Phillies fans offended by Mota
Phillies fans should be more offended by the stench coming from their underwear and the cheese whiz stains on their shirts than what Mota says.

Funny thing happened on the way to today's victory
Attendance doesnt show how many people were there, it shows how many tickets were sold (including season tickets). Has been that way for about 20 years. It was interesting when they reported actual attendance. Around 1979-81, the Braves used to have attendance less than 1,000.

Heat Offseason Thread
Heavy sales pitch planned for Finley BY BARRY JACKSON bjackson@herald.com The Heat will make a full-court press to sign free agent swingman Michael Finley during an expected visit to South Florida early this week. Eager to impress him, the Heat has placed 20 posters of Finley wearing a Heat uniform on light poles on streets next to AmericanAirlines Arena. One associate said Sunday he expected Finley to visit with Heat officials today. The Heat is believed to be offering Finley the full $5 million mid-level exception. Finley, who averaged 15.7 points for Dallas last season, has strong interest in the Heat, sources said, but associates said he also in recent days has been considering San Antonio, Detroit and Phoenix. The Pistons and Heat could each offer $5 million. The Spurs could offer slightly more than $2.5 million, but the Suns could offer only the $1.1 million veteran's minimum. Finley is believed to have already spoken with Heat president Pat Riley. WALKER DEAL The Heat restructured the contract of forward Antoine Walker after an examination revealed an arthritic condition in his knees. According to a report in The Boston Globe, Walker's six-year, $53 million deal was changed to a four-year, $30 million contract with a two-year option. Agent Mark Bartelstein said Sunday that report was incorrect but declined to say how the contract might have been altered. ''He'll get the full six years of the contract,'' Bartelstein said. ``The Heat acknowledged they expect him to get every dollar.'' Walker, 29, has missed only 19 of 706 games in his career. Bartelstein said his knee is ``no concern.'' http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/12444520.htm

Vargas pic in dugout (after pie)
Looks like a clown talking off his makeup. Why does it always look like hes wearing eyeliner and mascara? Like I said before, he can wear full clownface on the field if he can pitch like that.

FOX may have added Marlins-Cubs game
Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 1:20 PM The Marlins will be on FOX as one of the Saturday Game of the Week telecasts it seems. Nothing out from FOX yet though, but MLB.com says so. Tommy Hutton will be in the booth. WSVN, WFLX, WFTX and WFLD will have the game. 910727 A little slow on this one, Cape. May have added the game? They moved the game time from 4 to 1 a couple of weeks ago and FOX has been advertising it as their main game for about two weeks.

What is this point of this? You do realize this is the 2005 pennant chace? Cap room, what is this, the NBA? How does our bullpen look for 2009?

Bench Place(s)
Hey Arnie, are you having nightmares about these threads that you create? Because I know they give quite a few of us nightmares. And why create a thread asking questions when you answer every single one of them yourself? Seems pretty pointless to me. 909859 Aren't all of Arnie's threads pointless? Why yes they are (In fact) Dont they all just spit off jibberish mumbo-jumbo and throw in a jab at Jack wherever possible (Yes, they do.) Its enough already! The Marlins are 1 game out of the playoffs!!! Go root for the Phillies if you want to complain at every turn.

Mecir May Be Done...For Good
I know the article says he is going to try to come back, but with a frayed rotator cuff, who knows how effective he will be? Mecir seeks a comeback By CLARK SPENCER cspencer@herald.com One way or another, this was going to be Marlins reliever Jim Mecir's final major-league season. But Mecir, who had made up his mind to retire, is hopeful he hasn't already thrown his last pitch. An MRI performed on Wednesday showed that the right-handed reliever has a frayed rotator cuff, delaying his return from the disabled list and threatening what little remains of the 35-year-old pitcher's playing career. ''What it comes down to is if I was a normal player and I was coming back next year, they'd probably shut me down and clean up my shoulder,'' Mecir said. Instead, Mecir said he'll try to pitch through the damage once he comes off the DL. Mecir was placed on the DL on Aug. 7 with right shoulder tendinitis and was eligible to return to the active roster on Tuesday. But the Marlins' medical staff ordered an MRI when Mecir was unable to complete a bullpen session earlier this week. ''They were able to compare it to the [MRI] they took when I signed five months ago and they saw a change in the shoulder,'' he said. Mecir said he's now shooting for a Sept. 1 return date but isn't certain how effective he'll be. He said he'll test the shoulder next Wednesday to see if there has been any improvement. ''If I can pitch effectively, then I'll pitch,'' he said. ``There's no doubt I'm coming back. It's just a question of am I going to be effective and are they going to throw me?'' Mecir has appeared in 46 games, second-most on the staff, going 1-3 with a 3.00 earned-run average. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/12432692.htm

Just to let you know, as a school counselor who has studied IQ tests, any IQ test that takes less than 2-3 hours to administer and is not in person is completely unreliable.

He has a truly been a life-saver. I can't imagine where the team would be if he had not been signed.

Heat Offseason Thread
In an article dated August 15 about offseason winners and losers, Steve Kerr says the Heat "are supposedly on the verge of landing Finely." Here's his whole comment on the Heat: "Question mark: Miami Heat The Heat are supposedly on the verge of landing Michael Finley. After already adding Antoine Walker and Jason Williams, there's no question that Miami has upgraded its roster big time. But this looks suspiciously like what the Lakers did two years ago when they added Gary Payton and Karl Malone to an already star-studded lineup. Are there too many cooks in the kitchen? Are there enough basketballs to go around? We'll find out. "

Yet Another disgruntled Season Ticket Holder
It doesnt affect me because Im not a season-ticket holder, but it seems some of you are missing the point.? It doesnt matter if thats the way it should be done, thats the way other teams do it, or thats the only way it can be done.? The Marlins promised it as one of the perks of buying season tickets for this year only and are now reneging on it. 905916 I don't think they promised playoff tickets for buying 2005 season tickets. In the renewal package for 2005 that I got late last season, under "Playoff Priority" it read "Receive exclusive priority for purchasing playoff tickets. (Requires deposit for 2006 tickets)." That last part was in red. It pissed me off when I first read it and I'm still pretty pissed off about it, that they would take away that perk. But it is something that's been known since before the season. The Marlins didn't just spring it on us now. Maybe they should've made it more obvious but I noticed it before I renewed for 2005 and I'm not all that observant. I haven't got my renewal package for 2006 yet. I didn't realize they were raising the tickets another 10%. They raised them 33% after last season. Another 10% may be too rich for me. If it comes to giving up the season tickets, or downgrading where I sit, I'll probably just give up the season tickets and buy individual tickets for 10 or so games. 905931 If that's what it says, then I completely apologize. Like I said, Im not a season-ticket holder, so Im just going by what I had heard from other people. And if it does say that, no one has a basis to complain.

wednesday night specials for games? what are they?
Up here in Baltimore they have a sweet deal for Wednesday games. If you buy any Wendy's value meal you get a free upper deck seat. I usually get the cheapest value meal and save about $10. Plus I don't have to eat at the stadium. 905785 Man, that would be sweet. I usually get a Wendy's value meal before going to games, anyway.

Yet Another disgruntled Season Ticket Holder
I wouldn't argue the fact that those who want to be guranteed playoff seats should want to renew season tickets for next year. But, to throw that on season-ticket holders 7 weeks before the playoffs would start while saying the complete opposite the whole season just isn't right.
