  1. Unfortunately, you need to brace yourself to see quite a bit more of these kind of meltdowns this season. Let's be honest, who does Girardi have to send out there to snuff out late inning opportunities? Nobody. Clearly not Herges and he shouldn't extend relivers when other guys are well rested.
  2. Just spending chump change on a decent pen would have us sitting at .500 or above Just using the pen correctly would have at around .500 who should he have put in? I would have never put Herges after Vargas(would have put Johnson or Nolasco) but after Herges got out of the 7th, Johnson clearly should have started the 8th. what ever happened to german the big benitez looking dood...and we sure seem to strike out alot as a whole team...can any one get the actual number of team strikeouts...we need Hermmida back ASAP...and any word on Carlos Martinez I can't wait for Carlos, he could easily be our two inning guy reminds me alot of K-Rod Yea lets ruin his arm by throwing him out there everyday for 2 innings.
  3. Just spending chump change on a decent pen would have us sitting at .500 or above Just using the pen correctly would have at around .500 :thumbup
  4. Girardi use of the bullpen is sicking. When Carlos Martinez was healthy(thanks Joe :thumbdown ) he would over work him. Johnson doesn't get enough work and when he does its to pitch 2-3 inning and come in with 2 people on and nobody on base? Ricky Nolasco another Girardi victim doesn't get enough work, and like Johnson when he does its to pitch 2-3 ining. Matt Herges- gets way to much work. He should be either the mop up man/released Joe Borowski- to early to tell but if it where up to me he wouldn't be the closer Franklyn German- is going to be Girardi next victim Todd Wellemeyer- has poor control, no future with this team, should be nothing more than the best mop up man on this team Randy Messenger- has only pitch one inning German has been great! WHERE IS HE WHEN WERE IN A SPOT??!?! He threw 2 innings yesterday unfortunately. Another one of Girardi's tendencies that are bugging me. Can't use a reliever the next day sometimes when he's gone 2 innings. Girardi has no clue
  5. I seriously don't know how anybody can blame that loss on anybody other than Girardi. The bullpen is not the problem Girardi is.
  6. I too agree with pretty much everything he said and what you said Shamrock. Cody Ross > Joe Borchard who is about = Reed. They are not worth anything more than the mysterious PTBNL or cash.
  7. Blake is not much of a prospect because like Shamrock said he is 25 and in low-A ball. This is what BA had to say about him Blake Jones rhp Northwestern State U. LA RHP/DH Blake Jones, the Southland Conference player of the year, ended the regular season ranked second in the league in both batting (.363) and saves (eight). Scouts like him more as a pitcher because of his size (6-foot-5, 220 pounds), 90-92 mph fastball and his curveball.
  8. I am hoping and would like to see the following rotation/bullpen for the start of the 2007 season Rotation Dontrelle Willis Anibal Sanchez Scott Olsen Yusmeiro Petit Renyel Pinto - this one is a shocker but Pinto has better stuff than Johnson/Vargas and just as good if not better stuff than Olsen. Now the big "IF" is control, if he doesn't improve then Johnson/Vargas takes his spot in the rotation Bullpen Carlos Martinez- closer if healthy Josh Johnson- set-up Jason Vargas- lefty set-up Chris Resop Franklyn German Taylor Tankersley Ricky Nolasco -In the case that Renyel Pinto still can't throw strikes by then Jason Vargas/Josh Johnson take his spot in the rotation and to the bullpen goes one of Logan Kensing/Harvey Garcia/Jesus Delgado/Jose Garcia/Sergio Mitre
  9. Rotoworld Sometime within the last several weeks, the Marlins offered Dontrelle Willis to the Mets for David Wright, according to Newsday. That wasn't going to work. Willis for Jose Reyes would have been more realistic, though the Marlins now have Hanley Ramirez and the Mets probably would have turned it down anyway. As inexpensive as he is right now, Wright might be the game's most valuable property. Albert Pujols is the only obviously better bet for the next five years, and he'll make $77 million during that time. Apr. 23 - 12:50 pm et
  10. Im glad so many of you like Willis but David Wright has more value than Dontrelle. If Cabrera is 1A, David Wright is 2A. It's nice of you to look at things like that, but your own post answers why it's a stupid trade. Cabrera is 1A, David Wright is 2A. Cabrera plays third base, David Wright plays third base. Cabrera plays for us already. I believe you make room for talents like Cabrera and Wright some how. Whether its moving Cabrera to RF and Hermida CF or Wright/Cabrera to 1B. I don't know what we should do but you got to be crazy to pass on Wright for Willis if the Mets agree.
