Posted May 26, 20168 yr Very nice win.. Nicolino is not improving, possibly regressing? Nice to see Gillespie take advantage of a start, also makes me comfortable knowing that Stanton isn't necessary for a win. GO FISH!
May 26, 20168 yr I was honestly sleeping while Nicolino was pitching tonight, but I would have to think tonight's start was a step in the right direction? Not sure, but didn't he just make one mistake to LoMo? He had 6 K's which is very surprising.
May 26, 20168 yr It will be a big boost to the team when Stanton returns in August. Nice win, Miami!! Pen showed up big time!
May 26, 20168 yr 3 out of wc #1 nym 2.5 out of wc #2 pit we play them next week. this is why you need to win now. great win.
May 26, 20168 yr What's good about the recent stretch of play is while they have not been playing particularly well, they have avoided the type of lengthy losing streak that they would have fallen prey to in years past.
May 26, 20168 yr Also, we have Jose going tomorrow for the series finale and then we get the Braves this weekend. What I'm trying to say is that I'd like to be 28-22 after the game on Sunday.

May 26, 20168 yr A sweep against the Braves will make me so happy. If we want to make the playoffs, we have to start beating teams like the Braves. Sweeps are difficult, but we can do it. At the very least 2 of 3 is a must in that series.
May 26, 20168 yr A sweep against the Braves will make me so happy. Game at a time. Get through tomorrow.

May 26, 20168 yr overall it definitley looked like a step in the right direction for nico...seems to be realizing he can't get away with nibbling like he did in AAA
May 26, 20168 yr Author overall it definitley looked like a step in the right direction for nico...seems to be realizing he can't get away with nibbling like he did in AAA I think ultimately this has been the biggest issue for him thus far.
May 26, 20168 yr If Carter Capps would've stayed healthy, we could've had the best bullpen in baseball. For all the talk of our weaknesses in the bullpen, it's mostly been the guys who are either no longer here or guys who are now pitching in mostly irrelevant situations. Mattingly's kinda chilled out a bit with Morris which is nice to see. Anyway, the backend of our bullpen has been pretty fantastic. Ramos is 15/15, Phelps has arguably been the best setup man in baseball, and Barraclough, while occasionally frustrating with the walks, has an ERA under 3 with elite stuff as seen by his elite K rate. Anyone know when Nefi Ogando is coming back? He looked pretty good before the injury.
May 26, 20168 yr Credit to @legacyofCangelosi who defended the pen early on, he was right. The pen was awful and blew plenty of games before we have what we have now though.
May 26, 20168 yr Credit to @legacyofCangelosi who defended the pen early on, he was right. Yeah, I thought it would be pretty bad without Capps. Thought AJ would be fine, but Phelps has been the surprise of the season so far. He should get Edwin Jackson's no-trade clause. Our starting rotation needs to get on the pen's level.
May 26, 20168 yr The pen was awful and blew plenty of games before we have what we have now though. I take my credit back, sorry @legacyofCangelosi, I tried to be nice to you and @pollyvonwog would have none of it
May 26, 20168 yr The pen was awful and blew plenty of games before we have what we have now though. I blame Mattingly's usage for that. Even though he deserves credit for figuring out that Phelps should be the setup guy. He figured that one out pretty early. I wish he would extend his best relievers a little more in games, but it's pretty clear that he's a conservative manager. I guess it works both ways. I really liked the way Cash managed the game on Monday night, but, at the same time, they lost that game and, because of the recent usage, he didn't have Erasmo & Colome for the game tonight, which probably hurt them. Mattingly seems to be the type of manager where everybody in the bullpen has their inning and they are simply going to pitch that inning regardless. Sometimes, it would be nice if he would adapt his managerial style to the game. I don't see why Phelps can't pitch two innings sometimes.
