I was gonna say.... dunno who they figure is out there at 3B. I mean if they were only going to get ONE good free agent this offseason I would vote for 3B, but just don't see anything out there. I'd shoot for the moon and take stabs at Hamilton and trade for Olt if he's made available. Put Hamilton in LF (Ironic) and put Ruggiano in CF. If J.R. bombs, move Hamilton over. I don't think there is a single 3B out there this offseason other then Wright (possibly). And F...i would have liked to see cishek get himself out of that jam.

I know it's not very nice, but I'm hoping Solano doesn't get another base hit this year. The fact that the front office apparently thinks he can be the starting 2B next year is absurd. He's a bench player at best. ugh have they actually said as much?? Well, not directly, but it is a rumor from multiple credible sources. mlbtraderumors said something about it recently. Basically, it seems like they want Boni back in CF, Solano at 2B, and they want a power-hitting 3B (whoever that is). Meh. Just relax with some of these numbers, guys. Why is 10/200 ridiculously stupid if you yourself are conceding you'd be ok with 22m in year 8 of an 8/105 contract? Add in year 9 and year 10. The point is that we're not that far apart in what's fair for all. I'd start with 10/160 if I was ownership and be willing to pay up to get him to sign up. 8/105 = about 13.125 mill per year. Maybe it's backloaded, fine, but if you do the same formula, you're giving him close to 30 million on years 8-10 for 10/200, which is borderline ridiculous, even if he does pan out to be as awesome as we hope. 8/105 is very reasonable. 7/85-90 is as well. Blank Check, and a guarenteed lifetime contract for his unborn daughter. Yes, Daughter. Hopefully he names her Jacqueline Robinson Cruz Stanton. Miami. Cool. International. Innovating.

I think the right negociating tactic is asking what will it take to make him a Marlin for life, and ask him for the number on a sheet of paper. Then work out the years and options towards the end, as well as milestone numbers and such. Realistically, asking him what he's interested in accepting until his year 31 season is reasonable. It gives him one last big contract after that, and offers him some security in the meantime.

Was signing Lenny Harris in 2003 a bad decision. He wasn't much but he did help win a championship on a team that wasn't supposed to compete. Atleast Lee COULD play first, albeit poorly. His bat is what you want anyway. At 37, Harris hit.305. We all can almost agree they both are/were completely round too in the gut. If Lee hits .260, I'd consider it a win if the price is right.

I guess we see there one of the main reasons that attendance has lagged off. Having an average ticket price that is the 3rd highest in baseball (admittedly with a smaller stadium) in an area that has the one of the highest poverty rates in the US is suicide. Yes there is a lot of monied people in South Fla. There also are way more who live on the edge of poverty or well into it. This area has to have one of the widest gaps in wealth to poor in the country. That is false. The city of Miami proper has a poverty rate well in excess of the national average, but the same cannot be said for South Florida. But the team hasn't been trying for South Florida. Samson outright said he would be happy if Broward and Palm Beach fans only come to 5 games a year, they are concentrating on South Dade and the biz section to fill the stadium. Paraphrasing just a bit, but almost a direct quote. That's just the tip of the iceberg how the team has been alienating the rest of South Florida away from the team. You don't crap on a large clientel base and then expect them to wipe your butt afterwards. Marlins Park......Otherwise known as Loria's Titanic. I'd keep him, I've said it before I'd split Lomo between LF and 1B. Lee has been steadily consistent as a Marlin, and to be honest we don't have enough of those types of hitters. If his price is right, resign him to a deal without a No-Trade Clause and move him mid-season if it comes down to it. Although, I see Lee going back to Houston next year as a DH cheap. How? By the way, it's worth mentioning that Carlos Lee's .OPS as a Marlin is only .713, despite it seeming to be a whole lot better than that. About the only way I see it is having them platoon Lee and Morrison Lefty/Righty somewhat and have Morrison get some days in LF when one of the OF guys needs rest. It depends if Ruggiano is the LF next year, and you can give Ruggs or the CF the day off by moving them around and sliding Morrison in there. Ex: Ruggs is LF, on day Morrison starts, Ruggs is CF or day off. He really hasn't earned the right to be given the first base job, his performance in two different platoons would earn him that. If he performs well, move Lee at the deadline. If he underwelms, demote him for the year like Coughlan or move him like Sanchez.
