Deng, who Dragic said he will do his best to help convince him to stay. They also need to do their best to try and keep Whiteside, we haven't had a great shot blocker like that since Zo'. I also don't think the team will be regressing next year, if anything they can certainly match what they did this year. Richardson and Winslow only figure to get a lot better and Tyler Johnson did great before getting hurt and was even putting it together after the injury. It's the Gerald Green,Show Reply Haslem, McRoberts combination that didn't help us.

May 18, 201610 yr always like your thoughts, should Heat resign Whiteside? Is he worth the max contract. I think the Heat can get away with not offering Whiteside a max contract and still retaining him. It'd only be a small discount. The Heat don't have his Bird Rights, so anyone's offer is a totally equal playing field of course.. but once you factor in jock taxes and potential future endorsements as a brand of Miami, there's very few places that can compete with the offer that wouldn't also be asking him to take a discount. I think the most important thing for Whiteside's camp is the max length of contract. For a guy who has bounced around on tons of teams and in various leagues across the world, I'm sure he's excited to get some guaranteed money in the NBA. I bet teams will be hesitant to offer him the max though, due to a handful of question marks associated with his play and character. Ultimately, even if he can be had at a lower cost, I doubt the desperate Heat take the gamble. I imagine they go after him at max. Without Whiteside, the future of this Miami Heat team past next year is very bleak.

Considering he can command around $22 million in the max, I would say yeah. That would be an ideal situation to get him for that amount, but I think meeting in the middle around $18-19 million is more likely to happen. No state tax here so it evens out anyways.

The maximum length is 4 years if he signs elsewhere, and 5 years if he re-signs with his original team. The NBA CBA is filled with little loopholes and asterisks that encourage players to stay with their original teams. Things such as Bird rights and 105% contract values exist solely for the purpose of talent not doing what it did and coming to South Beach. It's not necessarily true that he'll command $22 million in the max, either. That's all depending upon whether or not the NBA cap actually does jump the $20 million it's expected to. But, as of right now, he's only eligible for roughly $17-18 million. As for the state tax thing, I wouldn't overstate it. It definitely helps, but they're subject to the whole jock tax system. There's several places that are similar to Florida if they've got low taxes and are in divisions with other low/no tax state teams. I'd venture to say this is mostly a reason for an athlete to avoid second market teams in California and the Northeast (endorsements in the first market teams probably offset the tax thing anyways).
