July 29, 200916 yr Well you can say that I was in the right place at the right time. Strolling down past Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon I happen to stop into a nice little cafe and sat down to have a coffee. The person sitting behind me gets a phone call. When he picks it up, he says "Hi Michael how you doing?" What happens next in this conversation I wrote on a piece of napkin. I was led to believe that the "Michael" is no one other than Florida Marlins GM Michael Hill, and the man sitting behind me is no one other than New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman. The conversation was about a possible trade that the Yankees might be pulling off within the next 24 hrs. The trade involved the Yankees sendng Colin Curtis and Anthony Claggett to the Marlins for outfielder Cody Ross. Anthony Claggett has been very good in the minors, posting a 2.95 era in 30 appearances. Collin Curtis has 12 home runs, 70 RBI's and 60 walks in AA and AAA combined this year. Also has stolen 14 bags while being caught once. Cody Ross has 14 HR's and 53 RBI's with the Marlins thus far. Ross is an excellent defender and has some pop. If you see this trade go down dont forget where you heard it first. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/225474-trade-deadline-news-yankees-breaking-news Discuss.
July 29, 200916 yr I do not know anything about those minor leaguers but if they are major league ready and can perform in the majors the way their minor league numbers are, I am all for it.
July 29, 200916 yr I don't know why the Yankees would want Cody. Is he really an upgrade over anything they have?
July 29, 200916 yr Author The only way it would make the least bit of sense is if it was precursor to something else....you don't trade your 2nd best offensive player for minor leaguers and continue to tell yourself your still in it. If this does go down, something else will follow it... Although.....
July 29, 200916 yr its not confirmed that its happening. it could very well just be the yankees trying to see if we would accept that offer. I don't think we are actively trying to trade Ross. I know it says that Michael Hill called him but you never know if he had left a message for Hill to call him back or something.
July 29, 200916 yr This better not happen, considering I hate the Yankees with every fiber of my being and Cody is one of my favorite Marlins!
July 29, 200916 yr Colin Curtis is a mediocre prospect who has done mediocre stuff in the minors thus far. You can see a trend from his numbers, so we know what we should get from him if he ever reaches the majors, which at this point isn't much. Claggett is an ok middle reliever, probably will make it to the majors at some point in the future, but it will be as a middle reliever, which never hurts, but those two prospects do not equal what Cody Ross can give us the rest of this season. EDIT: Thank you PWG for showing me how that was bleacherreport saying this, totally didn't realize this at first. Yeah, I'll wait until a little more reliable source comes out, thank you.
July 29, 200916 yr lol bleacherreport... I'll sign into my account and start throwing around mlb trade rumors...
July 29, 200916 yr Since when does Mike Hill have any say in what is going on with the Marlins? We all know it's still all Beinfest, all the time
July 29, 200916 yr Since when does Mike Hill have any say in what is going on with the Marlins? We all know it's still all Beinfest, all the time I'm sure he has some say in what goes on.
July 29, 200916 yr yeah not happening. The other night I was at Denny's having a Moon Over My Hammy at 2:30 in the morning when I went into the men's room. In the stall next to mine I heard this guy on his cellphone say "hey what's up Brett? You coming down here later?" What happened next I wrote on a piece of toilet paper. I can only assume this man was Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland, and he was talking to Brett Favre. Favre will be the Dolphins starting QB this season. You heard it here first.
July 29, 200916 yr I wish I could have an experience like that in my lifetime... Hope it doesn't happen, but if the story's true that's pretty sweet.
July 29, 200916 yr i think yankee deal not going make sure better only way i see marlins doing deal if we gave up season but with us been 2 game out playoff we should make team better that not right deal

July 29, 200916 yr i have a friend who works in the marlins organization who just texted me "one of our guys might be traded to the yankees in the next hour" and then i saw this thread... don't shoot the messenger. if true - i will not be a happy camper....
July 29, 200916 yr If this was true...I'm sure mlbtraderumors would have something by now. I'm not buying it.
July 29, 200916 yr I just talked to my cousin who said that she heard from Bo Porter's sister, that the Marlins are open to trading for the right player if the price is right.
July 29, 200916 yr I just heard from a friend of mine who knows a guy who knows the guy who sells beer at the stadium while wearing a giant green elephant thing hat that he heard from one of the janitors who was picking up Beinfest's trash that the Marlins are thinking of trading Uggla and Hermida to the Yankees for naked pictures of Mariah Carey that Jeter took when he was dating her.
