Marlins interested in Eddie Rosario

Hey Marlins,

The problem with trades is that it's gonna come at the expense of some of that awesome talent you've acquired. Considering how low payroll is, free agency is probably the way to go.

Like this guys says, point is to add, not subtract. And guys like Mazara or Rosario aren't game changers enough to part with much for so it's not like we'd be undoubtedly improving by trading for one of these guys. If we absolutely must trade it needs to be for a no doubt upgrade.

Rosario is only under control for 2 more seasons, so two years we are unlikely to contend in. No reason to pay a high price in talent for that. Just sign a free agent bat.

I agree a FA should likely be the route to go, but my theory of their thinking is:

maybe they're trying to acquire guys they'd consider/like to extend longer term rather than the just plain 2-year stopgaps.

i.e. "good younger player with 2 years of control, but we view as an extension candidate" vs. "2-year cast of stop gap only"

They better extend them as they get them then, too risky to trade top young talent for a possibility.

Maybe, this is what I see in both Aguilar and Villar.

Who would start if we moved someone who is projected to start? If we moved Lopez who would get his innings? Dugger? Yamamoto? that's a big gap.

Who is the right fielder if we don't get Rosario? Puig best case, Cooper (or the like) worst case. How big is that gap. Big, but as big as the other gap, probably not. You have to assume he is only as good as the projection.

I wouldn't move any of the starting pitchers. Maybe Dugger/Yamamoto? because they could be replaceable. With Neidart. This is how I am thinking about it at least.

Yeah I don't think they should move any of the starting pitchers (except for Urena) unless they're getting someone to replace them. We have some starting pitching depth but not everyone is ready for the big league rotation yet and we already cut into the big league rotation by trading Richards and Cy Gallen so I don't think we should be cutting into the rotation anymore especially for a modest upgrade like Rosario.

This is the kinda guy I would love to see them trade for. However not at the cost of major talent. For god sakes we traded D Gordon and didn't get much top talent although we lucked out on a few of those pieces, I think we should be able to land him without touching our top prospects.

Neidert is doing well thus far so I mean.

Plus we got international signing money and used some of that to get VVM and VM Jr, I believe.

Actually we gave the Mariners the international signing money on that deal. VVM and VM Jr were signed in the following period using some of the international money we got in the Maybin trade.

Oh. :) I misread.
