October 3, 20169 yr The bonds firing just smells of two strong egos not getting along in Mattingly and bonds. I'm sure bonds and stanton didn't get along with stanton growing a small ego and feeling he's good enough not to have to listen to bonds and bonds getting upset bc of it. Bonds deserves a hitting coach job somewhere next yr. He did a great job with young hitters this yr. The lack of runs and power is more a problem with the makeup of the lineup than the production itself. He'd be a good hire for any team.
October 3, 20169 yr Lenny Harris and Cornelius is weird too because what did they ever do wrong. But to be honest a lot of this sounds like Don just making decisions after a full year with these coaches. Decisions that he thinks will help the team going forward. It's fair and not crazy. Other teams make these minor coaching changes as well, let's not crucify the Marlins for this one. Third base coaches always get a lot of unfair scrutiny, but I thought that Lenny Harris kind of sucked. Made more blunders than Espada did. Not as bad as Bo Porter though.

October 3, 20169 yr Espada seemed to be better than most and Porter seemed worse than most so Lenny to me just seemed as average as any other third base coach. No big deal really.

I have a feeling that this is an ego thing between Mattingly and Bonds and Loria sided with Mattingly. That's unfortunate because I'd rather have Bonds in the dugout if I had to choose between the two.
October 4, 20169 yr Seriously, why do people keep saying he was fired? He wasn't. He had a one year deal. They just didn't renew it.

October 4, 20169 yr According to The Post’s Kevin Kernan, who spoke with an MLB coach, Mattingly would have gone so far as to step down down as manager if Bonds returned for another season. The drama keeps intensifying!!!
October 4, 20169 yr I think there was some "power game" in coaching staff, Loria and Marlins org. have declared and supported Donnie the winner. A coach over a manger? I didn't heard that. Just an arrogant man lost.
October 4, 20169 yr Fire Mattingly! Bonds for manger/hitting/pitching/fielding/first base/third base coach! But really, can we get rid of Nieves and hire Bud Black as pitching coach?
October 4, 20169 yr But really, can we get rid of Nieves and hire Bud Black as pitching coach? Not if Atlanta hires him as manager first, could be weird if he takes both jobs.
October 4, 20169 yr Loria is terrible.Loria has been long time friends with Bonds and he was a good hitting coach, and you fire him?.That guy is cruel.
October 4, 20169 yr Loria is terrible.Loria has been long time friends with Bonds and he was a good hitting coach, and you fire him?.That guy is cruel. If its true that Don said its either him or me, Loria had little choice.
October 4, 20169 yr Are you implying it isn't true? I have no clue, it could be true. Just saying, it keeps getting more and more dramatic.
October 4, 20169 yr I have no clue, it could be true. Just saying, it keeps getting more and more dramatic. Sounded sarcastic
October 4, 20169 yr I have a feeling that this is an ego thing between Mattingly and Bonds and Loria sided with Mattingly. That's unfortunate because I'd rather have Bonds in the dugout if I had to choose between the two. But there's no choice between the two. Bonds was on a one year deal and Mattingly is the manager. If Loria had kept bonds over Mattingly and the player's wishes he'd be back to stupid meddling Loria. He did the right thing in this situation regardless of what anyone thinks of bonds or of Mattingly.
October 4, 20169 yr How bad could bonds have been that don would threaten to step down? Seems drastic.
