December 15, 20178 yr Have you ever been less excited for an opening day? I know the lineup isn’t set but Jesus Christ this looks awful. How many longtime fans are not exactly marking their calendars for that first game? We’ll see when the time comes, but I think this may be the first season since 2001 (I was 8) that I won’t follow too closely, but who knows, maybe il be surprised I’m skipping Opening Day for the first time in at least 10 years. And I’m not some over emotional person who is vehemently against a fire sale. But I don’t like how several things were handled in regards to Stanton, PR, MLB, broke owners and the Ozuna trade. i think if you’re going to move Gordon, Stanton and Ozuna, you have to come away with a blue chip prospect. A Vlad Jr type. Maybe they’ll get one with Yelich. But, yeah Marlins Park, see you for the 2nd game of the season this year. I’d like to add that I really question the judgement of any die hard, suffering Marlins fan that attends Opening Day this year.
December 15, 20178 yr I’d like to add that I really question the judgement of any die hard, suffering Marlins fan that attends Opening Day this year. You're entitled to your opinion but I fail to see the difference between a fan attending Opening Day and going the second day such as yourself.
December 15, 20178 yr You're entitled to your opinion but I fail to see the difference between a fan attending Opening Day and going the second day such as yourself. I think there’s a big difference. Think about it for a moment. Of all of the 162 games, what game is ownership expecting the biggest turn out for?
December 15, 20178 yr I've been a fan since the beginning. November/December 2001 was the worst, because we weren't sure if we were still going to have a team in 2002. We didn't get contracted or relocated - instead we got Loria. Even after the 2012 purge, 2013 Opening Day wasn't so bad because there was this kid in the minors named Fernandez who was pretty exciting and we had a 23-year-old in RF who just put up a .969 OPS with 37 HR in 123 games. This is a lot worse - it's going to take years before this is better. Yelich is a pretty good, but even if he stays there's no way he's the best player on a contending team. There's nobody in our minor league system, including the guys we just got in the purge, who screams out "Major League All-Star". The Miggy/D-Train didn't work for us, but Maybin and Miller were 2 of MLB's top prospects at the time and are both still playing 10 years later.
December 15, 20178 yr FUCK OFF JETER I HATE YOU YOU WWILL NOT GET MY MONEYS FOR OPENINGS DAY!!!!! PS: I'll see you everyday from Games 2-162... muah!
December 15, 20178 yr Focus on the big picture. People should be upset because there has never been a sustainable product. A joyful baseball experience is one where you anticipate and receive a winning experience over a period of years. look at our ridiculous run o form 93-96: sub .500 97: world champs 98-02: sub .500 03 - world champs 04-09: 4 winning seasons from 6. No playoffs 10-present; all losing records Personally is rather a sound organization that is consistently at or above .500 makes the playoffs semi regularly and actually wins the division. We’ve never won our division. We’ve never had a regular season run where we looked the dominant team and heading into the post season were favorites. Still waiting on that. This club needed a change in direction.not another Groundhog Day season. Put me down for a yes for 2018.
December 15, 20178 yr It’s also flawed logic to even think an elite free agent pitcher would agree to sign here let alone the number we needed
December 15, 20178 yr It just amazes me the level of outrage over dismantling a team that had losing season after losing season. There was no viable way to turn them into a winner. Signing an ace and more isn't a viable choice for a team deep in debt with no promise of increased revenue. If they tore down the WS champs like 1997, that'd be one thing. This was a losing team. I don't care to watch another 70-win season, it is pointless when a guy like Ozuna was going to walk in 2 seasons anyway. This had to happen. Man up and accept it or just go root for another team that is currently a WS contender if that's what you need. I will disagree. With better pitching the core group was good enough. I think they should have found a way to rid themselves of Tazawa, Ziegler ,Prado, Dee Gordon and others and gone from there. l know it's easier said then done but it's not impossible. Also, if anyone should have sucked it up it was the new ownership group. They should have sucked it up and ponied up. However those are points on which we can just agree to disagree. What I don't understand is why the people against the rebuild are always told to go cheer for another team when voicing their displeasure. We have a right to disagree and voice our opinions and still love our team. #FuckJeter
December 15, 20178 yr Not excited for opening day. Been following this team since the beginning. I've been waiting for this franchise to get it's act together for a couple of decades. I'm numb at this point.
