Trading Hech for Pitcher??

If we land Archer, I literally can't even....

The problem is, we literally can't even. Nowhere close to enough to acquire him, especially compared to what other teams could counter with.

Seriously guys. Come on.  Your only going to get value for value. If you want a quality SP like Archer then you have to give up an Ozuna.

I know, I know. This truth might hurt the feelings of "Ozuna is a superstar" flavor of the month posters but it's just the truth.

Someone mentioned Phelps. Moving him back into the starting rotation.  It's worth a try and may be realistically our only option at this point. To many teams need a SP right now we have no leverage. Im not in favor of trading the rest of the prospects we do have left.  We already lost a good one for Rodney.

Marlins in Contention as Trade Deadline Nears

Don Mattingly's Marlins are seven games over .500

The trading deadline is two weeks away and the Miami Marlins are currently contending for a playoff spot.

Barring a dismal two week period, Miami will likely be buyers at the deadline. Rather than looking to move veterans for prospects, the Marlins should be adding talent. This approach already got underway when Miami acquired Fernando Rodney for a highly touted prospect in Chris Paddack.

The trade deadline this year is August 1st, but teams often make moves a week or more before the actual deadline. With Miami having a lack of depth in its starting rotation, the team will likely try to add at least one starting pitcher. The problem for the Marlins may end up being a lack of minor league talent.

In order to land a starting pitcher, it is likely any trade would have to begin with top prospect Josh Naylor. Miami drafted the power hitter in last year's draft and has him playing for its Single-A affiliate this year. Naylor is an intriguing prospect, but is not considered one of the elite young players in the game. This means Miami would almost certainly have to package more players along with Naylor in a trade.

Among the names that the Marlins have been linked to thus far is Rich Hill of the Oakland Athletics. The lefty is enjoying a fine year for Oakland, but is only signed for the rest of the season. Miami is unlikely to be willing to send back much talent for a rental player such as Hill.

The Marlins like most teams would undoubtedly prefer to acquire a player with multiple years of control. These players tend to cost more talent-wise however which could make it tough for Miami to outbid other teams.

Besides a starting pitcher, Miami could look to add to its bench and also its bullpen. Even with Rodney in the fold, the Marlins could try to further help out their relief corps in the second half.

You like the fact I tossed that in? "Highly touted"

Yea that was great. I totally jumped right for that part of the article like "oh man can't wait to see how Admin words this."

if memory serves Phelps was not atrocious as a starter for us right?  much better than the "next man up" we've been running out there for the past few weeks anyway.  with the addition of Rodney i woldn't feel too uncomfortable with putting Barraclough into Phelps' role and trying Phelps as a starter.  I know he won't be able to throw gas each inning like he's been able to in relief but it's not a terrible idea as far as ideas go.  The Rodney acquistion did give a little flexibility in the pen.

edit:  just noticed there was a Phelps to the rotation thread lol

Breslow just got DFA. We still don't know who pitches tomorrow.

For what team?   Triple A???  Or was he suddenly going to be Marlins SP Wednesday with 6.46 in Triple AAA?

Tuesday is Urena's and Flores' normal turn in the rotation. Based on their last outings, I agree with whoever said Flores will get the start tomorrow with the hope that he can pitch 4 innings and keep us in the game. The other (riskier) option is to bring up Ellington and let him and Wittgren and McGowan get you 5 innings.
