Skip Schumaker to be named manager

Featured Replies

So does anyone know how he got the nickname Skip? Does he skip breakfast often? Does he ever skip leg day? Did he like to skip school? Does he skip when he runs? Does he enjoy Skip Bayless? Does he dance Skip to My Lou?

How would we feel 'bout this?

McGwire could inject some new ideas into the Marlins' hitting formula.

Going to grab some notes from this:

https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article267855867.html

Total list of managers interviewed:

Skip Schumaker, Matt Quatraro, Joe Espada, Luis Rojas, George Lombard [Tigers bench coach], Pedro Grifol [Royals bench coach], Raul Ibanez, Clayton McCullough [Dodgers 1B coach], Dusty Wathan [Phillies 3B coach], John Gibbons

Skip "has some candidates in mind" to fill out his coaching staff.

Marlins still want to retain Mel, "discussions with him should be at the top of the agenda now."

Kim is also "hopeful and confident (that Oz) Ocampo will join the Marlins organization in the coming days."

They really needed to include the pronunciation in there eh?

I see the "one thing at a time" approach has continued.

Damn did the Marlins actually make the right move for once?

Ahhh who am I kidding... anyone want the honor of starting the "Fire Skip Schumaker" thread?

Only if we can have a corresponding "extend Skip Schumaker" thread too....

Zero coverage of Skip's press conference here? So weird.

Anyways he, Bruce, and Kim said all the right things but it sure feels like they were impressed at Skip being the total opposite of Mattingly's even keel demeanor, that he isn't here to shrug his shoulders when they lose. So as someone who's been begging for some urgency here I really like that. It did feel a bit different than the in-season motto of "meh, it's just bad luck."

And Sherman continues to say he would spend at the right times. I feel like he says that more than Loria did so he's gonna have to actually do it someday.

I wonder who will get paid more Skip or Mel?

I'm pretty sure they'll both be paid every two weeks like everyone else.

Yeah, it was pretty evident Don checked out early in the season....they should've let him go early on to show the team they meant business and that everyone was accountable.....but nooooo, it was just bad luck.

Agreed, you can only say that so many times without actually doing it before nobody believes you, and we're at that point.....crying wolf.

The press conference was all good but needless to say they have to actually follow that up with reconstructing the roster or else it was all for nothing.

They said the right things last offseason too.  It's put up or shut up time.....again.
