Dunn coming back Tues or Wed

Recommended Posts

I just saw that Stanton also available for today or tomorrow as PH. Not sure when he's back in lineup but we need him back ASAP. I have a new appreciation for Dunn since he's been gone. Hopefully ureña is sent down and not Wittgren.

I'm hoping the same.

Also hoping Morris doesn't get an immediate spot back in the bullpen when he's off the DL.

The DL stint seems to have already done wonders for Dunn.  Almost everyone seems to have forgotten that he has been one of the worst pitchers in MLB since he got here.

Anyway, I also hope Wittgren stays instead of Ureña.

Dunn as consistently misused by the old regime. Hopefully Donny can use him properly and effectively.

As for Morris I thought he was having season ending surgery?

Dunn was good from 2013-2014. He ranks 9th in left handed rp fWAR in that time frame. He did take a bit of a step back last year, but that was mostly home run related and probably won't continue (nearly double the HR/FB rate compared to the three years previous).

I don't know why this place has such a hate boner for Dunn. Not everybody is going to be Chapman, but he's p solid

It's just never good to be in a position where you have to hide the ineffectiveness of your relievers by putting them in specific roles.  And honestly, Dunn had been used in a variety of roles with little success.  I obviously hope it works out, but I'm not holding my breath.

I disagree. Modern baseball is all about defining set roles for relievers. A lot of teams do it and it works for them.

Dunn and Ramos do not belong in the same sentence, unless they are being contrasted.

Are you going to totally disregard Nny's post about Dunn's #'s in 2013 & 2014? He had a rough year last year, but if he can get back to 2013-14, it'd just make the backend of our bullpen even stronger.

2013: 67.2 innings, 2.66 ERA, 9.58 K/9

2014: 57 innings, 3.16 ERA, 10.58 K/9

You wouldn't take that right now?

I would take those stats on a pitcher who hasn't routinely ruined our chances of winning.

I am, however, keeping an open mind towards Dunn and his return.  It's not like I'd rather if he stayed on the DL.  I'm just not going to treat him like the savior of the bullpen.

So you don't think that Dunn is better than Urena/Edwin Jackson/McGowan/Wittgren? The point is that he's an upgrade. No one is treating him like a savior, but the team is better with him, no?

Not to mention he's a lefty out of the pen.

I know some people think he's awful against lefties, but he isn't. He's held lefties to a .216 batting average in his career. Let's just say he's 100x better than any lefty reliever we've had this year.

You can say that for every player on the team, though, especially Hechavarria, Prado, Ozuna, and to some extent, Stanton.  Although, Stanton is his own category.

Most people like Prado and Ozuna. And I'm one of the few who's not a fan of Hech's. Even Hech, I don't think he's terrible, but just that I think we should've sold high. I don't think that he's a good hitter and the overall #'s support that.

You just said that Dunn has been one of the worst pitchers in MLB since he got here. That's going a bit overboard I think.

I never said he wasn't better.  If I had to choose a role for him, I would use him as a lefty specialist before the eighth inning and as a bridge reliever who can come in for a couple innings to get to our three, sometimes four, extremely reliable relievers.  McGowan has done a surprisingly good job.  I view our bullpen as serviceable, even though it has soft spots.  If we were to replace Ureña with Dunn, we would probably have something that would work.

That's what people are looking forward to I think.

I don't get it either.  I know we always like to have a bullpen scapegoat but he's not really it.
