June 30, 20197 yr How's his UWYGB+ though? Checkmate. Actually, advanced stats paint an ugly picture for Alcantara's future. UWYGB+ is looking ROUGH. (But really, his FIP, which is a legitimate stat that has proven to be an effective predictor of future performance, shows that he's not a very good pitcher yet)
June 30, 20197 yr Not to rain on Sandy's parade but this is because Caleb is on the IL right? -Caleb on IL -Pablo on IL -Too many catchers on the ASG roster -Too many first basemen/outfielders on the ASG roster -Too many third basemen on the ASG roster -Too many SS on the ASG roster -Trevor Richards doesn't exist ALL of these things came together to make Sandy Alcantara an All-Star.
June 30, 20197 yr My own personal eye test says Sandy has way better stuff than Richards (other than change up obvi). However, I do believe in xFIP.

I actually agree with the eye test, but Alcantara is only striking out 6 per 9, Richards is at 8 per 9. Alcantara throws hard but doesn't get any swings and misses. MLB hitters can hit 98 mph fastballs, just ask Marlins legend Jose Urena.

July 1, 20197 yr Author Couldnt Caleb still have been the pick and then replaced because of his injury? He should be back soon barring setback, therefore he could have still been the representative. It makes no sense.

Yes, but then the Marlins wouldn't have had a representative at the game, which is a thing that happens when a player is injured AFTER the announcement, but it would be a bit different if it had happened prior. It would seem like the league purposely chose an injured player so that the Marlins wouldn't have a player at the game, and somehow people would make that Jeter's fault?
