Dan Uggla - 2010 Performance Discussion
He gets a B IMO (B+ to be specific). Defense is still a work in progress. It cannot be ignored for a valuable position. His defense was never a problem this season, he turns the DP with the best of them Uggla's defense has always been a problem. Even in the DPR department, Uggla's rating on fangraphs is a -1.3. He has a negative rating on all the sections that constitute UZR, and that's been happening since he came into the league. It's clear he's a butcher defensively, and has a reputation for that around the league. His 3 errors at the all-star game doesn't help his cause neither. But then again, this whole Marlins team (w/ the exception of Stanton and maybe LoMo at 1B and to a lesser extent, Maybin) stinks defensively. Hopefully Dominguez can be called up in time and LoMo be switched to 1B to at least help the infield.

Admin Beinfest: "Let's face it, Dominguez is coming"
Well Morrison isnt as important as Stanton, but wed need to some incredible deal to trade him. Morrison isnt untouchable, but hes pretty close to it. I for one was pretty worn out from the Ross, Young Uggla, Jacobs, Helms and Cantu era of not thinking in the batters box and swinging away. Morrison is the most intelligent hitter on the team and he gets on base A TON. We need guys like him and Coghlan in the lineup. Gaby to me is similar to a guy like Cantu and tends to be very aggressive up there. Not that I dont like that but given hes a liability defensively and older Id rather see him go. We arent gonna trade Morrison or Stanton. And i think itd be kind of foolish to get rid of coghlan. That means if anything Gaby is the odd man out. Unless ur looking for a lineup perspective in which case we need Gaby's RBIs. But even still, its too early to call up Dominguez. He might be ready soon, but as good as he may be at 3rd it doesnt take away from Uggla's struggling at second (which in my mind is our biggest defensive problem.) This why I would say Morrison is very important for the Marlins...He is a left-handed hitter who hits lefties as well as righties. Those types of hitters in a lineup are pure gold. There are as rare as pure power hitters like Stanton in baseball. I would consider him every bit as untouchable as Stanton for that reason alone You have to be kidding. Stanton could be two notches above Morrison right now. Morrison is a really good hitter, but he doesn't hit for power and naturally, will play a less demanding position at 1B. I know he gets on-base alot and that is kinda rare in this league, but his value at 1B would only be average. Stanton OBP isn't nearly as good, but the dude is still 20 years old. He will improve as time goes. One of Logan knocks though is that he doesn't have good baserunning skills, and has poor speed. Stanton has very good speed (though he doesn't utilize it much) and defense...Logan is good at his natural positon, but Stanton is a FREAK defensively. 8th in the league in defensive WAR (keep in mind he only played in about 98 games) and is 3rd among RFs in UZR/150, higher than Heywards. All in all. it's not close. Stanton has generational talent potential. Bonds, Griffey, AROD, Pujols-type. Even better than our once beloved Miguelito.

I think what's lost in his 2 HRs, he also threw someone out at 3rd. His Arm rating in fangraphs should boost his UZR up, since he had only 1 assist last time UZR was updated 16 G ago. He compiled 4 more assists since then, and had like 3 in 5 games at one point. He would be on pace for 15 assists in a full season. Sick. Everyone talks about his hitting, but his defense is just as good.

Ugggh, I was referring to best power, but whatever. I'm done with you. If you've been watching baseball for 6 decades, you should be at least 60. Grow the f*** up. ROOKIE SEASONS AROD: 146 G | .414 OBP | .273 IsoP | 5.0 Speed | 8.0 UZR | 9.8 WAR STANTON: 54 G | .345 OBP | .301 IsoP | 5.1 Speed | 3.7 UZR (38 G) | 2.1 WAR AROD had a better overall season but Stanton has displayed more power at that age. The only player in MLB history that has statistically shown to have more power than Stanton at 20 was Mel Ott (.306 IsoP). I can see Stanton surpassing that by the season's end. AROD and Stanton have also shown to be elite defenders at that age, but AROD position at SS was more demanding. Let's not forget though, that AROD did play in the steroid era, whie Stanton plays in a league where you have many good pitchers.

Albert Pujols on Hanley Ramirez
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols said Florida Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez has the talent to be the best player in the game on a radio show this week, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. "When it's all said and done, he has the talent to be the best… to ever play this game because of the ability that he has. That he doesn't even know yet. He's just a young, talented guy who plays the game," Pujols said. "The thing I always try to remember is no matter how much money that you make, always respect the game. Play the game the right way, and just never change. Be the same kid. You can't let this game change you." Thought it might be interesting to read. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder also said the same thing a whil back. I just hope Hanley's ego doesn't explode.

6/17/2010 (Marlins (31-34) vs Rangers (37-28)
Stanton has been good defensively, and has good speed. I'll keep him in the lineup. 3 games will not change my mind.
