I think Gaby let up more than a little. He just hooked Morgan's head with his arm. If he wanted to he could have gone in and thrown a haymaker . We'd have a whole different national story today if he goes in leading with a fist rather than an arm. Gaby Sanchez is the man. I've never seen a 1st baseman get to a brawl first. Usually it's the catcher.

I actually think that's pretty cool. Halladay will have a gaggle of awards/items to show off when he moves beyond the game of baseball. Most catchers like Ruiz won't. Nicely done on Halladay's part.

Good luck, Cody. One of the most enjoyabe players I've seen come through here, and I know I'm not alone on that statement. Definitely pulling for the Giants the rest of the season.

Keep in mind he's been hitting low in the lineup with little protection as well. It's still early. Pitchers will adjust to him, but I have no doubt he'll adjust back as well. You don't make it to the majors at his age on power alone - he's done a great job learning the other things to level-up through the system - and now the lineup. Everyone makes the Reynolds comparison because of the Power and K's, but Reynolds came out and publicly stated that he's not going to change his game to cut down on his strikeouts. In the last year he's gone from a .250/.260 hitter to hitting .220 this year. He should probably revisit the strikeout approach. I don't see Stanton sharing that attitude. He wants to put the ball in play. I'll let you numbers guys handle the serious projection work, but as we head into the new ballpark I think .260/35R's is realistic. I think his RBI numbers will be off the charts with guys like Hanley/Morrison/Coghlan getting on in front of him.

Maybin showing some pop I went to the Zephyr's game on Sunday night here in Salt Lake - and the homer that Maybin hit was possibly the farthest I've ever seen in person. It was an absolute bomb. It's 345 down the left field line at the park here - he hit it over the left field wall - over the spectator hill - it landed on the pedestrian walkway and bounced out of sight. it probably wound up on Main Street or in the back of the fire station. Been to more than a few games and have never seen anyone clear the hill like that. I would estimate it went about 420' - dead pull. He would have put it in the 2nd-deck at Sun Life. Ryan Howard flew to Florida with the team - but just flew back to Philadelphia today for more tests on an injured ankle. Don't think he'll see much if any action in this series.

Anibal was a monster. Hopefully the back end of the rotation is taking notes and feeling equal to the task in the days ahead. I'm really liking the current lineup. I'll take the split against the hottest team in baseball.

Sucks that Haren won't be able to get 2 or 3 at bats per start. He's a monster with the stick. Even in the AL, he'll get a few pitch hit appearances I'd imagine.

PTBNL should be LHP Tyler Skaggs whom the D'backs were high on in last years draft. I can't imagine the D'backs were that high on Joe Saunders. He's a flyball pitcher and is going to get lit up in that ballpark in Phoenix. 2 more years of arbitration - cheaper than Haren .. smells like salary dump with D'backs counting on the 2 low-minors prospects to become middle of the rotation guys in 3 years.

I'm glad that Mr. Volstad was able to work out all of his problems in New Orleans over the last week.

Living out here I get the pleasure (or should I say - displeasure) of watching these guys broadcast games all year when i'm not watching the Marlins. They are widely regarded as a horrific tandem. Don't know if you were able to see any of the pre or post game segments with Tracy Ringolsby (the guy with the cowboy hat), but he takes it to another level of insufferable. The Rockies announcers should know a thing or two about empty as they've had practice. Their field is regularly filled with people dressed as empty seats - even on the weekends. For the record, I hate bashing people who work on TV. It's easy to be critical when you're not the one in front of the camera. But the Rockies duo needs to start thinking through some of their comments.

Living in the Mountain Time Zone I get to see quite a bit of the Rockies. They desperately need a right-handed bat. I've never seen a team so lefty heavy. I would imagine Uggla would cost them a young pitcher like Jhoulys Chacin, and a bullpen piece like lefty Franklin Morales or a Manuel Corpas. The Rockies do a pretty good job of not rushing their young talent so I'd imagine the AA/AAA teams have a lot of position players to pick from. I'm assuming under such a scenario CC moves to the infield? Does Ross then move to left and Maybin gets everyday at-bats in center again?

The day has finally arrived. Our boy Stanton will make his debut going 4-6 with 4 grand slams and 2 Ks. Even more amazing, Mike Stanton will get on base ahead of himself , be awarded ghost runners, and drive Mike Stanton in during all 4 grand slams. Later, Bud Selig will not reverse the Phillies in-game protest of ghost runners being allowed.

I completely agree. While I think most of the credit for this team overachieving with an underwhelming payroll should go to Beinfest, Fredi deserves a large pat on the back for what he has been able to do as well. I cringe when people call for his head. Who do you bring in that will guarantee the results we've seen the last 2 years?? The guy made a patchwork bullpen work. He was able to keep the Marlins in the playoff hunt all year with 1, count it again, 1 consistent starter in the rotation the entire season. I don't think a Chris Coghlan flourishes at the top of the lineup with an impatient knee-jerk manager at the helm...remember, he was hitting .250 the first few months he was up. Fredi easily could have buried him in the 7/8 spot in the lineup and hampered his development. We as Marlin fans have suffered a lot through watching our marquee players leave and the payrolls around us balloon. But when it comes down to it, we are a spoiled bunch. We have 2 titles in the last 12 years. The Cubs will enter play next year almost 102 years since their last. We have as many or more rings than every other National League team since 1982 (Cardinals). Enjoy that fact, and root against the Cardinals over the next month to keep that a reality.

So i've been watching the Nationals feed for the last few games, and they compare Coghlan to Todd Helton in the way he works the count, and the way he stays back on the ball and hits it back up the middle. I thought it was a great comparison seeing as I get to watch a lot of Helton living in Rockies country. The Nationals announcers aren't shy about their man crush on him. Chris Coghlan. It's spreading.

I'm not sold on the Coghlan/Peterson comparison. Two pretty different players in their own right. Ya'll probably made that comparison simply because they both are currently playing LF and Peterson is having a year in AA similar to that of Coghlan in the majors. Dim, hear me out...don't let my post count speak for how closely I follow the Marlins minor leaguers...but I understand that to expect anyone to come up and do what Cogs has done at the MLB level is assinine. Obviously the left field comparison and the fact that they both bat lefty, they both bat leadoff makes them comparable, but their stat progression is EERILY similar. In A ball, and so far in AA. In a full year at AA, age 23, Coghlan hit .298, 7HR's, had an OPS of .825, and struck out 65 times. Now get this... In a full year at AA (there is only a week left), Petersen, age 23, has hit .303, 7HR's, has an OPS of .801, and has struck out..you guessed it...65 times. Granted, Petersen has done this in fewer AB's. You could argue he has more power than Cogs, and will strike out a few more times, but I think it's a valid comparison. I don't think you could find many players on the other 29 teams in baseball that are as similar to Bryan Petersen than is Chris Coghlan. They were also both drafted out of college programs and are the same size. This is why I'm buying the Coghlan/Petersen comparison. Not based on similar seasons this year.

Petersen is going to be a good one. His game closely resembles that of Chris Coghlan's.

Is Cameron hurt?? Or was this just a regular day off?? I think it was a regular day off. The Zephyr's are carrying 6 outfielders, 4 of whom are on the Marlins 40-man roster, so I think it may have been his turn to sit.

In the week that I've been handling the Farm Report, this is the absolute worst showing. Stanton's average has dropped below .240. I think these guys are ready for the minor league regular season to end here next week.
