How the moving of the Expos saved Can. baseball
Cape, If you think Montrealers are gonna ''embrace'' Toronto based teams like the Raptors and Jays, you really need to come up here. Montrealers HATE Toronto and their teams like the plague and I guarantee you that the Jays/sportsnet will barely notice the difference in ratings with Montreal out of MLB.

DC Baseball Trade
Are you guys serious? maybe you are pissed Guillen ain't going to FLA but the Washington club will still be pretty awful, especially with Robinson managing. They haven't improved all that much. Juan Rivera in the last 2 months of 04 was basically Jose Guillen at 300 K. Check his stats in the 2nd half of last year: .358 AVG .418 OBP .943 OPS 7 home runs In 215 at-bats Those stats scream 05 breakout year. Plus he has an absolute cannon in the outfield and can play CF. This guy at 300 K or Guillen at 3.5 million ? and Bowden threw in a decent MI prospect in Izturis... Bowden overpayed for an awful player like Guzman, goes for Castilla instead of Batista at twice the price (not too mention giving Castilla 2 years) and now this move. He barely improved their team, made it a whole lot more expensive and older. Thank god I won't have to follow that pathetic franchise anymore !

Sammy Sosa
http://www.nj.com/mets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...28606305410.xml The biggest obstacle to Sammy Sosa becoming a Met is the automatic vesting of the $18 million option he holds for 2006. Actually, it is more than just an obstacle, it's a mountain-sized road block that couldn't be overcome with a moon rover and a team of clever accountants. But it probably won't be a problem. The option never has to kick in. According to a person closely involved in the situation, the Players' Association is willing to allow Sosa to get out of the option, making it far more realistic for him to be traded to the Mets or possibly another team. Sosa's contract states that if he is traded, the 2006 option vests automatically. But he has asked the union if he can get out of it because he knows he won't be traded if the option vests, and he wants to be traded, preferably to the Mets. other source: http://www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spsosa111...ports-headlines

marlins offer 4 year 32 million contract to pavano
Found this on rotoworld: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...ort=MLB&id=5945 Latest News Nov. 11, 2004 - 3:21 am et Carl Pavano's agent followed up Tuesday's conversations with the Orioles and Mariners by meeting with the Yankees, Tigers and Reds yesterday. Boston's turn might come today. The New York Post is reporting a rumor that Pavano will end up staying with the Marlins on a four-year, $32 million contract. "That's news to me." agent Scott Shapiro said.

Cleveland Targeting Benitez
Tswift 25 is correct here. Remember the 2002-03 off-season? The Braves offered Maddux arbitration thinking he would NEVER be in a situation where zero teams would offer him a contract to his liking and they thought they would get a pick or two once he signed elsewhere. What happened? Maddux never got an offer to his liking from another team, took the Braves to arbitration and collected 15 million $ in 03.

Wally Backman Named D'back's Manager
And they just canned him, to be replaced by Bob Melvin. I guess those criminal issues are the reason why...

Keeping Pavano
Definitely a ''fair'' offer by the Marlins, but it's only smart for Pavano to shop himself around the league before making a decision.

AL Gold Glove winners announced
Sox fans reaction to Jeter winning the GG over at SOSH is priceless. and for the record, I agree with one of them who said having a-rod at 3b made Jeter look a lot better defensively.

Loria and Henry...
The former owners along with Brochu shared a huge part of the blame (not keeping the 94 team together and constant firesales) but Loria did some truly idiotic/franchise destruction things when he had the whole city laying down at his feet ready to support him: - Entered a new market they did not know and never hired a LOCAL marketing director. They decide to run it the New York way, bad idea ! - Negotiate the TV contracts like a hard-ass. Result? no games on TV for the 2000 season. Simply ridiculous. Any pro team needs TV exposure, especially one with a fragile hold on it's market. - No English radio for the 2000 season. - Made some truly horrible player moves. Westbrook and Lilly for Yankee Irabu :plain giving a 3 year/9 million contract to former Yankee Graeme Lloyd. He sure loves the Yankees. Those idiotic moves ate payroll and when the team really needed help after a rash of pitching injuries in 00(Expos were in contention in early June), they couldn't trade for anyone. - Decided to pull the plug on a stadium deal that was according to some ''that'' close to happening. Loria did not ''ruin'' the franchise, he just destroyed any hope of a potential re-birth.

Congrats to the Cards. No doubt the NL's best team this year. They fully deserve it. Should be an awesome WS. good run by 'stros. I have no doubt they would be moving on with Pettitte and Miller healthy...if they can sign Beltran they will be back IMO.

Will Lowell be history in a couple of weeks?
Teams that can spend and need 3B's: - Dodgers if Beltre can't be re-signed - Baltimore could move Mora back to the OF to make room for a Lowell - Tigers could use a 3B - Angels could go after a Lowell if they don't re-sign Glaus and think McPherson is more of a DH - Seattle has $ and needs one
