He's also a couple years away from FA while Wilson is one after the year The Nats have 2 starters (Armas and Patterson) who are serious injury risks. They lose one and they are forced to start Sunny Kim instead of Day. They lose both and...well, I can't even think of another potential starter. Ohka is gone. Rauch is injured. Hinckley has regressed.

Good move by the Cubs. Patterson was just clueless up there recently. His plate discipline is absolutely awful and going to the minors to work on that is the right play.

Guillen has a cannon, he would have gunned Erstad at home by plenty with an accurate throw. Erstad was not even at 3rd by the time the ball came to Guillen.

Don't forget that Bowden traded DMITRI YOUNG for Encarnacion a few years back. Bowden LIVES to acquire 5 tool OF's. He's acquired Guillen, Byrd, Escobar, Davis and Hammonds since arriving in DC. Day is a solid pitcher who has just been f*cked over by Robinson and some flukish injuries. I think he would do very well for the Fish. He'd be a great #4-#5 starter behind your big 3.

Matt Herges blows. Believe me, I've witnessed his suckiness first hand. With the bunch of righties who only go 1-2 innings you guys already have (Jones, Mota, Alf, Mecir, eventually Spooney) you don't need him.
