July 29, 20169 yr Fernando Tatis and Erik Johnson. Tks. Bet nicolino would get it done. Obviously its not gonna happen
July 29, 20169 yr Tks. Bet nicolino would get it done. Obviously its not gonna happen What's funny is even if the Marlins did that, it wouldn't make this Capps deal okay.
July 29, 20169 yr We have Jose, the best pitcher in baseball outside kershaw, and 7 #5 pitchers. Great.
July 29, 20169 yr Loria making money before he sells after the asg? IM TOTALLY SHOCKED. I hope Ichiro gets his 3k hit in chicago. Oops he did it again
July 29, 20169 yr They wanna dump shields contract. Something like Garcia or nico. Yeah but loria isn't going to touch that
July 29, 20169 yr I didn't want Cashner. But you just knew it was the only cheap-fuck, dumbass overpay option for the mentality of this FO
July 29, 20169 yr do you guys think once we get a new ownership group that locking up our stars will start to become a regular thing? Or is it just the way things will always be in Miami. If I knew players like Jose, Ozuna, JT, etc were going to be around for the long haul it would be a lot easier to stomach these awful trades. We legitimate have one of the top 3 lineups in baseball...all we were really lacking is a real number 2 SP and another 4 era guy from being annual contenders. We are young and having promising players all at the major league level. There's no reason to think we shouldn't dominate the NL other than the fact our FO is out of their minds and stingier than hell.
July 29, 20169 yr While I don't like this deal, I truly believe this is setting up something else. I wonder if they are working on a big cash eating deal with the Yankees. I don't know what we would give up but getting some combo of Arod, CC, and/or Teixeira paired with Pineda is what I am thinking. I would be ok with something like this because the expensive vets all have playoff experience . I just saw Rosenthal said the Nats would be interested in a Miller for Giolito trade straight up so I think the Yanks may be gearing up for full sell off. I don't know though. I don't know why you would think that the Padres pickup up money on Cashner will translate into us taking on more money somewhere else. We always overpay with assets in order for the other team to pick up salary. That is part of the reason we are in this mess prospects wise. The Dodgers ate Haren's and Dee's contracts and so on. Every trade that involves a decent contract coming back we ask the other team to take on the money. It't their MO. I hope you are right but their track record suggests otherwise.
July 29, 20169 yr Author I've decided to stay a Marlins fan until after the ASG here because I have an account with MasterCard so I'm gonna honor that for them and then I'm out.
July 29, 20169 yr I really have never had a favorite player even when I was younger. I didn't even hate the Cabrera trade even though he was a fan favorite. I always was aware that I was rooting for the name on the front of the jersey and not the players. But man, Capps was different I truly loved watching the guy pitch and even though he wasn't here for long I can say he's my all time favorite player. He was just so uniquely great.

To be fair, they have locked up some of their stars (Stanton, Yelich, Gordon), and no team outside of the Yankees can afford to lock up every single young star they have. Wait until the Royals lose Hosmer and the Orioles lose Machado.

July 29, 20169 yr That's why we took money for the Cashner contract, to sign Machado eventually. No no. That was for Harper. The Machado money is coming in the next deal they make, which should be any day now.
July 29, 20169 yr That's why we took money for the Cashner contract, to sign Machado eventually. No way man! Colin Moran is the 3B of the future....
July 29, 20169 yr Author You can't spell Cashner without Cash You can if you spell it incorrectly. Like Casner or Cahner.
July 29, 20169 yr Author IF they go out and make an intelligent move to acquire a bad contract that brings talent, even a rental, I won't give a shit about taking cash in this trade. I'm not holding my breath tho. This is true. The cash could be useful but they've yet to prove they can do that right.
July 29, 20169 yr Decided I won't be full blown upset until after the trade deadline. I'm going to give the front office a bit of leniency, I believe they'll make a few more moves to set us up (Bad contract Sp who's capable of being a 3, Valencia?, loogy) i still have that ounce of faith left in me.
July 29, 20169 yr Author They do have the benefit of time between now and Monday but they do not have the benefit of a farm system or their past history which says otherwise.
July 29, 20169 yr They do have the benefit of time between now and Monday but they do not have the benefit of a farm system or their past history which says otherwise. TOR didn't give up much for Melvin Upton, which leads me to believe a Valencia type guy won't be too much. If we take Shields contract I'm not sure how much they expect from us (Jeff Brigham, maybe Flores?, with the assumption CWS just want to get rid of him) and a lefty has to be pretty cheap, like an Xavier Cedeno. We got a bunch of OF prospects who could be moveable with the Yelich/Stanton deals.
