July 22, 20224 yr Ok, so I held out hope until they got swept by the Phillies. 2 games under was still doable if they freaking traded for a bat (and because we all assumed Jazz was going to be back soon). But with Jazz likely being out for the remainder of the season they ain't gonna do dick the rest of the season barring some miraculous turnaround by the "Big Boys" as Don puts it. So.... Where from here? With Jazz being gone for the remainder of the year, I'll change to being all-in on moving Cooper now if they can get a mlb-ready prospect in return or even swapping for a good reliever under control. It's probably easier if i list the guys I'd prefer to keep as it's short. Sandy, Jazz, Wendle, Luzardo, Avi (we're stuck with him so he's gonna be staying), and Berti (i think he's worth way more to this team than anything we'd actually get for him. I don't want him as a full-time starter though) Literally, everyone else can be made available in the right move. I've never been big on Pablo. He's always reminded me of an upgraded Nolasco and I just don't trust him in a big game. He's a solid pitcher and could probably command a king's ransom at the deadline. If they're as high on their starting pitching depth as they want us to believe - the time is now to trade Pablo to bring back another Jazz type prospect. Likewise, if Cooper doesn't fall crazy far off...you could probably get a decent prospect at the deadline for his bat. The rest of the guys are mix and match. It would be fantastic if Soler would go on one of his usual second half romps and really raise his value prior to the deadline. I'd love to get rid of Stallings too but he's been so awful nobody will take him either. I want the team to get faster with better contact rates. Don said it, it's a team full of slow, swing hard base cloggers. I'd also LOVE to see a new GM but I think Ng will be here at LEAST through 2023 and probably 2024. I think Don will be gone at seasons end or he'll just resign as he's clearly not happy with Ng either. That lineup needs to be revamped almost top to bottom though. I probably wouldn't even be that angry if Ng found some team willing to take Avi along with a good prospect in a bs trade just to get him off the books and out of the OF as he clearly does not give a shit and has been sulking nearly all season. On a closing note, i'm not saying they need a full rebuild. I'm saying nearly everyone should be available via trade though. I know they'll keep the bulk of the guys so it's more of trade a few pieces to retool on the fly for next season. And Sherman, bro, you're gonna need to pony up some serious $$$ this offseason to get this team to the next level.
July 22, 20224 yr Definitely no need for a rebuild. A good GM/front office/owner could make this team into a contender quickly. Problem is I no longer have any confidence in this front office until they prove otherwise.
July 22, 20224 yr These are the guys you can get value from in the open market Pablo Lopez Joey Wendle Anthony Bass (decent prospect back) Miguel Rojas (marginal) Garrett Cooper (decent prospect back) Thats probably it. You can MAYBE get something back for Aguilar. Maybe a lotto ticket on a Soler. So thats the larger problem, you really have no actual tradable assets, unless you want to start making prospect for prospect trades (which isnt done much and probably isnt an awful idea)
July 22, 20224 yr As of right now, the plan is that Sandy is the #1, Eury’s the future #2, Jazz is the 2B, and…well, that’s about it. A bunch of average/below average, boring players after that. Many of them look like they don’t even care starting with the players Kim Ng brought in, which…Kim Ng looks like she doesn’t care either. I miss Mike Hill somehow.
July 22, 20224 yr They'll wind up attached Avi's monstrosity of a contract to our best trade assets to make sure we get nothing but money saved in return. Sherman will be pleased and extend Kim.
July 22, 20224 yr The problem with another rebuild is that Kim is still in charge. So no matter what they do, the team has terrible leadership to get anything done. The only goal should be to improve management and coaching before you make any decision about the future.

Bullpen, despite what Kim has done, is usually the easiest to fix from year to year. Hell, if she wasn't a dumbass Meyer and Holloway would be two prime bp candidates to use as an upgrade next year.

The number of somewhat valuable assets the Marlins have to trade is not much. Most of what they have will net you probably a marginal return at best.
