Nick Johnson for Aaron Thompson, Nats sending $1.8mil done deal

Olney: Marlins pushing for Heath Bell
It would be completely retarded to trade Andrew Miller for a RP. No way. Miller's potential has fallen considerably over the last month. How? Because he's not pitching lights out? Give him time, and he'll figure it out. I like Miller, but his drop in velocity certainly hasn't helped his potential status as a #1-2

Nyjer Morgan
Pittsburgh shipped this centerfielder over to Washington for an outfielder (Milledge) who has pretty much proven that he's not going to make it in the majors. Morgan is proving to be what the Marlins dreamed of having in Maybin. Why didn't the Marlins grab that fellow? Hermida may have been acceptable payment. (Remember Milledge? He was the Washington centerfielder that played two fairly routine flyball outs by Bonifacio into an inside the part homer and triple during the first couple games of the season). Lastings Millege is all of 24 years old. The patience of people these days is astounding Morgan and Maybin are not comparable at all

Rosenthal: Marlins after Nick Johnson
With the way Fredi works his lineup, Nick Johnson would probably bat 5th or 6th. He already had a solid 2 hole hitter in John Baker and decided to send him to the 8 hole. Also, what's up with Johnson's lack of power? Kind of scary, even though his OBP is outstanding.

Hammer with 2 Grand Slams So Far Tonight!
If he qualified, Willingham would have the 5th best OPS in baseball Think the Marlins could offer back Emilio Bonifacio and still get him?

July 31st Trade Deadline
What Pittsburgh does about it is certainly not a lock. That team, especially with all the turmoil they've undergone internally may opt to get out from under the totality of that obligation and figure that since he is by every description damaged goods eating $3+/- million and getting a John Raynor (please don't fixate on the name, let me rephrase, a good projectible prospect) in return represents less risk and the potential for a higher reward than a guy who tells the media (paraphrasing) "I'm not interested in pitching for them again". If Ian Snell weren't Ian Snell and he was of sound mind and body your scenario might play out, but he's not, or at least there's no conclusive evidence, so the risk in any transaction has to fall predominantly on the Bucs. I realize you said not to fixate on the name John Raynor, but in no world is John Raynor a good projectable prospect. That and do the Marlins really need a headcase?

Kensing DFA'd
Kensing has been traded to the Nats for right hander Kyle Gunderson (saw it on another site)

Badenhop or Penn?
Penn has now been ruled out (thus ruling Meyer out too) The Marlins have few options for a spot starter, but manager Fredi Gonzalez said that whoever the pitcher is probably will make two or three starts until Miller returns. Gonzalez all but ruled out Hayden Penn because Penn ``hasn't gone more then four innings since spring training.'

Miller placed on 15 day DL
Considering Miller was barely hitting 90 the past two outings, it was clear he was hurting (or it's his delivery) but something was wrong

Key date for Bonifacio ..
Gaby is doing kinda well in AAA too. Hitting .348 But he also only has two XBH (2b and a HR) and only 2 walks to 9 Ks. .348/.367/.435/.802 So his OBP and SLG are completely BA dependent at the moment. Ofcoarse we're only talking about an 11 game sample size and that should right itself over a longer period of time. Also I love that (atleast it looked like) Boni had a red light on a 3-1 count haha. Nny you forgot to mention he has 9 RBI to lead the team ,hitting 3rd & 4th on the team and a 10 game hitting streak RBI are a meaningless stat, especially in the minor leagues so no, he did not forget to mention them

Behind the rise of Emilio Bonifacio
0 for his last 11 with 8 strikeouts EB needs a bloop to fall in in the worst way right now

Odd Man Out
Pretty much the entire Marlins' pen is out of options (Lindstrom and Nunez might be the only ones who could be sent down)

25 WILD MARLIN PROSPECTS
19- MIGUEL FERMIN ?, 24, A JUP .273, 0 HR, 0 RBI - 1 BB/ 3 K He hit .347 with 17 HR, and 47 RBI in Greensboro last season but he's 24 and needs to improve his strikeout judgement. Still, there's something to be said about his skills. 24- PAUL GRAN (3B/UTIL), 23, A GREEN .400, 0 HR, 2 RBI Gran has hit at every level and was an excellent college hitter. He could become a utility player if everything breaks right. He's 5'11 and 182 lbs. Fermin put up those numbers in Jamestown, not Greensboro Gran has it at one level, Jamestown. Not every level.
