Reveal 2017 mlb.com Top 100 prospect list
Michael Hill is such a terrible GM. How he has a job is truly beyond me. As has been stated time and again the Marlins problem is similar to that of the Angels. (except much worse due to the Marlins being flat out cheap). They have shit drafts. They refuse to get involved in the international market. They make generally speaking bad player deals (see last years trades). The Marlins are probably one of the most short sighted organizations in baseball, actually probably the most. Being so short sighted is why you see the Marlins where they are. Its truly sad. Its why Michael Hill should be fired and should be fired for cause. Any of you fans here, can probably general manage this team better than Michael Hill, even with the limitations imposed by that meddlesome owner, Jeffrey Loria.

2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Marlins didn't really have a choice. It's a sellers' market. We could have held out until Monday and maybe gotten the arms needed, or just pulled the trigger now. I think everyone is shocked at the cost of doing business, but as we have seen, its really on par with the existing cost for talent acquisition. You either have to: a) sign talent b) draft talent c) trade for talent Marlins have not done a great job in drafting talent especially in rounds 3+ recently. Marlins have been absent from the international markets by and large. So you are forced to either sign talent (which wasnt done enough of last winter) And now you have to trade for talent. The names seem like a lot, but when you have a farm system rated as one of the bottom 3, its going to appear like more talent was traded away than really was. Problem is, Marlins try to do everything on a budget and a shoestring budget at that. Small market teams need to focus on talent procurement via drafting and international markets as this is cheaper than signing free agents. But the Marlins dont do that, mostly due to their knee jerk reactions and rarely having a long term plan that they actually stick to. It is what it is. Enjoy the winning now, because then raises are going to be happening, that will most likely be curtailed and as history has shown, firesales have rarely resulted in sustained success.

No. It's because he is a quality hitting coach who left the Rangers due to his desire to work closer to Florida. Playing for the Marlins was just conjecture.

Nevin gets 2nd interview
Most qualified candidate outside of the rumors that Jeff Loria wants to hire Mattingly once he is scapegoated out of Los Angeles. (Since Bud Black would rather entertain being a pitching coach over managing the Marlins)

Because Jeff Loria is a man of his word?

Bowa getting second interview
Hiring Mike Redmond came at a time when managers were being hired with little to no experience. Mike Redmond actually had the MOST experience of managers hired in that period. Jeff Loria, being Jeff Loria pulled the plug too early on Redmond. You cannot hire a guy with little experience and expect him to be Mike Matheny, who is helped tremendously by the flat out depth of that organization (and willingness to spend money when needed). Now they are going to go after Admin Bowa (who was a terrible manager 10 years ago and I cant imagine him being more relatable to players now all of a sudden), or they will go after Don Mattingly because Jeff Loria knows him and likes him from his days as being a minority owner of the Yankees. There are worse guys, mostly due to Mattingly getting a raw deal in Los Angeles with that flawed roster, which wasn't his fault. I mean Christ, he pitched Kershaw and Grienke in 4 of the 5 games last series! He also made sure that Seager (most every day) was the starter and did so in a manner that didn't insult Jimmy Rollins like a bunch of other managers would have done. I'm still not a fan of Mattingly, but he isn't as bad in 2015 as he was in 2014 or 2013, et al.

Former Marlin, now available hitting coach. Jeff Loria would be wise to give his agent a call.

Bowa getting second interview
It's a Jeff Loria type move that accomplishes nothing in the grand scheme of things.

The Marlins Biggest Issue
Glad to see Jeff Loria has managed to do none of this. #1 and 2 aren't happening. There is no chance they will have a real budget to make #3 happen.

What catchers in MLB have their initials on their mask? I honestly do not know. Please name them.

The Marlins Biggest Issue
who said anything about Stanton being the biggest problem on this team? I'm just saying that instead of opening his mouth and basically saying that the roster is by and large not good enough, maybe he should look in the mirror. Facts are when this season went to shit in May, Stanton was by and large complete and utter trash. Stanton gets the most attention because well, he is the highest paid player. He is a prima donna, facts are facts. He just needs to go out there and be an example for the team to follow, at the very least, not be terrible when things are worst and basically blame all others. And that's not even the main point of this topic anyway.

The Marlins Biggest Issue
What other players have ever had their initial on their face mask in any sport? He was a little bitch back in May when they were talking about the manager being fired. His comments today are a bit bitchy. He should focus on playing better (back in May) and actually getting back on the field now. He should be leading this team, not its biggest bitcher. A comment to the media like, hey we need to focus on the things we need to focus on to improve, we all need to do better would be the comment he should have made, not the we aren't good enough aka my teammates suck comment he made. That's not how you fucking lead your team, and as the highest paid player, you are a leader whether you want to be or not.

