  1. This is dumb. Wouldn't you rather see what Stanton looks like in a lineup with Ozuna, Dietrich, Yelich, and LoMo?I know I do. There is no rush to trade him now. See what you have with a healthy team first. If it's as good as it has the potential to be, who's to say Stanton doesn't decide he wants to stick around? And if he doesn't, they can still get a ton for him this offseason.
  2. Acquired Brandon Morrow for Brandon League. Acquired Colby Rasmus for a pile of s***. Jose Bautista has one of the best contracts in baseball. Edwin Encarnacion is not far behind. That's two legit power hitters at a nice price. When he took over, the team was a mess. You can't turn chicken s*** into chicken salad over night. It's not his fault that J.P. Ricciardi was a moron. They had the 28th ranked farm system when he took over. He turned it into a top-5 farm system that allowed him to get the talent he got this offseason via trades. I feel like he's done a good job of acquiring high-upside players for players with no upside. Some of his moves haven't turned out as well as expected, but that's the way it is. If you look at the process of his moves, they mostly make sense. In comparison, Admin Beinfest hasn't won a trade since...well, I don't know. He definitely made one that has turned out to be, quite possibly, the worst trade in the history of sports, though. I'm not saying his track record isn't better than Beinfest's, but that isn't exactly a high standard.
  3. Just remember that Jeff Mathis was the linchpin of one of the biggest blockbuster trades in recent years. That pretty much tells you that Beinfest and Anthopoulos are two of the dumbest GMs in baseball. Actually, that's not true. Anthopolous is a very good GM. He shouldn't be mentioned with Beinfest who basically hasn't made a great move in a decade. What makes Anthoupolous a good GM?? Yeah, I don't get it. Why is he considered good at his job? If anything, it's likely that the Marlins trade ends up being as a bigger disaster for the Jays then it was for us having to pay for all of Loria's bad investments. Besides the Marlins trade, he traded Halladay for what turned out to be basically Kyle Drabek. He traded Aaron Hill for Kelly Johnson. He traded one of his best prospects for an aging knuckleballer. Sorry, I don't see how he's considered a good GM.
  4. I think the left handers against lefties thing is a self fulfilling prophecy, GIVE THEM AT BATS AGAINST LEFTIES! and they might not struggle against them. Granted, Seeing left handed pitching is unreliable meaning you can go weeks without seeing a lefty for whatever reason (missing them in the rotation, injury, etc.) Agreed. Plus, in the minors, Brantly hit reasonably well against LHP...certainly well enough to justify not being in a platoon situation with a player like Mathis. Just throw him out there and give him all the ABs he can handle.
  5. Broward County approved $4.2 million for a new scoreboard at the BB&T yesterday. Great news, as the Panthers had the worst scoreboard in the NHL.
  6. Interesting read, but there are also a dozen other teams that many of the same things...low attendance, lots of discounts, scalpers not making money (oh no!)...can be written about. As for Samson, he's actually taking the correct approach. There's nothing they could say that would change anyone's opinion right now anyway so he may as well lay low. The only thing they could do that will make any difference is wait for Stanton and Lomo to get healthy and for Fernandez, Dietrich, Ozuna, Yelich, etc. to develop and hope the team becomes really good.
  7. Apparently, Heaney hasn't even pitched this year. Hmm. A couple of days ago, he tweeted that he's healthy and is just throwing extended innings. Says he should be back in 2-3 weeks.
  8. Stanton has a grade 2 strain. Looking like 3 weeks. Now he can't pass second grade? Dude really doesn't want to be here. Wow..that was a terrible joke!
  9. Stanton cant stay healthy anymore, should we be worried? He doesn't want to be here so he probably doesn't stretch right in order to get hurt. Probably needlessly puts himself in harms way too. I hope you are being sarcastic because that is a really dumb theory.
  10. Absolutely no way Stanton is gone for "15 days." I wouldn't be shocked if he's gone for months. Same goes for Hech. He's supposed to rejoin the team on Thursday in Philadelphia. That's great, but I've heard a lot of players would be back by a certain time and suddenly they are on the 60-day DL or out much longer than anticipated. I just wouldn't be shocked if he had a setback or wasn't ready by Thursday is all. By all means though I do hope he's back by Thursday. I don't want anyone to be injured. He played last night in Jupiter. If he has any setbacks at this point, it'll be as a result of playing...nothing you can do about that.

  12. Either he hits or he goes back down. I don't think a couple of weeks of at bats will ruin Ozuna's career. I mean, he does have over 1700 minor league plate at bats. I personally can't wait to see him play....I'm fine with it just so I don't have to watch a lineup of Pierre, Cogs, Diaz, Dobbs, Green, and Polanco.
  13. I had no idea how many games will be blacked out this year exactly, but last year it was 12 or 13 if I remember correctly. It's 6 games blacked out every year. The Marlins broadcast 150 and they show an additional 6 with the Rays. We're only getting 4 Rays games this year. Whatever it is, it's no where near 15-20 games blacked out.