  11. Im glad so many of you like Willis but David Wright has more value than Dontrelle. If Cabrera is 1A, David Wright is 2A.
  12. Hey butchy have you heard anything new about Scott Nestor and Allen Baxter? or Ronald Belisario?
  13. "They are going to move Willis, but they would likely want (Robinson) Cano and (Phil) Hughes from the Yankees," an NL talent evaluator said of the Marlins. an NL "talent evaluator"?? :lol fancy way of saying scout? Anyway, I still think the best trading partner would be the Athletics if we decide to trade him, he's a hometown boy there, and Beane would likely overpay. Barton, Kotsay, Windsor and/or Suzuki. Kotsay is to expensive/overrated, Barton is a stud, Windsor is not much of a prospect, and Suzuki is alright. The A's are not much of a much. Our best match is either the Dodgers or Angels Dodgers Chad Billingsley-must Russ Martin- must and 1-2 of the following(Matt Kemp, Joel Guzamn, Greg Miller, Jonathan Broxton, Balke DeWitt, Sott Elbert) Angels Jeff Mathis-must Howie Kendrick or Brandon Wood-must Nick Adenhart or Tommy Mendoza
  14. currently hitting .320 in AAA. Go to minor league forum
  15. I saw on Baseball America he was placed on the restricted list. But so was Ronald Belisario too!?!!? Anyone know whats up with that???? Good find on Belisario :thumbup I been trying to find info on him for awhile. I even sent Mike Berardino and email once and he said that he wasn't sure but he thought he was released by the club. Last I heard of him before this was that he was rehabbing with Lincoln Holdzkom in Jupiter. Belisario once upon a time possed the #1 FB in the entire system(95-96). Scouts projected him as a closer/set-up and compared him to a young Alfonseca, but the Marlins saw him as a starter.
  16. Jason Stokes went 3-3 today. Hit his 3rd Homerun of the season and most importantly 2 walks For those on the Jacobs bandwagon: Stokes is 2 years younger, has more power, better athlete, and better D. Now I am not ready to call him the future at 1B either because of K Rate, but if he proves that he is capable of walking atleast 50+ times a year then yes I believe he is the answer at first. IMO Stokes needs at-bats and the best thing to do is play him everyday AAA until their season is over. Then call him up in September.
  17. Just think how much pitching we'll have after the next draft :knockout Arghh. Time to look for a few position players. Have to agree there. I'd be happier with them taking a few 'reach' position players early in the draft. Next year, when we have the high pick, you take best player available...this year should be focused on need, which is clearly second, center and left. This draft is extremely weak in position prospects. BA says a guy like Jacoby Elsbury who went to the Red Sox last year around the 20-24 pick would be a top 5 pick in this year class. Ex: Evan Longoria who is a projected top 5 pick, projects as a 15-25 HR hitting 3B. IMO we should just draft the best player available on our draft board.
