Marlins Interested in Cordero, El Duque?

Featured Replies

Damien Easley is a good player and I think he will help alot in the infield when he plays not like that bum Andy Fox.

Finally someone other than me dislikes Fox

Olsen is a big possibility as the fifth starter to begin the season. He should most definately be on the 40-man roster at the beginning of the season, and is most likely not on it now due to the hit he took in Boston. He was probably never put back on it after being removed.

Olsen big possibility?? --- :lol Did I stutter?

And Damion Easely is in no way a lock to make the 25-man roster. In fact, I'd be suprised if he did.

Just one mans opinion.

Eric Karros made over $8,000,000 last year, I find it hard to believe he'd be signable in the same range as Cordero who made $600k last season.

If we don't get cordero then I wouldn't mind getting karros.

Karros and Choi = The cubs.

he did not start full time last year and nobody's going to give him any thing over 1.5 million at this point in the offseason.

I just checked Cordero's stats against lefties and he hits very well against them. Not as good as Karros but still very good.

You guys keep on talking about Cordero being able to play OF. He didn't play one inning in the OF last year.

Easely will make the roster. Easely.

And why sign Karros? We got Conine to spell Choi, if necessary. And we got Abe Nunez, yes, Abe Nunez, who should be our 4th OF. If that doesnt turn you on, what about Mondesi instead of Cordero - for a 1 year $1M deal? I think Mondesi is a little more productive than Cordero - but Cords is no slouch either. Solid options all the way around.

i wouldnt mind seeing el duque pitch for the marlins as the fifth starter until a.j. comes back. Then he could be the long reliever/emergency starter. that woudnt be to bad, he can be great and horribe. so we'll see

NO on karros.

The guy is a career .100 hitter in the majors, and everyone's basing what he'll do in the majors on a good stint in the winter league. Which the pitching is pretty much equivalent to AAA. We need that 9th bat to play first base against lefties because Choi struggles against lefties.

Nunez should count his lucky stars if he makes it on the roster as the fifth outfielder. History shows he's a streak hitter, starts off hot and then goes into his usual (and predictable) tailspin. Maybe he's maturing at the plate, I hope so, but chances are his performance in winter ball was another one of his streaks. And there's nothing worse than a cold Abraham Nunez.

He probably would have made it last year if he had stayed healthy.

Abe has all the talent in the world, and even if Winter League pitching is equal to triple-A pitching, those are pretty damn nice stats he put up.

One question that I have is: Does Nunez hit lefties or righties better? I know he is a switch hitter, but I'm not sure of his splits. If he hits lefites very well, I would ink him on the opening day roster.

I love to get Will Codero, very solid player with good pop. Lets hope he stay injury free, if im mistaking he got injured last year for the most part

I also like the El Duque part, i see him everyday working very hard with a pitching coach. He will be perfect to replace AJ, then maybe he can help out our Bullpen when Aj Burnett Returns.

I would love to get El Duque. He is a reliable starter whenever he can stay healthy, and this would also let AJ get the rest he needs to come back as strong as possible without rushing him.

Personally I hope the Bank is open often in 2005. :)

Agreed.

I think his talent is vastly underrated by most.

For me there's no question that the Fish shouldn't start the season depending on Tejera as their fifth starter. Phelps or even Bump would get my nod over Tejera but that's just me.

Given a choice I'd like to see the team sign a fifth starter who can replace Helling's role in the pen in 2003 which was long relief and as a spot starter.

signing el duque would be a great thing..1 pitching in miami i think he can easily win 10-15 games, saw him throw last week local game and he was throwing some nasty stuff...as for cordero i also like that signing cause he can hit for power and play 1b and OF...

With Burnett coming back, I don't think he'll have the chance to win 10-15 games here.
