Al leiter
Al wasn't bad but you can't call it a good outing when you make the mistake he did. Walking two speed pitchers, ignoring them on the basepaths and throwing one right down the middle to one of the hottest players in baseball at the moment.

June 24 / Marlins against Devil Dogs / 7:15 PM
Enc complains that he should start because he bats the highest with RISP and he can't even deliver a sac fly off a mediocre pitcher who's struggling early!

Well, lets keep it up tomorrow... Will Al repeat?
So far he's only thrown 30 pitches in two innings. Whoa, keep this up and he could go 7!!!

Basketball trade rumors....
As a knicks fan I'm very unsure about this trade, Marbury is good and needs someone to give the ball to. But they already have Crawford and Houston at SG. They need more domination inside as it is. I can only see this trade working two ways. 1. This isolates Houston, sittting on the bench all year might get him too reduce is contact so we can trade him out of town. 2. They start Houston or Richardson at SF and go with a small lineup with Tim Thomas playing PF. But to make this work they'd need to draft a giant at centre. And of course this is presuming one of the two shooters can play SF and that TT can play point. Although I do like the possibility about an extra draft pick.

The D-Train is good but still not the ace thread
You're wrong by saying a ace is changed when the playoffs begin rferry. It happens after the all star break, the best pitcher starts the first game back to make sure they get the most starts.

D-Train talk on PTI
Think D-TRAIN! deserves the all star place. Sure Clemens has a higher ERA but another reason why Willis wins so many is he plays gold glove callibur defence and is currently hitting .260 sumthin. Also he runs the base paths with authority and always slides head first. D train brings so much excitment to any game and that's something the stats don't show. Anyway, if Clemens is announced starter I wouldn't argue too much. For what he has accomplished over the years and continues to accomplish he would make a fine starter in what should be his final season.

There's a CFer out there
Been looking at Sanchez stats and I'm not convinced. Even though his career average is around .300 his own base percentage is only .30 points higher than his average, Pierre's is .50 (for their careers). In SB percentage Pierre's (Stole 226 in 311 attempts, 73%) is better than Sanchez (Caught 120 in 176, 68%). Sanchez strikes out a lot more than JPs. (25 K's this year in 140 plate appearences) compared to JPs (18 K's in 272 plate appearances). And don't give me this crap about K's are just another out, when you put the ball in play you can make things happen and you can force more errors and opportunites. And you all call out for small ball, well you can move a runner over with a strikeout can you. Not unless you swing so hard the bat comes flying out the hand hits the second baseman while he's trying to tag out a runner. Also, something that has stopped JP being the complete leadoff man is that he has no power. Well Sanchez is even worse, JP leads him 8 to 6 in career HRs. Both have 6 year careers and while Pierre has been a consistent starter, 4 times (soon to be 5) playing over 150 games. Sanchez has only twice played in over 100 (112 being his highest). How about defense, Sanchez has a worse arm than Pierre so I'm told and a poorer fielder (.974 to JPs .988). And if you consider these stats pretty much the same or even irrelevant consider this: JP has symbolized the energy for this team the last two years, he is a great team mate and he works the most to realise his potential. He helped this team win a WORLD SERIES and is respected by most analysts, experts and columnists as a great ballplayer. Alex Sanchez is a steroid user who started the season batting ninth for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The defence rests

lets settle this once and for all!!!!
Marlins are a good defensive team, Willy ain't that good at defense from what I'm hearing. Plus i'd say Lo Duca is doing a decent job at catcher right now. He's a potential .300 hitter in a good year and has most of the staff ERA pretty low. As for playing in the outfield, Pro Player or Dolphins stadium or whatever has a big outfield (as you may have noticed and cannot take a chance with a poor defensive player). Rite now he's still in the minors until he gets better defensive skills or until Lo Duca exits.

what scares me about trading pierre
I'm a rookie compared to the rest of the you lot (2 and a half seasons) but it seems clear to me that pitchers have made an adjustment when pitching to pierre. He is getting a lot of pitches on the inside which takes away his ability to slap the ball to opposite field or hit slow grounders to 3B or SS which he can beat out. All Pierre has to do is to work out an adjustment to use this to his advantage. Remember Derrick Lee? Never hit 300., never batted in 100 RBI's and the most homers he has hit in a season is 32. Then he makes an adjustment where he can put inside pitches into play on a consistent basis and look at him, he's got a good chance of winning the TRIPLE CROWN. Bottom line is, JP is a premier leadoff man and a fantastic teamate. Nobody works harder in sports and he'll get through this, just give the man sometime.