  18. Loss #4- 3-2 to Mets, bullpen loses game in bottom of the ninth IMO, defense(Hermida miss played ball) and not driving runs in cost us this game. Loss #8- 7-5 to Nats, Pen blows ninth inning lead IMO, Joe Girardi(trying to extend Carlos Martinez) and defense(Hanley Error) cost us this game. Loss #10- 9-8 to Reds, Pen blows lead IMO, Joe Girardi trying to get another inning out of Ricky Nolasco, then taking him out with the bases loaded 0 outs and putting Matt Herges cost us this game Carlos Martinez's elbow.... cause? Joe Girardi :whistle
  19. Joe Girardi use of the bullpen is my biggest concern. Josh Johnson- should be the current closer Franklin German- should pitch the 8th/primary set-up man for Johnson (got to find out if he has a future on this team) Joe Boe- should set things up for German/Johnson, keep games close reliver Randy Messenger- has to be given more consistent work, and tougher situations to pitch in or else send him down(we need to find out what he has) Ricky Nolasco- long relief, more than 1 inning of work (please don't use him to just retire one batter one day, and another try to squeeze 2-3 inings out of him) Todd Wellemeyer- middle relief (1-2 ining guy/better mop up than Herges) Matt Herges- warm body/mop up
  20. Relief Pitchers 1- Taylor Tankersley (0-0) 0.00 ERA (1 save) (6.2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 K) Future set up man or closer 2- Adam Bostick (0-2) 3.24 ERA (8.1 IP, 7 H, 8 BB, 8 K) Has major league stuff but control has been problem 3- Chris Resop (0-0) 0.00 ERA (1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K) Needs consistency 4- Ben Julianel (0-0) 0.71 ERA (12.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K) Sleeper of the year...should be Marlins lefty option 5- Jesus Delgado (1-0) 1.29 ERA (7 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 9 K) Lookin' good 6- Scott Tyler (0-0) 0.00 ERA (2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 3 K) Working on control 7- Chris Mobley (0-1) 3.86 ERA (2 saves) (4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K) Needs to work on a second pitch 8- Blake Jones (1-0) 1.69 ERA (5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 K) COuld get MLB hitters out now 9- Harvey Garcia (0-0) 0.00 ERA (5 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 6 K) Similar stuff to Jesus Delgado 10- Daniel Barone (2-0) 0.73 ERA (12.1 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 15 K) Could he start any better? 11- Matt Yourkin (0-1) 1.35 ERA (6.2 IP, 3 H, 5 BB, 8 K) Broke through last year 12- Nic Ungs (1-1) 3.90 ERA (12 IP, 12 H, 5 BB, 5 K) Just knows how to pitch- like Maddux with less talent 13- Logan Kensing (0-1) 6.35 ERA (5.2 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 4 K) May never get another shot with Marlins again 14- Mario Zarate (1-0) 7.94 ERA (5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K) Nasty, Nasty stuff 15- Matt Goyen (1-0) 0.90 ERA (10 IP, 6 H, 5 BB, 5 K) Was a stud in college 16- Kurt Koehler (0-0) 0.00 ERA (7 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 K) Lucky start and rhymes with Moehler 17- Kevin Cave (0-0) 0.00 ERA (1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K) Always injured but has good stuff 18- Ross Wolf (1-1) 0.00 ERA (7.1 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K) Potential is not very high 19- Adam Bradenburg (1-0) 0.00 ERA (5 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 8 K) Good start deserves mentioning 20- Trevor Hutchinson- injured list coming back soon! Pick someone. Anyone. Its more like this Ranking based on talent, potential, and likely to reach potential 1)Taylor Tankersley (AA) projects as set-up/closer (more likely set-up) IMO our bets relief prospect 2)Chris Resop (AAA) projects as closer/ set up. Fearless, bulldog on the mound should be in the major now 3)Jose Garcia(H A) projects as dominating closer/ set-up. Currently SP with + stuff but small frame and pitching depth ahead of him means he will most likely be a reliver in our organization. FB 95 mph, good slider, and good change for his age (very good control) 4)Jesus Delgado (H A) projects set-up man. 95-97 FB, developing change. 