Volquez named Opening Day starter

Featured Replies

Wow pretty shocked that Chen isn't getting the 2nd game.

If anything I thought it would be Chen, Straily, Koehler to follow.

Shitty spring but I think he wins the job

Shitty spring but he's been consistent his whole big league career. I can't see him being sent down or starting the year in the pen.

He would go to AAA if he doesn't make the rotation I am sure but I think he'll be the fifth starter anyway

Just my guess but maybe they're trying to replace Conley with an outside acquisition and then if they get someone he goes down but if they can't then he gets the 5th starter spot.

Like they're comfortable with letting him open the season in the rotation but if they can find an upgrade then they'll go that route so now it's basically a wait and see for about the next week or so.

I don't like these wait and see propositions.  Get it settled NOW or quickly.  Wait and see too long!

Nicolino, Urena and Conley all with multiple scoreless innings over the past 2 games. Any word on Nicolino's velocity today i.e. any truth to recent reports he's found an extra few mph?

That's not how I meant it. They're not waiting to see if they can acquire someone, they're trying now but it just happens to take time and isn't a certainty. With the season only 9 days away they can't option Conley down now not knowing if they can acquire an upgrade.

With Conley's upside this shouldn't even be a question.  He has performed well at the MLB level.  A shitty spring is going to erase the last two seasons?  If anything, Koehler should go to the pen if they acquire an upgrade.  I'm hoping they are just trying to motivate him.  He's the only one of the five that has talent, isn't past his prime, and isn't a fluke.  SMH
