Forbes: Handshake Deal in Place for $1.6 Billion

MLB is said to not like situations where the buyer doesn't have the liquidity up-front

Between cash and assets? ARod probably has half

Just FYI Alex Rodriguez is from NYC and is involved in real estate. I doubt he has the capital to be very liquid, and MLB would most likely give him a pass on this requirement.

id be into that but no way A-rod comes close to having even $1b in assets

Ownership group. Arod is probably worth 500 mil. Get a few more guys and the group has enough. If that one tweet is correct its not arod anyways.

Him and Jeter as majority would be fun to imagine.

I don't get why Loria wants to sell if he's healthy. He's going to make a killing but what does he need that he doesn't already have? He seems to enjoy owning a team even if everyone hates him.

He's almost 80 and has nobody to leave the team to.  Franchise values are high.  He's won a WS, got a stadium built, and now has the All Star game.  What's left to accomplish?  Might as well cash in now and enjoy his windfall while he's able to do so.  Just my guess.

$1.6Billion?

If that's the real price, Loria should have to give half of it to the people he fleeced for the stadium.

I surely hope this is true. Would make this season a success no matter what happens on the field.

Bring back the old Logo!!!

The team should do a countdown on the outfield wall akin to the last season at Sun Life. 81 home games and counting until the HR sculpture is a thing of the past!

(Assuming Loria really is selling next year)

Imagine if the new owner likes the sculpture so much that he builds a second one

Doubt a new owner comes in right away with changes to the uniforms and park design.

I just want to not be embarrassed of this franchise anymore.

Speyer could be an option. Began career as assistant to VP of Madison Square Garden. Owns Rockefeller Center and Chrysler Building

"Mr. Loria"

When you're in the business world, you know how to word things. I've called him Jeffrey in other emails. Samson told me Jose wasn't going anywhere in the past when the trade rumors started among other things. I'm sure many on here have emailed him before.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. It's a shame he made a profit, but at least we're free of him.