5)Harvey Garcia(H A)projects as set-up man/closer 95-98 FB, developing change (Very similar to Delgado, though he throws harder and has less of a change) 6)Jacob Marceux(H A) struggling so far as a starter. Scouts project him as closer because of his 95 mph fastball and frame. He throws 4 pitches 7)Travis Bowyer(AAA) best fastball in the sytem(can hit 100 mph) poor secondary pitches. Projects as set-up man. Closer if he can atleast develop an average change-up or curve (currently DL) 7) Logan Kenisng (AAA) projection 7 inning set up. Heavy 94 mph, with good control. When sinker is left up in strike zone is very hittable. 8)Randy Messenger (majors)- projects 7,8 inning set-up. Needs to improve control, Fastball is straight at times. FB 96 mph 9)Kurt Koehler- (H A) projects as work horse reliver. Started as a starter but things didn't work out so well. Is very similar to Kensing though Koehler might have better stuff 10)Adam Bostick(AA) currently a starter but projects more as a lefty specialist because of good curve ball. Needs to work on control big time. FB 88-93 as a starter although likely to improve as reliver 11)Scott Tyler(AA) very good stuff with poor control. Scouts question his work ethic. 94-95 mph FB, hard curve and decent change. Pitches from low three-quarters arm slot 12)Allen Baxter(H A) big time sleeper. Has the best curveball in the system to go along with a 98 mph FB. Currently on the DL. Im not sure if the Marlins are going to develop him as a starter. Needs to improve control. 13)Chris Leroux(L A) projects as a closer/set-up. Currently a start probably to just get more work in and improve control. Possess 97 mph FB and hard slider. Very raw use to catche and pitch in college 14) Scott Nestor (H A) project as a set-up man. Has a very good 95-96 mph FB but lacks the other secondary pitches. Needs to improve control. Currently on the Dl 15)Paul Mildren (AA) currently a starter but projects more a lefty specialist. Posses a 88-91 mph FB, cutter, and one of the best change-up in the organization. 16)Rafael Galbizo(L A) 94 mph FB, with hard curve. New to the scene as he came from Cuba and doesn't have much of a history. 17)Chris Mobley(AA) good slider that he can locate at will, with a 88-92 mph FB. Off to a bad start in AA after tearing up Low A last season. May be because of fringe FB and lack of a third pitch. Projects as 7inning set-up 18)Daniel Barone(L A) 90-92 mph decent FB that he locates well. Barone also throws a change-up and slider. Currently not much of a prospect yet. Very mature and not afraid to pitch inside Other Notables Matt Goyen (H A) currently a starter but scouts say because of fringe stuff he is better suited to picth out of bullpen. High 80's FB and one nasty change-up. Comparison to John Halama/Mark Redman. Projects as end of the rotation starter or Middle reliver Ryan Tucker(L A) Has a 96 mph FB that he throws little effort. Marlins want to give him every oppurtunity to become a starter but lack of control and a true 2nd pitch might not allow him to stay there. Can either be top of rotation start or closer Ben Julianel(AA) not ranked higher because he is 27 already and only in AA, with a history of control problems. If he can improve control he projects as a lefty specialist
  21. Jacobs is a really bad defender/athelete
  22. I am very worried. While I never been high on Jacobs, I never thought he will be this bad. Yes it is still early but he looks overmatched at the plate(in almost every at-bat), he is a below average defender, and a poor athelete on top of that. I see Jason Stokes or J.T Restko as a better long term option at 1B. Just my opinion but I think Jacobs should continue to get work in at catcher. After all, he played that position for over 3-4 years in the minors I believe.
  23. A guy out there who may be able is Termal Sledge. If the Padres would be willing to take some sortof of package involving guys like Tyler/Mobley/Mildren I am all for it
  24. 4- Ben Julianel (0-0) 0.71 ERA (12.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K) Sleeper of the year...should be Marlins lefty option He's almost 27 and doesn't have a great strikeout rate (he's also starting but projects as a reliever, which is I assume why you listed him as such). I wouldn't call him a sleeper. Right away, that jumped out at me. And your stats on Jose Garcia are wrong. Ben Julianel is a lefty and would be good in our pen now. He used to be one of the top prospects in baseball. Strikeout rates aren't everything especially when the Fish have plenty of big time arms. Most of the info you provided is false. Sorry and Ben Julianel was never a top propsect, much less a top prospect in baseball http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/J/ben-julianel.shtml
