July 30, 20169 yr Marlins asked Preston and Eduardo to come out if retirement I think Conine and Pavano may be more helpful. And already have been Marlins!!
July 30, 20169 yr Marlins didn't really have a choice. It's a sellers' market. We could have held out until Monday and maybe gotten the arms needed, or just pulled the trigger now. I think everyone is shocked at the cost of doing business, but as we have seen, its really on par with the existing cost for talent acquisition. You either have to: a) sign talent b) draft talent c) trade for talent Marlins have not done a great job in drafting talent especially in rounds 3+ recently. Marlins have been absent from the international markets by and large. So you are forced to either sign talent (which wasnt done enough of last winter) And now you have to trade for talent. The names seem like a lot, but when you have a farm system rated as one of the bottom 3, its going to appear like more talent was traded away than really was. Problem is, Marlins try to do everything on a budget and a shoestring budget at that. Small market teams need to focus on talent procurement via drafting and international markets as this is cheaper than signing free agents. But the Marlins dont do that, mostly due to their knee jerk reactions and rarely having a long term plan that they actually stick to. It is what it is. Enjoy the winning now, because then raises are going to be happening, that will most likely be curtailed and as history has shown, firesales have rarely resulted in sustained success.
July 30, 20169 yr He wasn't the final name added. He was the final name reported. It's shocking to me that people don't realize Naylor and Castillo were throw ins here. Every deal was always going to begin with Capps. Be objective. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app Every deal was always including Naylor also. Let's not be obtuse.
July 30, 20169 yr The problem is, I really don't know how much blame to heap on Hill. It seems like a lot of his deals or picks are affected by money, which says to me that Loria has a significant hand in the process. Maybe Hill isn't as incompetent as he seems... Money aside, Hill has done a terrible job of evaluating talent and drafting in the later rounds.
July 30, 20169 yr Guerrero is nothing but an intriguing arm, but there is some potential. The point of this deal was to help now. Naylor, Castillo and Capps can't help now. Paddack couldn't help now (and could be hurt). It's not easy projection prospects outside the top 100 or guys coming off TJ with a history of arm issues. It is easy to say we added 2/5 of our rotation in a playoff push. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app I thought you said he had elite stuff.
July 30, 20169 yr Sorry, what's this? Is it a tweet? From who? Says Twins are shopping Nolasco, Milone and Abad

A very solid 42nd post.

July 30, 20169 yr It's happening! I kinda hope it does happen to be honest. If it happens, I assume Minny pays the bulk of Ricky's deal and without that much talent going back so its a low risk move. I think he pitches better in Miami.

If they couldn't get anything that would actually improve the team, they should have kept Capps. They had a choice. They just made the wrong one.
July 30, 20169 yr They had a choice. They just made the wrong one. This should be the new team slogan.

July 30, 20169 yr Padres looking to dump Kemp....Braves appear to be interested....Padres ask for Hector Olivera...Braves respond with no comment which means they were sitting in the GM's office laughing to themselves saying "who the fuck do these guys think we are? THE MARLINS!"
July 30, 20169 yr I had a 20 minute convo with Ricky once, it was impromptu. We were both waiting for the valet to bring the cars at the same time and it was taking longer than expected. He's a very down to earth nice guy. I want to see him succeed again and he has friends/family in Miami as well as a winning team he can be a part of. Bring him home.
July 30, 20169 yr The worst thing about trading Capps is that they sold low on him. I hope they trade Ozuna in the off-season so they can sell high on him.
