New Bullpen

Ramos, Barraclough, Ziegler, Tazawa, McGowan, Phelps and Jose Urena break camp

Unfortunately, if Urena isn't traded, he will break camp with Fish like Brad Hand did because he has zero options left.

Leaves Cervenka (3 options), Wittgren (2 options), Ellington (2 options), Steckenrider, Lazo, Brice in AAA

All kidding aside, it's quite possible we have the deepest pen in the big leagues, despite the lack of lefty.

Nothing against him, but I still think it'd be a good idea to trade Ramos.

According to Samson they are happy with their bullpen and wont be making anymore moves in that department.

Good to hear. I wish they would grab one of Fister/Nova/Hammel

okay, so I'm gonna throw out my two cents. I just want to hear your thoughts. Move Phelps to the starting rotation, add Neftali Feliz. Then literally all we have to do to be a good if not very good team is Hech has to be a major league average hitter.

We wont be good in 2017. Even if we add a frontline starter to the mix. My thoughts are that we are gearing up the bellpen to be an attractive landing spot for a few starting pitchers next winter. By than Luis Castillo should be in the starting rotation, we will know if Chens off year last year was a fluke and we will have a better ubderstandibg of who and what we are as our club sits.

Another crazy idea.

How about a 4 man rotation next year? Move Koehler to the pen. Phelps/Koehler can alternate days to piggyback starters & have Tazawa/Barraclough/Ziegler/Ramos as the backend of the pen.

Also could keep Koehler in the rotation and try the experiment with Locke.

SP's on a 75-80 pitch limit instead of 100.

McGowan could also be a part of the piggybacking considering he's a long reliever too.

Give me a 25-man bullpen

Bring Stanton out of the pen. He makes enough money.

Isn't Locke essentially a guaranteed roster spot? He's at least one of those "pencilled in" guys. That's worth remembering for the bullpen because if they sign one more starter or someone like Nicolino or Urena steps up in spring training, Locke could get booted from the rotation and into the pen. It's a lot like Edwin Jackson's position last spring training where he was competing for a rotation spot but wasn't exactly gonna not make the team. So the last bullpen role is basically a battle between Locke, Urena, Wittgren, Ellington, and any potential late acquisitions.

I don't think they're doing anything else with the pitching honestly.

They're going to add a right-handed bat and that's it.

Yea,because we spent $3MM on him already,so of course he needs to give us his best in the BIG LEAGUE.

Id like this idea if they get a respectable 1-2 pitcher. But that sounds great. And works with the bullpen concept hand in hand.

Can't because Hand is gone.

Unfortunately, Urena is out of options and will most likely be the #7 bullpen pitcher on roster to start the season

If we didn't add Tazawa and Ziegler than maybe, but I don't think he would owned a guaranteed spot in the pen after those signings.
