2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Featured Replies

Cashner looks like a great get.  Seen him pitch a lot and when he is on, he is damn good on.  Traded some minor league trash for him, so cant be all the bad!  People were enamored with Naylor and the power display he put on a couple weeks ago, good for us to get rid of him!

I've seen Rea guys and he will be a solid #4 at the very least, something our Marlins are sorely lacking.

To be fair, the Marlins were proven right about Henderson Alvarez coming off an injury...they do have more information about this thing than anyone.  Perhaps they just feel he'll never be able to remain healthy with that delivery.  It is violent and he hasn't stayed healthy yet in his career.

good gamble by the A's.

Guerrero could pitch for this Fish this year by the way as well. He's got work to do, but has elite stuff. Kind of like Capps a few years ago. We weren't getting starting pitching for free people. We paid a steep price but why does it not matter that Rea could be in our rotation for years to come? That doesn't mean anything? If he is our #4 starter for the next 3-4 years, plus we make a playoff run this year plus we add a bullpen arm who can throw upper 90s, why such negativity? Rea starts for us Saturday and Cashner on Sunday, and we are fighting for a playoff spot. We gave up low minor leaguers and a guy out for the year. And good riddance to Cosart.

It's funny, I was the only one to state that we'd be dealing Capps away in this process. When I did, people said no way, he's hurt. You do understand that we didn't have the goods to add more than Cashner/Rea. Ervin Santana, who I wanted, was our only shot because of the $. Plus, the team rightfully wanted a controllable asset, instead of a pure rental, and got 2. I love Capps, but you do realize that other than him, we didn't give up much. And we have Ramos, Rodney, Phelps, Wittgren, Ellington, etc. - lots of controllable righty arms. We had to make a move for starting rotation depth especially with Chen out. And we didn't have the assets to do better than this. I preferred Bud Norris for Paddack and pieces than Rodney. But that shipped sailed. So, if this is what the market dictated, and I believe it did, for us to add starting pitching, then I am on board. Cashner and Rea will be much better with our defense and pen than they were in SD. Maybe Capps is great next year and maybe it wouldn't matter because Jose gets hurt and we finish under .500. You never know. You have to play for this year and we traded (as I predicted weeks ago) the only assets we had.

Dude you are beating your "I knew we'd trade Capps" statements to death. Ok we get it. You knew it all along.

Right.

in AA this year: 1.2 WHIP

in AAA this year: 1.75 WHIP

in MLB this year: 2.00 WHIP

he throws really hard which his only comparison to capps. His secondary stuff is garbage
