July 10, 20232 yr Marlins in 2025 will have Max Meyer and Noble Meyer as 1-2 in the rotation and Dane Myers as their best hitter.
July 10, 20232 yr DJ Svhilik saw the success of Dane Myers and probably just said "Ooooh look another Meyer! We'll take that one!"
July 10, 20232 yr So, general first thought... you'd assume the Marlins should be drafting more hitters but with their hitting development so bad and their pitching development so good, they're probably thinking just keep getting and developing pitching and some of them can be trade bait like we did for Arraez. So just keep overfilling the surplus instead of spitting in the wind and continuing to try and fail at developing hitters.
July 10, 20232 yr Also, I don't care about this draft like past ones. All these draft picks could be something or they could be nothing and that's the way it and that's perfectly fine. Just do whatever it takes to get the big league team more wins this year and in future years. So all of these guys hopefully they're either good enough to help the Marlins down the line or good enough to help the Marlins acquire other good players down the line as well.
July 10, 20232 yr I am generally not a huge fan of the MLB draft. Doesn't feel as exciting as the NFL or NBA draft where the player will come and make an instant impact on the team. It could be 3 years before Noble Meyer makes it to the team, or he might be traded away by then.
July 10, 20232 yr While it's always great to have pitching. It seems like the Marlins just do a whole lot of the same all the time with draft picks. Some of the players picked after Meyer were quite outstanding.. Nolan Schanuel is a 1B from FAU was picked right after Meyer at number 11. He hit .447 last season with 19 HR, 14 K and 71 Walks.. Left handed power hitting 1B.. Could have been really useful for the Marlins in a couple of years.. Also 3 SS were picked 12th, 13th and 15th and a power hitting left handed strong throwing arm Catcher picked 14th. All positions the Marlins are in strong need of especially down the road. But I guess another pitcher is fine.. Edited July 10, 20232 yr by SirFishFan

I would argue that Nolan Schanuel is a better player than Noble Meyer at this point. Marlins missed the boat on that one. IMO. I know it’s college baseball and that doesn’t mean too much but still 14 K and 71 BBs and power hitting LH 1st baseman? Bro, that’s some major talent right there. Doesn’t guarantee that it will translate to MLB, but still would have been worth a shot. Oh well. Edited July 10, 20232 yr by SirFishFan

We just need one of the high ceiling guys to actually achieve it though.

July 10, 20232 yr People do this every year for the draft. These players might turn out to be good, might turn out to be bad. One thing fans should stop doing is pretending like MLB teams care about position of need during the MLB Draft. They don’t. It’s best player available based on scouting and the information they value. Both guys we drafted have good stuff. The pick at 35 seems like he won’t be easy to sign (he’s committed to Vandy and is a Boras client). That could be a good sign actually that they’re not being cheap with the draft. July 10, 20232 yr Took the top prep right hander and the top prep left hander. Intentions seem pretty obvious. I think Noble signs given he was a top 10 pick, but White sounds like he will be difficult. Vandy commits usually are and he went a bit lower than his ranking says he should have.
July 10, 20232 yr People worry about position of need as if the draft picks are coming straight to the majors. It's silly.
