From a market size standpoint this is stupid.

Not making Fisher pay a relocation fee just shows how dumb the owners are sometimes on top of it.

Fisher has been a bad faith owner in the Oakland market for years and they allowed him to get away with it constantly.

But thats how the good ole boy owners club works in MLB (and any other sport, it takes you to REALLY do BAD BAD societal things to get you out of the good graces, well or you are just a fucking piece of shit (Frank McCourt))

This whole Vegas appeal makes no sense for baseball (really for hockey either but I digress)

With NFL it makes a bit more sense because games are once a week.

Oh well, we will see where things are 10 years from now.  And if they seriously think about building a stadium with no roof they are dumber than dumb can be.

Their proposed park had a roof.

The hockey scene and support for it is wildly successful there. I see merch for them ALL over the place out here - far far more than the Coyotes here in Phoenix (which should have just been the team they moved to Vegas in the first place).

If I recall….

coyotes were wildly successful in terms of fan interest initially as well.

Can’t judge on years 1-5.  Newness factor.

I saw some renderings without so hopefully those were either older ones or simply stupid conceptual renderings.

I recall being confused/surprised when I heard it had a roof as well - IIRC, it was actually a semi-retractable roof - and none of the renderings ever showed it closed.

Either way, I personally didn't love the design they proposed - it reminded me of the Coliseum they've been trying to get out of for decades........I think it'll change quite a bit when actual plans are revealed.

Not anytime soon and not until Fisher proves he's willing to invest in the team, for at least a few years (which most likely will never happen). Maybe when there's a new owner. They also wouldn't replace the Marlins for me.

Apparently there's a similar clause to what Loria had with the Marlins, where Fisher will have to pay a hefty tax to the other owners should he sell the team before X years (not sure the actual term).

Basically they're trying to avoid him moving the team just to boost the value and sell immediately.

I don't think anyone really knew what kind of sports town Vegas would be. We're a Hockey town, by proof, I guess.

I'm not so sure about baseball. Football, not so much right now. Maybe Basketball!

The Vegas Knights have also been wildly successful on the ice as well.  I feel that plays a lot into it.

See the Raiders being god awful on the field.

As with most sports in most towns... winning cures a lot.

So you've moved on from your years 1-5 don't count, since you were wrong about the Knights only being there 5 years or less, and now have moved on to "well, they win a lot so it still doesn't count"?

I think Vegas is built to enjoy a hockey team as it's a town built on oddities anyway and ice in the desert is kinda against the natural order of things plus throw in lots of lights, horns, and a great live sport to watch.....seems like a no-brainer to me. Fits right into that terrible town.

Yes.  I didnt know they had been around that long, my how time flies.

But reality is that winning helps tremendously.

This has been proven time and time and time again.   The real measure of if a franchise is viable is how do they do when the team isnt winning on the field/court/ice/pitch.  If they are still supported...then you are onto something!

Vegas may not be perfect, but it isn't terrible. I wouldn't expect most people to know about this city, though, so I get it. Oakland is terrible.

To add to the VGK popularity, I think it's also that it's our own team (not a team coming from Oakland), with a cool logo and theme, and add in the gold color (which lets people be expressive with it).
