I really thought keeping Yeli, Realmutto and Giancarlo was the way to go. You don't get many franchise Catchers in MLB, a very team friendly deal in Yeli, and a legitimate superstar face of the franchise in NL MVP Giancarlo. They cratered any Likeability this team had in 2017. Legitimately, there was nothing left to be excited about for about two seasons. All momentum built from 2013, gone.

Stanton's contract needed to go but it was a no-brainer to keep JT and Yeli especially for what they made. IDK, with how salaries have skyrocketed stantons salary isn't that unreasonable anymore. I also feel like with a few down years in record down here- he wouldn't have felt the pressure to play through injuries.

Not getting JT back or keeping him all along was the worst movie though - even more than Yelich because it is crazy hard to find a catcher like that.

January 29, 20233 yr You also have to wonder if Jeter wasn't around that they may have re-signed Marte over him courting Avisail as Avi was clearly a 100% Jeter guy for some reason - I'll never understand WHY Jeter liked Avisail so much other than he was very much so overrated like Jeter was as a player 😃 I mean the contracts are eerily similar (especially to what Marte supposedly was asking for to remain in Miami). Literally, I think every single person on this board would have taken Marte over Avi last season before even knowing what the results on the field would be - everyone except the Marlins FO apparently. Jeter fawked this franchise over in so many ways. You see it a lot though with companies out there...some bigshot rolls in and makes wholesale changes and preaches "culture" and then a few years later they are fired or 'resign' after the company is near/in bankruptcy.

Yeah, sad thing is JT could've also been extended to a reasonable deal too, but we wouldn't pay him for some stupid reason.
