July 29, 20169 yr Fuck this franchise: The Padres will cover around $2.275MM of the $2.5MM remaining on Cashner’s contract this year, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. Ridiculous, fucking ridiculous because we KNOW that's part of the reason we got hosed.

July 29, 20169 yr Ridiculous, fucking ridiculous because we KNOW that's part of the reason we got hosed. This franchise will never be anything more then mediocre as long as Loria and Co. Are in charge.

And that's why we had to give up so much talent. Because Loria hearts his precious money. as I've said a million million times before, this franchise is absolutely doomed with Loria as the owner.
July 29, 20169 yr And that's why we had to give up so much talent. Because Loria hearts his precious money. as I've said a million million times before, this franchise is absolutely doomed with Loria as the owner. 100000% agreed.
July 29, 20169 yr If they are smart they would try to see what they can get for Koehler who is a Cashner clone. We now have 6 SP without Chen. If and when Chen comes back that would give us 7. If we can get something decent in a sellers market then they should consider it. Of course no one else will pay for Koehler what we paid for Cashner. Ah, fuck it.

I defend him plenty but I will not defend this trade. This was an awful deal and the fact he wanted money as part of it which cost us much-needed talent... its mind boggling and fucked up.
July 29, 20169 yr When will MLB wake up and take this team away from Loria and ban his ass from ever owning a team again. He ruined the Expos and he is slowly doing it to the Marlins.

Koehler should net you more than Cashner given his control. Chen is also probably done until 2018 or late 2017 anyway.
July 29, 20169 yr I don't get what you're saying. We were after starting pitching whether we got Rodney or not. We could have traded Paddack for Cashner straight up. Probably could have gotten better than Cashner. Maybe Paddack and Naylor for Cashner and Rea. We get to keep Capps and Castillo and Cosart. That improves us for 2016 and beyond. But by acquiring an unnecessary piece (Rodney), we had a lot less in the minors to trade for SP. which means we had to kick in a dominant RP in Capps. Have a little foresight and look more than 1 move ahead.
July 29, 20169 yr We could have traded Paddack for Cashner straight up. Did AJ Preller tell you that? Because I highly doubt it considering they were searching for SP all along.

July 29, 20169 yr @Admin believe it or not long sort of defended the trade w rea especially. With that said I sort of coming to terms with it then the cash considerations came out. What a buncha assholes

July 29, 20169 yr Who the hell is Cashner anyway? A career league average starter with an ERA+ of 97. And guess what, his last 2 seasons he is sporting ERA+ of 85 and 82. He is considerably a below average starter. And not much better then what he's replacing. Cosart has a career ERA+ over 100 and he sported an 84 ERA+ last year (one point worse than Cashner). i would be shocked if we couldn't have gotten a rental of Cashner for Paddack. Peeler would have been a moron not to make that trade. Of course, he did one better by waiting out the clown show that is the Marlosn FO.
July 29, 20169 yr If you think the fish didn't try to get a SP before they got Rodney, you're being naive
July 29, 20169 yr They could NOT have gotten Cashner for Paddack straight up. Preller didn't get a brain in the past month, he had one back then too.

This was an awful deal and the fact he wanted money as part of it which cost us much-needed talent... its mind boggling and fucked up. I've been saying this from the start. It's been a pattern: salary dumps, trading our competitive balance pick, drafting inferior talent to sign below slot, getting inferior talent back so the trading partner eats salary. He is not managing a sports team in good faith. IMHO.