When did you become a Marlins fan?
Being from Scotland I didn't watch any baseball! Then one school holiday late at night i flicked over and the world series was on. Being a big fan of football and basketball i gave it a chance. It was game 3 in Florida and i loved every minute of it. I was desperate for Florida to win the series as I hated the Yankees (reminded me too much of Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers/Celtic). I watched the Marlins triumph in the next three games and was delighted to see them win the series. When the next season started i was hooked and seen the hightlights of nearly every game on baseball tonight. Gutted at missing playoffs, thought we where gonna do it when we won 10 in a row.

Somebody tell me the record!
I was wondering the best ever record for an Expansion team in it's 1st season and who was the quickest team to win world series after expansion but i couldn't find it anywhere on the net, can somebody tell me the answer?

Off Season
I know everybody has high hopes but after watching that C**P I have decided this isn't our year. However it is my opinion that we do have a good ball club capable of winning and winning big next year but how many of or star players are out of contract and can we realisticly keep all of them?
-
Here's a Thought!
We play great against the good teams but dreadful against teams we should beat one handed. So if we ever do make it to the playoffs (not bloody likely) we should win every game. That was all in good humour, this isn't... WHAT THE F*** was that? None of their pitchers tonight had an ERA under 5!!!! Lowell, our most clutch hitter all season hits into a double play when the tying run (Lo Duca, what a player, will he be here beyond next year?) is on 1st. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! This team drives me nuts! Sod it, it is 5.10 IN THE MORNING and I have just spent 3 hours 'watching' that disaster on MLB Gameday and I'm off to bed. Also, comisorations to Dontrelle, NO WAY does he deserve that loss.
-
Where is Mando?
Yeah, I'm off to bed. I'll get no sleep what so ever now despite it being 4 in the morning here. I'm actually gonna pray that our owner isn't a complete arse and that Mando is still a Marlin!
-
Where is Mando?
Yeah, and it was Manzanillo and Perisho that where the other two warming up at the top of the 8th!
-
Realism
This is not a championship calibur baseball team! HOWEVER, this is by far the easiest division to win in baseball so we are still in the race. The next week will decide how much of a chance we really have. Getting swept by the Expos was just down right embarassing especially considering earlier in the year we could have beaten them with our eyes closed. If we take nothing less than 3 from 4 against the Phillies then we are done and should concentrate on keeping Pavs and making a very serious pennant run next year. Also, memo to Loria, GET A BAT!

Stealing Bases
That JP had a stolen base last night but the base he stole was 3rd, a lot of the time a player attempts to steal 3rd without being given any sign by a manager and i suspect this was the case here. McKeon just seems to be too conservative with the base running. Sure, we have lost three guys (Encar..., Pudge, Lee) who could steal bases but that doesn't mean we stop it entirely, especially with JP and Luis, two of the fastest players in the league.

Make your BOLD predictions here
OK, you are all clearly jinxing our baseball team so I'll rectify it with some good ol' cynical predictions! 1) We won't win the division or Wildcard, miss the playoffs and finish 3rd behind the Phillies and Mets. 2) Manzillio will falter, as will the rest of our bullpen bar Benitez. 3) Pavano and only 1 other starter will have a record over .500 4) McKeon will continue to forget what won us a world series last year and JP, Luis will only have 10 SB combined the rest of the year. I go on holiday for two weeks to Greece on Friday, I hope this post will jinx all Marlin opponents and I return to hear about a 10-12 game win streak and see us 3 games ahead in the division. Not Bloody Likely!