  15. I thought the stadium was owned by the city/county? The stadium is 100% owned by M-D county. However, the Marlins are the "sole and exclusive operator and manager" of it. With "sole responsibility and authority and full control and discretion in the operation, direction, management and supervision of the Stadium Premises." http://www.miamidade.gov/internalservices/library/operating_agreement.pdf And that's the end of any contention along the lines of "the Marlins shouldn't have the right" to do whatever because they have the absolute right to throw anyone out of the joint for any reason they deem sufficient. Hell, an UMPIRE can eject a fan, never mind Marlins management and their agents. You want to buy a ticket to my event and then try to rain on my parade? You're going to be asked to leave and if you don't leave peacefully, you'll be forcibly ejected from the premises. Thanks for clearing up the sole management of a publicly-owned facility issue, but I have to disagree w/ you on a few points. The ticket license grants the ticket holder the right to admission provided the ticket holder follows the rules of conduct; I don't believe they have the right to remove someone from the premise for ANY reason they deem sufficient. What if a security guard wanted to remove someone behaving themselves simply because of their own prejudice? That being said, from what I've seen and read, it doesn't appear as if these fans violated the Stadium policies as posted on the website (which ironically enough, still says Sun Life Stadium!?!). http://miami.marlins.mlb.com/mia/ballpark/policies.jsp One could argue the "F Jeff" was profane clothing or the "Save the Marlins" sign as inflammatory (per the A to Z guide) but that's a stretch to me. Even Samson said the signs themselves were "fine." I also have a hard time believing they were blocking other people's view of the game or created a loud disturbance. According to the group, they entered the concourse, were immediately followed by police and Marlins security, interviewed by the media and then ejected from the premises before they even got to their seats in the 2nd inning. I know this is Miami we're talking about (thus practically another country), but removing someone from the building that's being critical of you seems fascist and contrary to American values. If the Marlins had the right to eject them because they were "raining on their parade," couldn't you argue wearing the Away Team's gear could create a disturbance under that standard? See how ridiculous that sounds? Well said, and I really like your analogy on wearing the away team's gear. Good point. Why are we just assuming what these guys said happened actually happened? They did have something to gain by getting ejected...they guys have a website they are promoting. You think the Marlins wanted MORE bad press? And, they didn't kick anyone else out of the stadium (there were plenty of others with similar signs/shirts). These guys must have done or said something to get themselves removed that is being left out of the story. They wanted the publicity and they knew getting kicked out would give it to them.
  16. There is something off with this story. I saw plenty of people with signs, shirts, and paper bags at the game and yet the 2 people that got ejected were the 2 people with a website to promote? The story makes no sense. I think they went with the intent of getting kicked out to drum up press for their site. Seems likely considering how they were yapping to every reported they could find. Right...and every reporter was looking for this exact story and don't think these guys didn't know it. In fact, Dave Hyde wrote that he was there to write about some other protesting fans that didn't show. Well these guys certainly gave him the story he wanted to write. Coincidence??

  18. This is the sad state of major league baseball in Miami right now. It's so sad, and so unneccessary. Sometimes I really wish Loria had taken the team to Las Vegas or San Antonio. That's such a dumb comment. Within 5 years, Loria will be gone and the Marlins will be here forever. If you can't put up with a few bad seasons, then you aren't much of a baseball fan.
  19. By the time his contract becomes an issue, none of these guys, including Loria, will be here.
  20. Everyone keep pointing Solano's minor league numbers as to why he can't hit at this level, but his minor league career started at age 17. He was in AAA at age 21. Most of his 3000 minor league at bats occurred when he was extremely young for whatever league he was in. Why is it so out of the realm of possibility that between the ages of 23 and 25, he's figured something out? Sure, he won't hit for much power, but all he's done since becoming a Marlin is hit consistently.
  21. Santana re-injured his shoulder and is likely done for the year.
  22. Not unusual. I believe that the Phillies switched bullpens after a year in Citizens Bank Park so that the opposing team would have to deal with the fans next to the upper bullpen.
  23. I thought it was a pretty good segment. Samson came off as well as he could have under the circumstances. The Marlins problem is that they are in a no-win spot. They can't say nothing, but to most people, anything they do say just sounds like lies and excuses. Samson did what Loria should have been doing the past week and just take responsibility, appolgize to the fans, and say you'll try to do better in the future. It's all they can do at this point. It doesn't change anything, but it's a heck of a lot better than being condescending.
  24. I really don't like this move for the Fish. Figgins has been awful for two years now and I think he's toast as a major league player. How can you not like a minor league deal? He's either good or he's gone.
  25. Worth a shot. Perhaps he can provide a challenge to Solano for the 2B job.