The Marlins Biggest Issue
We can sit here and talk about this player or that player until we are blue in the face. The fact is that the problem is far bigger than any one player on this roster or even in this organization. The problem lies in the fact that the front office does the same shit on a yearly basis. It starts with Jeff Loria. Not so much the fact that he is the cheapest owner in baseball (he is), but in that he refuses to make organizational and/or cultural changes to franchise. Its the same morons that run the front office and have been for a good decade. They fire Beinfest as a move to show they are serious about changing stuff. Who do they replace him with? Other idiots from the front office. Loria is impatient with managers and it is only to the detriment of the on field product. Loria throws money at flashy signings, and none have ultimately worked out, but hey, it shows we are serious! If the Marlins were serious about building a winning organization and getting back to the World Series which Loria claims is the goal then they should do some of the following if not all: 1) Fire the front office. All of them. You have to change the culture of this organization. The same shit they allowed Hanley to do, they are allowing Giancarlo to do. Allowing him to have that stupid G on this face mask may have been the stupidest thing they have done in years or since Hanley was around. Why? It shows that its all about Giancarlo. They are going down the same path with Giancarlo (who is the worst leader they have had in years, and at 300 mil +, well you have to lead this team in some way. Being a bitch back in May when the manager talk was going on doesn't do it. Being a prima donna doesn't do it. Bitching recently about changes need to be made, doesn't do it. He must forget how fucking bad he was in the first six weeks. 2) Hire someone who is in complete control of baseball operations. You cannot have Jeff Loria and/or David Samson have any real involvement in the baseball operations. This shit doesn't work. 3) Make a decision that you are either going to spend money in development of players or you will just try to buy major leaguers. Since this organization claims poverty, you cant do both. You also can't do neither. Look at the other poor clubs and what they have done recently. They are winning. Why? They spend on developing players, through scouting, to the player procurement to the minor leagues. The Marlins have proven year after year that they are inept in this category. And it shows in the on field product. These are the top 3 things they should do. If they choose to not do #2, then they at least need to hire a General Manager who has a vision and let him execute that vision with little interference from ownership, only then will you see things turn around. As long as this front office remains in place, nothing is truly going to change.

Help me make a decision!
Since the Marlins make decisions by throwing at a dart board or spinning a wheel (depends on the mood on a certain day) We need to make some new decisions. Who should be DFA'd next? if not listed, please give your suggestions!

Lovers or Haters, you might want to listen to Boog
Pretty much what I've been saying the entire time. Two parties performed well this year: 1) front office management 2) on-field management. There was an irreparable rift between the two parties, so now you have to pick between the two. I have always maintained, even though Joe did well, that given a choice between the two, I pick Beinfest and Co. That's not to say Loria didn't handle the situation badly. He did. But now it's time to move on. best summary of the situation /thread I disagree... I happen to think Joe Girardi is what they once said about Ty Willingham at Notre Dame from Sunday to Friday, he's a fantastic coach, but come gametime, he doesnt really know what he's doing. even then, he had great results. so I have to give him credit for the results so did Ty in his first year in South Bend. He was a rookie MLB manager and guess what the Marlins have again, get ready for rookie mistakes. let's put it this way. Girardi was making the same dumb mistakes in September, he was making in April. If he were a player making the same dumb mistakes toward the end of his rookie year, he wouldnt be starting if he were a starter or on the roster if a reserve. You have to show improvement and thats something Girardi never really did. He was in over his head and only got the job due to this 'reputation' he developed at some point. It was a roll of the dice and Joe really needs to spend some time in the minors learning the finer points of managing a big league club.

Closer
German is gone. Bowyer was extremely disappointing this year. Kensing and Martinez are gone tiill 2008. One major factor in our closer may ultimately hinge on which pitchers end up in the rotation.
-
What coaches will stay if any?
Perry Hill will be back unless he decides he doesnt want to be in baseball for whatever reason next year. His loyalty was never to Girardi but to the organization. I'm not ever sure if Girardi wanted Hill on his staff, though its possible he did.

What is the Criteria That You Would Use to Evaluate Fredi Gonzalez?
its a combination of all of them with the exception probably being the playoffs. The playoffs is a bit subjective, this team played way over their heads at times this year, often in spite of the horrible decisions of their manager. Making the playoffs will determine firstly on health of the Marlins and the teams in the division. Secondly, its also going to depend largely on what happens this winter with all teams in this division and the National League as a whole. But with everything else, its definitely a combination of them all.

Rule V draft... Should we take a chance?
Deeds doesnt have enough speed to play CF.... then again, I didnt think Cody Ross did either well that answers that. Although if he has good instincts and has a good first step, you might be able to live with less than stellar speed.

2007 Fish
These are the guys who need to be back. Dan Uggla Hanley Ramirez Miguel Cabrera Josh Willingham Jeremy Hermida Miguel Olivo (if for only there are no 'better' options out there) Wes Helms Alfredo Amezaga (only as a utility player) I wouldnt mind seeing Jake back, he needs to do some major refining, but I still think he can be quite productive in this league for us. Pitchers: Dontrelle Willis Scott Olsen Josh Johnson Anibal Sanchez Taylor Tankersley The other guys I think you could see moved in the right deal or just not re-signed from the pitching staff, though I'd be more inclined to hold onto Pinto over Nolasco.
