What does it mean to “matter”? I guess if you really don’t care whether they win or lose then it doesn’t matter to you. But I would prefer that they lose as few games as possible. And I certainly don’t want them to reach the 100 loss benchmark.

Wtf is up with you guys constantly telling each other that nothing matters. Why are you even posting? Of course it matters.

Doing "something new" is not an effective marketing strategy. They are obviously doubling down on the "Latin" appeal, which has not been tried before. But that could also turn off other fans who would rather hear traditional baseball noises (organ music, etc..) instead of really loud Latin music. But the Comunidad 305 idea just sounds like a ridiculous gimmick, thought up by people who don't understand local culture.

I find the "wins and losses don't matter" and "I don't care about wins and losses" comments infuriating. People with this attitude are not real fans, imo. If you invest enough in a team to buy tickets to games, attend games, watch games on tv, etc..., how is it possible not to care whether they win or lose?

The Marlins are making a huge season ticket/marketing push this year, in a way they have not done in the past. This is commendable, but also likely necessary. They have probably lost money hand over fist this year.

This is what bothers me more and more. I get that fans opposed to "the process" are generally ridiculed on this board. But "the process" is dependent in large part on making the right personnel decisions. "Rebuilding" by trading your best players and getting marginal prospects in return does not work.

Who says Urena "won't factor into future plans". He certainly will be around next year, and presumably in the rotation. He's one of our better starters. There is no way he will be released over this. Now, I certainly hope they talk to him sternly behind closed doors.

There are no pubs or bars right around the stadium other than those connected with the stadium. Somebody mentioned the Clevelander and then there is a big tent like structure (Fifth Base) on the other side of the stadium. These places are open before and after the game. But, for a weeknight game the attendance will probably be very poor so there won't be many people in those bars. If you're looking to have fun pre and post game, you'd be better off on the Beach.

I don’t mind throwing at guys (not at the head of course) in the right circumstances. But the Braves, and especially Acuna, have kicked our asses for three games; total domination. It is bush league to throw at him in that situation, on the first pitch no less. And now he may be hurt. This is embarrassing.

I think the attendance - fans in seats - is less this year. It is anecdotal, based on my attending 25-30 games both years. But there seems to be fewer fans this year. How much fewer, I don't know. 1,000 a game? 2,000 a game? That would certainly be logical, wouldn't it?

In 2016 the Marlins were in playoff contention for much of the year. Last year, the Marlins started off really poorly and although they recovered in the middle of the year, there was never as much "belief" about a playoff chance. And, then you look at the dismal ratings for this year. One thing is clear from those numbers - and it should be obvious - more people watch when the team has a pulse. I know there has been a lot of effort to say that attendance and overall interest this year isn't much different than any other year. And, I don't really think that's true.

I'm unsure why Dean is no longer considered a "prospect" in the organization, but this team needs hitters right now. He deserves his chance. We have too many guys getting time who simply can't hit. I think we should legitimately consider batting the pitcher 8 when Sierra is playing - not to be trendy like Tony LaRussa but because the pitcher is probably a better hitter than Sierra.

Ortega/Sierra/Galloway was the Marlins' starting outfield in the first game of today's doubleheader in Atlanta. Is this the worst starting outfield in Marlins history? I'm sure there have been some other bad ones, but none this bad immediately come to mind.

Why was the last tv deal so bad? I'm sure some will say incompetence, but Loria and company proved to know how to make a one-sided bargain (stadium deal) so I'm not sure that flies. Wasn't it because the Marlins' deal simply came up for renewal before the huge rush from cable networks to overpay for live sports programming, since that was the only thing that people watched live? But, that has since changed with the rise of cord cutting and a la carte cable options. I wonder if by 2020 it will be too late to get a deal comparable to what other teams received a few years ago.

I didn't like Loria but it is probably unfair to paint him as the bogeyman. What I see now is people blaming him for overspending and bad deals that left the minor league system depleted. But he was also blamed throughout his tenure for fire sales and refusing to spend money. Maybe he was just a bad baseball guy. But Hill worked for him for many years so I'm not sure how to separate the two.

I went to the Marlins season ticket holder event on Saturday before the game and Michael Hill said pretty much the same thing (about the system being broken last year, goal is to build depth throughout the organization, etc.). That all sounds fine, but it would sound better coming from someone new in the GM role. How can Hill be the guy to turn it around when he has some responsibility for breaking it?

Only issue I have is that Bour is a fan favorite (and we don't have very many of those) and we seem to be getting nothing in return - just a flyer on a long term guy.

No point? They’ve got to field a team. If what they are offered is not worth what you have to give up, you keep them.

The loud music and embracing of hip hop celebrities to me is a misguided attempt to emulate the Heat’s success of creating a South Beach club atmosphere at games. That works for the NBA. But this is baseball. Young kids and families are a big part of the MLB demographic. My seven year old son lives for the players’ bobble heads but has not interest in Pit Bull or D.J. Khaled.

The argument made for trading Realmuto (uncertainty) could be applied to any player. It is uncertain that Babe Ruth will continue his 1927 pace - better trade him and get multiple prospects. Or, how about, Brian Anderson's 2018 campaign thus far is far better than what his minor league performance would indicate (it is) so we'd better trade him too. At some point, you have to make a bet on certain players and JT seems to be the one non-rookie on the roster that it makes sense to make a long term bet on.

Who is "they"? Yelich, Realmuto, Ozuna, Bour - they weren't even on the team at the beginning of your four year stretch. Again, I understand the point about pitching - the pitching sucked and that justified the teardown. But, the argument that the same players had been "perennial losers" doesn't fly.

I get tired of the "perennial losing team" nonsense that is straight out of the Jeter PR playbook. You act as if the core group had been together for many years. You had players just coming into their prime (Yelich, Realmuto, Bour) and others who had only been at that level a year or two (Ozuna, even Stanton). They were blossoming into one of the best offensive units in the national league. Pitching was always the problem and deciding that a rebuild was necessary because of it can be defended as logical. But the argument that the core group had been losing for years is totally disingenuous.

Yesterday in the first inning our hitters were treating the Padres starter like a rec league pitcher and Brinson comes up to the plate and pops the ball straight up. He is lost at the plate and that's got to be affecting him mentally. Plus, you've got guys who are simply better hitters right now than him (Dietrich, Maybin) getting days off while Brinson plays every day. Without looking it up, I would wager that Brinson has had more starts this season than anyone. They are doing a disservice to him and his future to keep him up.

Wow. I've seen you state time and again that you don't care about winning/losing this year. Now you're taking the position that losing is actually good for the team. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'd prefer that we win. And if we can't win, I'd prefer that we lose in a fashion that is not an absolute disaster and embarrassment.

It's too early to call him a bust. On the other hand, a major league player simply can't go through a season playing every day and batting .170. I don't care if the team is rebuilding or not. He either has to start hitting or be sent down.
