Move The Rays To Miami Thread

The other thing about the Rays is that they don’t hesitate to move players on in search of a better return on their salary.  This would infuriate people down here in spite of any amount of success.

The Rays success rate in making those type of moves is way better though. Because they have a competent front office — one of the best actually.

Attendance down here would also see a boost if the Yankees & Red Sox came to town a combined 20x a year.

It would be interesting. The way the divisions are set up makes no sense anyway. Why is Pittsburgh in the NL Central? Move them to the NL East like the other team in Pennsylvania and move Miami to the AL East. We can be the Rays.

The Rays were second to last in attendance last year (we were last) with a 90-win team.

They haven’t even drawn 20,000 per game in their first 2 games despite basically bringing back the same team, and facing a very good Houston Astros team.

There’s no reason for that area to have a baseball team if they can’t support a good team.

The fanbase down here has shown they’ll support good teams + every sport has a team in Miami. Not to mention all the Yankees/Red Sox fans down here as previously mentioned. It’d be way better than when the Mets come to town and we get the back and forth with their fans.

I’m with you. There are some definite realignment opportunities that should be explored.  The current setup is a relic of the old days when the leagues had two separate offices.  Having a Florida team for each league was “fair”.

Woah so maybe the Rockies were part of the problem in the sense of not being a team that draws well here? We probably got inflated opening weekend numbers last year because it was vs the Cubs. I would have figured just being opening weekend ticket sales would be higher but guess not. Gonna have to monitor attendance all year. Team still sucks but it wouldn't shock me to see attendance increase overall. Fans don't really care about the dismantling as much as they say in the sense that those bitching weren't going to games anyways so them saying they aren't going now isn't really making a difference.

Then again it does make you wonder... if the opponent's fanbase is taken out and you loosely only count Marlins fans then that means we really have less than 10,000 actual Marlins fans who actually attend games.

Wonderful.

I'll give you a reason that that's good though. The new ownership has done so many great things to improve the ballpark and the game experience but seeing that it isn't working on a grand scale is good because it will push them to do more and to do better. If attendance suddenly went to 20,000 because of the renovations and food options then they could sit on their asses and not work any harder. But it didn't so let's see what they do next.

Tampa is not supporting a good baseball team. The Rays are competitive and smart.

There’s no reason for Florida to have two baseball teams, and everyone knows that Miami is a better location than Tampa.

Why not contract the Marlins and bring the Rays down here? We can even keep the name if they want...The Miami Rays. Only change that needs to be made is to remove Dewayne Staats as a broadcaster and replace him with Rich Waltz.

I’m all in on this idea. Support me, please.

Miami Marlins or GTFO.

The Yankees and Red Sox are a bigger draw in Miami than in Tampa. That alone would bring up attendance.

It's settled, keeep the Marlins in the NL East- but schedule 20 interleague games against the red sox and yankees. The Rays can play 20 interleague games against the braves and phillies as a compromise.

I'm sure it'll increase somewhat from last year, but I wouldn't expect any dramatic rise.

Plenty of rays, almost always sunny.

And the ocean.

What a foolish idea.

To get the franchise on the right track the Marlins simply need to cut bait on inept people in their front office and staple Jeter's mouth shut.
