2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Who the hell is Cashner anyway?

A career league average starter with an ERA+ of 97.  And guess what, his last 2 seasons he is sporting ERA+ of 85 and 82.  He is considerably a below average starter.

And not much better then what he's replacing.  Cosart has a career ERA+ over 100 and he sported an 84 ERA+ last year (one point worse than Cashner).

i would be shocked if we couldn't have gotten a rental of Cashner for Paddack.  Peeler would have been a moron not to make that trade.  Of course, he did one better by waiting out the clown show that is the Marlosn FO.

Id wager paddack Naylor cosart no cash considerations gets the same deal done.

They could NOT have gotten Cashner for Paddack straight up. Preller didn't get a brain in the past month, he had one back then too.

Using my time machine, I just asked Preller if he'd do the deal and he said yes.

And I went into the future and no, we don't do squat this year. And Admin still hasn't gotten laid.

Disco back to us????!!!! Let us know the truth Admin, stop playing with our emotions man...

So, without playing results, is this arguably the worst trade the Marlins have made in recent memory?

I say "without playing results" because, while the Cabrera trade turned out to be horrendous, it at least looked like the Marlins were getting two blue-chip prospects out of it at the time the trade was made.

Copy and pasting a portion of an article I read today sums up my views on this "worst trade the Marlins have ever made".  Here's what we gave up for 2 starting pitchers (which we were forced to do because of Chen and our 5th starter situation):

"still-in-A-ball soon-to-be-24-year-old Luis Castillo, first-base-only-and-maybe-just-a-DH Josh Naylor, currently-on-the-DL-after-Tommy John-surgery reliever Carter Capps and thus-far-failed major league starter Jarred Cosart"

Gotta love the complete and utter lack of context in this post. Nice.

Dude, we traded Carter Capps--arguably the most dominant reliever in baseball who is young, cost-controlled and will probably be absolutely fine next season--for a pitcher who is arguably worse than Tom Koehler.

P.S. Nice quote job. As you can clearly see, I did not say "worst trade the Marlins have ever made." What I said was, "worst trade the Marlins have made in recent memory."

Pretty significant difference there, brother. But go on.

They were working on this trade before Chen's injury.

And we are pretty positive that Capps was merely included so the Padres would pay most of Cashner's miniscule salary, right?
