I Love Me Some Fish
I find it extremely impossible to believe he'll never hit more than 31 home runs in a season.
MrMarlinPride
There is a reason I've never heard of that reporter he knows nothing... Also, he's only going to play til he's 35?

Nny
There is a reason I've never heard of that reporter he knows nothing... Also, he's only going to play til he's 35? John Sickels is one of the most respected prospect analyis. Also, something left out of the OP that is incredibly important: "Remember, the Crystal Ball is not a prediction or projection. It is intended to spark discussion about the player in question, in this case young Florida Marlins slugger Michael Stanton. How good will he be? Does this undersell him?" That's not his prediction or projection. It is simply there to start a discussion among his readers. And the poll winner: Too Pessimistic; his peak will be better http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/9/5/1670429/crystal-ball-michael-stanton
dim
Sickels is actually a pretty good writer and follows the minor league system pretty well. It's not surprising he feels this way. Writers tend to undersell predictions. They don't want to look stupid if they make outlandish predictions and they don't become true, thus they usually go on the lower edge of predictions. It's extremely hard to predict Mike Stanton's career stats, but if he reaches his power potential there should be no reason he doesn't reach at least 400 home runs in his career. Nny
Also, in his comment section: "Here is the thing with the crystal balls. Sometimes I pitch these to what I see as a player’s peak, sometimes to the midpoint, and sometimes to the floor. I usually don’t tell you which I’m doing beforehand, basically because I want to see how people react and I want you guys to hash it out in the discussion. This Stanton CB is a “floor view. I do see this as a possible outcome, but you could also do one where he his 600 homers and that would be quite possible too."
Iowa
This rollercoaster of people guessing his career numbers is quite entertaining. Sit back and take it all in. There will be ups and there will be downs. He's 20.
sgleason02
364 HR's over the course of 16 seasons, breaks down to almost 23 per season, which is drug down a bit by the last couple seasons in the projection where he doesn't get a full season's worth of at-bats. gizmo
I can't wait to see Stanton break the HR record
gizmo
Also if Stanton is half as good as we all hope, then i'll cry if he's not a career Marlin
mystikol87
It's depressing that he leaves us in 2016. And John Sickels is regarded as one the better minor-league guys around. He usually does a lot of the Baseball America prospect lists. If you haven't heard of him, you probably should have. :cool
Entendu
Does this seriously include the team's he'll be playing for?
Eddie Altamonte
Sickles is probably at the very top when it comes to following minor league baseball I may not agree with him all the time but he is putting it out there. Most other writers are limited in their scope when reviewing an organization top prospects. Sickles will go more in depth and give you a more significant list
I Love Me Some Fish
Does this seriously include the team's he'll be playing for? I'm guessing he didn't put too much thought into it...notice how he plays for 2 Cali teams (where he's from).
Piazza31
I'm laughing that he'll bunce from Miami to SF to ANA, to BOS, to LA. Seriously? A cornerstone bat? If he doesn't make it in florida, he won't go any further then one more team---look at hermida.
Dr Beinfest
Its not a matter of how long he plays... the fact that he has 18 this season and he hasnt played even half a season... Multiply his numbers by 2 and in his rookie season he's at 36 HRs. From his rookie season. (Im not claiming he'd hit that many, but to project that a 21 year old couldnt do that in the future? Come on...) This is basically saying that Stanton's HR abilities peaked before he completed a full season and he's going to hit... less HRs from here on out? What a moron. Van Greco
If this is the floor projection, then we are in for something special with Stanton' career. If he can develop some semblance of plate discipline he could be one of the greats because when he hits the ball he doesn't just hit it, he destroys it.
