Penny, Choi, Murphy for Enc, Mota, LoDuca DEAL

Featured Replies

Maybe it's contigent on the Randy Johnson, Admin Walker and Charles Johnson trades? All three can veto a trade.

If we can pull of Walker for Enc, Nunez, etc. then this was a good deal.

Unfortunately I think it makes it clear that we're going for broke this year to try and secure a stadium deal, the future be damned.

I just don't see how Beinfest can sit at his desk and say to himself. This trade is going to help us.

I'm almost sure theres more than what we know.

Choi :crying

I hate to see Choi go...the deal isn't that bad, maybe we could have kept Choi and they could have kept Encarnation?

Yes, I can see this happening. Got to worry that God forbid we don't make it this year to the playoffs...what then?

I don't get the love-fest for Ishii.....he's got an ERA over 4 in a pitchers park, and has plenty more walks than K's. WTF?

Its over. The stadium is the whole ballgame. Clearly the Marlins think that winning this year is the key to getting a stadium.

I'll wear my Choi jersey tonight one last time

I'll miss Brad and Hee Seop. I need a tissue.

can you really blame them in thinking so?

one WS doesnt get you a new park...maybe 2 will do the trick :lol

f*** You Admin Beinfest.

That is all.

agreed

I hate to say it but now the Giants will have to shoot for the Wild Card, which will be meaningless if the Dodgers win the division

I cannot understand why everyone is lambasting beinfest about this trade. I think this is a tremendous trade for the fish. It was widely agreed that the marlins had outstanding starting pitching prior to the trade, possibly the best five outside a healthy chicago. However, that was their ONLY positive. Offensively, their catcher postion has been worhless; it has been another pitcher's spot in the lineup, an easy out. In fact, i'd rather have most of pitchers up hitting than our "catchers". Secondly, outside of benitez we had a bullpen that might as well have been filled with tee-ball stands. And Choi, whom i do like very much and think that someday will be outstanding, had been very unreliable in RBI situations.

After the trade, things are looking much better. We add perhaps BEST non-closer bullpen arm in the league, and a pitcher that would be a closer on most teams if Gagne wasn't present. With Mota, if we have a lead going into the seventh, we have a win. Lo Duca, is a GREAT catcher. He is experienced. He is excellent offensively. And what could be most important, he is a team leader. Lo Duca is a team player that knows how to handle pithcers, and knows how to be a strong clubouse presence. Lastly, do you guys forget how invaluable Encarnacion was to our team last year in winning the wildcard? He had over 90 RBIs. That is tremendous. He plays outstanding defense and sures up another spot in our lineup. Additionally, he might not even be our left fielder as Craig Minarvini is reproting that we might exchange him for Walker, a real offensive stud, in a trade with colorado.

With all this said, we detracted from our one proven positive -- starting pitching -- to vastly improve our overall team. Think about it like a video game, with team ratings based on various team-components:

Before trade:

Starting Pitching: *****

Offense: **

Bullpen: **

After Trade:

Starting Pitching: ****

Offense: ****

Bullpen: ****

Now, we are far more balanced team that is far more capable of winning more games, because we are not one dimensional anymore. We have a multi-faceted attack that will keep other teams on their toes.

Plus, Penny has been complaining about elbow problems to teammates (reported by ESPN). And he is out of shape, as evident by his "heat stroke" the other day, and his large waist size.

This is a good deal for the fish. If we want to improve the overall team, we can't keep everything as is. I think Beinfest is one of the best GMs in baseball, and i don't think he's done working his magic yet. We might still see more to come.

Man I'm really sick of people bringing up rbis to show how much value a player has.

you don't think RBIs count for anything? how do you think runs are scored? think players magically cross home plate? They NEED TO BE KNOCKED IN.

We traded Penny for this pitching performance?

RBIs is more who's batting in front of you. You bat in front of a Bonds or a Pujols the entire year, you'll probably get 100 RBIs easily

No, but rbis have as much to do with the guys batting infront of the player than the player himself. You aren't going to get many rbis if the guys infront of you aren't getting on.
