Another day, another arm lost for Miami as the team placed Eury Perez on the injured list on Saturday.

Perez is suffering from left SI joint inflammation and his assignment to the IL is retroactive to 9/21. Perez would not be eligible to return in the regular season, even if he recovers from the injury.

Jeff Lindgren was selected from AAA in a corresponding move and it remains to be seen how Lindgren will be utilized. Miami already lost Sandy Alcantara for the season and now is working with an even more depleted starting rotation. The Marlins have turned to bullpen games every five days, and that figures to continue.

Lindgren made 17 starts in AAA this season, and pitched in 22 total games. The 27-year old spent time with the Marlins earlier this season as well, when he made three relief appearances. In those MLB outings, Lindgren allowed four earned runs in seven innings of work, while walking four and striking out one. In AAA, Lindgren had mostly similar results in his 86.2 innings of work.

Perez finishes his first MLB regular season with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 91.1 innings of action. Perez struck out 108 batters and walked 31. Perez had already set a new career high for innings pitched in 2023, so it is possible that Miami was close to shutting the youngster down soon anyway.

Edward Cabrera is slated to start Sunday's series finale against the Brewers.

I have a really bad feeling about next year's starting staff.  We already know Sandy will be gone. I have a feeling Eury and Lizard might have some....issues as well.

 

Starting to feel like they need to seriously look hard at 2 GOOD starters in their offseason plans if they want to actually contend next year.  I know all y'all are eager to get to the postseason but man this staff is absolutely toast (aside from Big Dick Garrett) and I would literally bet everything I own that they would not win the WS this year with as shit as our remaining pitching is.

Yeah don't get me wrong: I want to make the playoffs as much as the next guy, but what we are we really left with here in the rotation? Just Garrett and Luzardo? And Luzardo hasn't exactly been a model of consistency in the second half. Plus Arraez is banged up.

Lizard is running on fumes at this point too and he's had TJ surgery twice in his life already (I think? although I may be thinking of someone else)

Not really worried about Eury or Luzardo at all next year from an injury standpoint.

 

Luzardo should be fine to go 200 ip

Eury should be good for 160  ip.

 

Eury's injury is probably a lot of nothing in the end.