December 15, 20178 yr Which city would lost their MLB team first ? Oakland,Tampa Bay or Miami ? Tampa They don't even have a team there now!
December 15, 20178 yr I hate to say this but the franchise died along with Jose... Hard to maintain a winning franchise without an Ace starter Imagine last years team with Jose starting every 5 games They would have won 90 games at least Look who is our Ace right now ?....Urena... some say Streily That is on Mike Hill...The Marlins have no excuse for how piss-poor their minor league talent is, they can't blame that on small market, poor attendance or price of tea in China! You draft poorly, you scout poorly you trade poorly that is what you end up with, just a bunch of fringe minor leaguers who all kind of look the same Back of the rotation starter prospects at best and toolsy players who all have problems in areas of swinging and missing The Marlins have a bunch of clones in their minors and none of them are really that good!
December 15, 20178 yr What I don't understand is why the people against the rebuild are always told to go cheer for another team when voicing their displeasure. We have a right to disagree and voice our opinions and still love our team. I think this is more against those who "cry wolf." I don't think we want anyone to leave the fanbase and yes everyone has the right to disagree but several are irrationally saying dumb things like "if they trade one more player I'm done forever" and I myself have no problem showing people like that the door. Especially because it's just drama and they never actually have the guts to go.

Not to mention free agent high priced pitching is a horrible way to invest in a team, and because this organization has 0 minor league depth in case of an injury, we were 1 injury away from that plan just delaying the inevitable. This team was nowhere near playoff contention despite getting career years from JT, Ozuna, and Stanton, Bour when he played, and Dee having a great year too. Also, no one is taking tazawa, ziegler, and prado from us unless we pay the majority of their contracts or trade another one of our assets with them. So no, we couldnt have gotten rid of them and cut payroll that way without also deconstructing the team in one way or another.
December 15, 20178 yr I think what we need more to worry about now was the long term existence of this team, with the long time low attendance number I don't think MLB able to make money from this team and that would be a much more big issue than winning or not.
December 15, 20178 yr I have been a fan since the '92 Expansion Draft.... kinda tired of the playoff drought. I'm not getting any younger and kinda getting tired of waiting. Leaning towards not giving a fuck anymore.... sorry, but that's how I feel I'm close to you this way....been with them every step of the way, including watching every pitch of John Lynch's opening day in the minor league franchise opener (yes they televised it)
December 15, 20178 yr Not to mention free agent high priced pitching is a horrible way to invest in a team I always believe it's only depends on the LUCK and no others, with bad luck we got the injured Chen and Volquez, with good luck the D-Backs got the healthy Greinke and makes to the playoffs.
December 15, 20178 yr What I don't understand is why the people against the rebuild are always told to go cheer for another team when voicing their displeasure. We have a right to disagree and voice our opinions and still love our team. #FuckJeter I've never understood the "My team no matter what, rah rah cheer ! Nooooooo a fan, someone that is truly emotionally involved reacts to BAD things (whether real or perceived) that the team does. Getting rid of Waltz, getting rid of the team legends (just Conine & Jack - Perez & the Hawk don't really have any playing connection to the team - Hawk 1 season I think), that HURT. My personal connection to the Marlins right now is broken. I looked forward to listening to Rich....he was always pretty interesting and then Conine is (and will always be) Mr Marlin to me.....now they are both gone. What is there to really excite me ? I am their perfect target audience...mid-50's and some disposable income, but there is no reason right now for me to part with any of that from my wallet.
December 15, 20178 yr I think what we need more to worry about now was the long term existence of this team, with the long time low attendance number I don't think MLB able to make money from this team and that would be a much more big issue than winning or not. And that's exactly what Jeter is trying to work on. Which is why I can't understand how the fanbase doesn't at least want to give him a chance to execute his plan.

Especially because it's just drama and they never actually have the guts to go. Well, I can't speak for anyone else but I did seriously consider it. It's also the first time that I have felt that way. I was upset with other fire sales and especially when Miggy was traded but there was always a reason to hope that things would change or get better. I really bought into the whole new stadium will fix everything narrative and that's turned out to not be the case. Then I hung my hat on a new owner saving the franchise. When the new owner turns out to be as cash strapped as the old one you start to lose hope.
December 15, 20178 yr I have no problem with you and I wasn't referring to you. Aww, hey @SilverBullet1111 is there room on the boat for one more? LOL
