2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Featured Replies

It's funny, when I said we'd be dealing Capps you all said no, that nobody would want a guy coming off TJ. Now that we move him, it's like we traded Yelich. We have a very could, young offense. We have an excellent, deep bullpen. Our rotation is bad, but now Cashner gives us a boost. Yes, he is a boost. He throws hard and will play well in meaningful games with our defense and bullpen. And Rea is another arm to help with depth. I love Capps, but a guy who throws like that coming off TJ is a big risk and we have a lot of righty bullpen arms. Like I said, if Cashner pitches in the post season it's a good deal. I am surprised you all don't appreciate how hard it is to have a window like this. The NL East is only getting better. We can make the playoffs! All this doom and gloom is unwarranted. We are better today than yesterday.

For some stupid reason decided to look up capps 2015 numbers  :rain

Look up how many innings he pitched for us during his time here.

Capps just recently turned it around with the Marlins. He was dominating last year but before that he was very inconsistent. The whole trade for money is what is stupid. But to say he was our saving grace on this team is a joke.

You make the deal now and hope it pans out later. Hill is a freaking idiot because he has shown to pull stupid and questionable moves. But I have don't dislike the players on the field. Just a good product with stupid management is how I see it.

Capps career as a marlin = 1.5 WAR

Dunn career as a marlins = 1.6 WAR

What does Mike Dunn have to do with how little Carter Capps pitched in his tenure as a Marlin?

*I love Carter Capps, btw.  Sad he was in this deal.

I'm pretty sure @pollyvonwog is pointing out that Carter nearly matched Dunn in WAR in a lot less time showing how much more valuable he was.

So Mike Dunn sucks?

Ok. Agreed.

Carter Capps didn't pitch enough for us.  I think that's a fair statement.

Obviously I would have rather they traded Mike Dunn over Carter Capps.

People seem to completely disregard Rea. He's had a couple very nice stretches this year on a team with bad defense. He's controllable for several years. He will likely be in our starting 5 next year. Capps coming off TJ next year will be used so delicately that Ellington could have a more productive season. We all know we overpaid. However, we dealt a relieve coming off TJ, 2 non top 100 prospects (Castillo not top 200) and Cosart to give us a chance this year to make the playoffs! And we get a starter for next year. We have helped our team for the next 2 seasons. You may call me shortsighted, but nothing we have up is of top shelf quality. I can live with it.

Carter capps literally pitched the greatest 21 innings of baseball ever pitched

also wanted to point out how absolutely useless dunn has been yet he stays on the roster

Well, yeah, cause Marlins gonna Marlins

guyssssssss capps is an RP. he'll be used like a RP even coming off TJ (50 to 60ip). It's TJ surgery not shoulder. The recovery rate is like 80% now for the first one and so many times guys come back even stronger velo wise cause of the rehab. He is not a short term injury risk sheesh. He's a top 3 RP in baseball. Andrew miller is also top 3 and the yankees won't take giolito for him. This trade is pure and utter shit. That's it. keep grasping for straws if it makes you feel better though.

I'll put $100 down right now that ellington doesn't even sniff capps production next year. that's a silly statement

It's totally conceivable that Carter Capps' delivery will be illegal by the time he's healthy.  That's kind of a thing, too.

Odds are Capps is gonna be dominant still and you don't dump him because you're afraid he won't be. It's worth keeping him to see that happen. They literally threw him away today

Yeah. The only way I would have been okay with this is if we were getting someone like Pineda or Sonny Gray, and even then I would have been hesitant.

It's a bad trade for the Marlins organization, polly.

It's a good trade for the 2016 Marlins organization that hasn't made the playoffs in 40 years.

This can't be real. It's like too stupid even for Mike Hill

See this stupid deal was made necessary by the unnecessary trade of Paddack for Rodney.  We needed a starter not a reliever.  When we traded our best chip, we had no ability to get what we needed without sacrificing significant assets like Capps and to some extent, Naylor.

For all of you short sighted fans happy with the Rodney trade, you can't really complain about what Hill did here.

I question if its even good for the 2016 Marlins. There's no guarantee Cashner and Rea will outperform Cosart and Urena.  I know how bad Cosart was and Urena was earlier this year but Cashner/Rea haven't been that good either this year. Way too much to give up for a potentially small gain.

Which is why Cosart and Naylor and Castillo for a small gain was worth a risk. Capps made it way too much more than just a risk.

Rodney makes our bullpen better in 2016 and he replaces Capps in it for 2017. This trade has nothing to do with Rodney I still defend that trade.

Nope because they've already cleared this with mlb. You don't trade him away just in case mlb changes their mind on him.

bingo.  it's really not even good for this year.  it's pretty much a lateral transition that mortgaged our future.  here's hoping some of this years picks start working wonders in the minors because we really have jack spit now.

Lets say they outperform them....well by how much? Its like going from shit to shit with a few pieces of jeweled corn.

Right, we got fleeced and there's no way any Marlins fan should be happy about this deal right now.

If they end up winning the WS because of it, I'll love the deal but I don't see that happening.

You think Mike Hill hopped forward when he literally threw Capps away?
