Just got home from the game and purposely avoided the boards during it to clear my thoughts just gotta get one question off my head... Is it fair to assume if we didn't ask for the cash considerations we might not have had to part with Capps?

Safe assumption

Safe assumption

That's all I needed to know. Fuck them. I was relatively ok with the trade before Capps and the cash were included. I was ok with overpaying for starting pitching depth. Naylor was worth that gamble. I'm not ok with overpaying even more just to get some cash back.

Fuck it. Goodnight.

Keep in mind, that wasn't confirmation because I don't actually know. But, I believe its a safe assumption to think that way.

I know you are angry with the trade, but you don't honestly believe we could have gotten Cashner, Rea and Guerrero for Naylor, Castillo and Cosart had we kept the contract. Capps was the only way, and was always going to be the only way, we added a starter, let alone two, in this market.

Admin is just assuming but SOMEONE had to be included for the cash considerations. If Hill/Loria would have said "keep the cash" we probably would have kept one of those four names. We're assuming it was Capps but considering he was the final name added I'm thinking it was him.

I'd feel a lot better if there was no cash involved because that would mean San Diego insisted on Capps being involved. The cash part says to me that someone was thrown in by Miami just to get that cash back. If they didn't want the cash they could have kept someone

He wasn't the final name added. He was the final name reported. It's shocking to me that people don't realize Naylor and Castillo were throw ins here. Every deal was always going to begin with Capps. Be objective.

Yes, I do believe that.  Cashner is just not a very good pitcher and hasn't been for 1 1/2 seasons now. He's been *slightly* better than Chen this season, but not by much (ERA+ of 82 vs 79).  Not to mention that Cashner is only signed though the end of this season.

Rea has promise, but he's certainly not shown much in the full season he's been pitching. He's probably not much better than Cosart at this point.

This trade was pretty one-sided and likely could've been made without including Capps if Loria has sucked it up and eaten the remainder of Cashners salary.

If the deal centered around Capps he wouldn't have been reported last.

Not to mention it makes zero sense.  Preller is smart and knew in this market he could do more than get a reliever coming off tommy john.  He wanted him but the deal wasn't centered around him

The problem is, I really don't know how much blame to heap on Hill.  It seems like a lot of his deals or picks are affected by money, which says to me that Loria has a significant hand in the process.  Maybe Hill isn't as incompetent as he seems...

Valid point though I still think Hill is incompetent.  It's a great joint venture in fucking the franchise over

I saw an interview with Preller and I don't think he even mentioned Capps. Considering what a stud Capps has been that's pretty telling to me.

Seems pretty clear to me that the convo at the end involved SD saying they won't pay the cash unless CC is included

@chuck carr wants to be "right" about his prediction that CC could be traded so much that he's now making up illogical scenarios

I was actually right about Capps being included because I have known for weeks that every conversation with teams for a starting pitcher included Capps. Every one - once guys from the starting roster were excluded. And by the way, here's an actual prediction - Capps' career will be known more for potential and injuries than for success. His elbow will never be right.

Yes, I'm sure you're an insider.

Bro Guerrero is 2 months older than Capps. They are not even close to comparable lol

Except one blew his elbow out.
