  1. I love going to Spring Training games in person, but I rarely watch them on TV. Anyone else?

  3. Why do numbers even matter in baseball? Why do numbers matter in any sport? Never understood (unless they were a player/manager) why managers wore numbers. So do the coaches. Saw an explanation of that once, but can't exactly remember what it was or where I read it. I think it was something about at one time in the history of baseball they could actually put themselves into games. Dosen't sound right now, but I think that's what I read. Yeah it comes from managers once being able to put themselves in games so they wore a number just in case that happened. And its basically just a tradition that hasnt been broken since then. And thats clearly why they still wear jerseys as well. Yea I figured that was the reason. Back then, were they on the roster? Obviously they aren't now, so it really doesn't make sense anymore. Just tradition I guess. I think they should drop numbers all together, perhaps use lettering instead. Maybe they can be totally radical and get out of the uniform. Some do sorta right now, Francona, Torre and others wear the light windbreaker pullover, pants and the cap. I'm pretty sure they don't wear a jersey underneath it.

  5. He'd be able to keep his spring training apartment if he did.
  6. lol am I the only one who sees that Hanley totally missed that ball You say missed the ball, I say he protected his. I'll give him a pass, lol. Hard grounder that Hanley kept the ball in front of him, picked it up quickly and threw the runner out in first in time.
  7. Guess I'm in the minoriy on this one. Wasn't a Marlins fan back when they wore them, so I have no ties to them. Always felt the no sleeves looked too softballish, highschool and not Major League. The version before the black T with the teal T (and I'm a fan of the teal, but that was too much) was even worse. Never liked any of the teams wearing em, but looking back at the pics I think these were the best of the sleveless unies all the teams wore. I can see why you guys like em, I just don't.
  8. Did Piazza ever wear the home jersey?
  9. Marlins May Be Interested In Edgar Renteria: The Marlins appear to be interested in bringing Edgar Renteria back, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. The 34-year-old has an offer to return to San Francisco for about $1MM, but has said he would like to return to St. Louis or Florida to finish his career. Renteria has said he's open to playing second base if it helps him land a desirable job. The Marlins could have him back up Omar Infante and Hanley Ramirez up the middle and provide insurance in case prospect Matt Dominguez struggles at third base. Renteria batted .276/.332/.374 in 267 plate appearances last year, missing time with elbow, groin, hamstring and shoulder injuries before returning to form and winning the World Series MVP. Renteria spent the first three seasons of his career with the Marlins from 1996-98. He made one All-Star team while in Florida and helped the Marlins to their first World Series championship in 1997.
  10. All these former Yankees signing with the fish. The Marlins have agreed to sign Randy Choate to a two-year deal worth $5MM plus incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). ACES represents Choate. The 35-year-old led the league in appearances (85), but logged just 44 2/3 innings, since he's generally a lefty specialist. Choate posted a 4.23 ERA with 8.1 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 for the Rays last year. At least two teams besides the Marlins pursued Choate. The Rays offered the Type B free agent arbitration, so they'll receive a supplementary first round pick in next year's draft.
  11. Being a Yankee fan, funny the fish are looking at both that were busts for them. Since Pavano left, he's turned it around and seems like a safer bet then Javy. I definitely agree Javy has the talent, but seems like he can be another Nalsco. Really wished there were other options then these 2. But it's nice to see them willing to spend Ugla's money, and not count it with Buck's contract like we thought they would. On a side note, does anyone think Pavano and Matt Garza look alike? Vazquez was an elite pitcher not so long ago (2009). And was a bust on the big stage both times for the Yanks. Perhaps it was an AL thing and he's better in the NL. Still though, I wouldn't trust Javy in big games unless he proves he can do 2009 over again. I guess it's a gamble worth taking, since there's not much else out there.

  13. So if this is true... the point of giving away Cody was?
  14. What radio show host were they talking about?
  15. I'll miss ya Cody. Good luck in SF. Just don't come back to haunt the fish.
  16. The curve looks nice Mustache looks better .
  17. Well if this is true you gotta know that AC company that his name is... just did is breathing a sigh of relief. When the commercial first came out and the trade rumors were going rampet I thought that was a big waste of money haha.
  18. Don't even care about the walk off win. Just feel so bad for JJ. 6th time this year his BP has let him down. :banghead Such a shame.
  19. Well he's been DFA'd. I agree with you guys that I think he can help the pen out or 1 or 2 innings (even longer sometimes till he hits the wall). It'd be nice if he cleared and the Marlins had that option, but I guess they've given up on him as well.
  20. Bad matchup for me haha. Yankee fan first, Marlins fan very close 2nd. DJ's my favorite player, but I want JJ to do well too.
  21. Cano looks like Uggla 2008 out there. Far from it.
  22. So it's looking like the Stephen Strasburg game is going to be Friday night. Pretty cool. Any idea what the attendenance is looking like for that game? This is a big event town, but do you think they're in tune enough to count him as a big event while everyone else in baseball does and show up in numbers? Plus it's the first game after the all-star break and a Friday night so that might drive up the numbers.
  23. Just thought you guys should know the great Bob Sheppard passed away this morning. RIP Mr. Sheppard. You will be missed.
