2016 Trade Deadline Thread

Featured Replies

Guerrero is nothing but an intriguing arm, but there is some potential. The point of this deal was to help now. Naylor, Castillo and Capps can't help now. Paddack couldn't help now (and could be hurt). It's not easy projection prospects outside the top 100 or guys coming off TJ with a history of arm issues. It is easy to say we added 2/5 of our rotation in a playoff push.

You yourself said Rea has long term potential, which implies his value doesn't come right at the start. He does in fact have potential, but at this time it doesn't look like he'd help much this season.  I just don't believe this trade puts the fish over the top and if you send that haul, it needs to at least give you a legit chance at a WS title.

Those in love with Guerrero probably loved Jorge Julio too.

That's low even for you!

I was maybe only be I g 15-20% serious. You know me better than that. We always agree @Admin.

Just making the point that this wasn't only a rental like the Urbina deal, which involved Adrian Gonzalez who by himself was a better package than what we just traded. Rea could also help us this year.

I'm not commenting on this deal anymore. I respect all of your opinions on the deal and fully get it. In my opinion, I like that we went for it. I think we overpaid as I have said from the beginning but that was the price in this market. I don't like the cash part either, but do not believe that was why we included Capps in the deal, by a long shot.

Go Marlins.

Just thinking out loud here but this trade makes me wonder if Capps was a non-tender candidate going into next season. Ramos and Phelps are expensive, $2 mil for Rodney, Wittgren/Barraclough/Ellington are cheap options, plus whatever LHP they get. Idk what Capps would get in his 2nd arb year, but they might not have wanted to pay anything for an injury prone guy like that w all those other options. Not saying I'd want that to happen, but it's a possible scenario.

In that sense, Capps for $ and Guerrero reminds of Cishek for $ and Barraclough. Try and salvage something for a guy you're probably not bringing back. JMO

Just a thought, everyone start praying that Chen's injury really isn't serious. If he surprises and comes back in a few weeks that could be a nice boost.

Agreed especially if the injury was part of the reason for his sub-par work.

@knglover please tell me what makes you think Guerrero will ever be like CC.

I don't, I was kidding and stating an obvious difference between the two. I bombed in my attempt at humor. Please ban anyone of your choosing except me, of course.

They are trying to make more deals.

For SP? Because this trade barely improved the SP, so...
