Malman
LoDuca has been receiving some criticism on this board recently. I wanted to point out that Paulie currently ranks (among starting NL catchers): 2nd - Runs 2nd - RBI's 3rd - BA 4th - OBP 5th - SLG Not bad...and a tremendous improvement over Mike Redmond. I would put LoDuca in the top tier of NL catchers along with Estrada & Kendall. Go LoDu and Go Fish! :thumbup

Admin
Correct, Treanor cant hit and Redmond has some DP's too 555885[/snapback] Red is a solid hitter. I want Paul in there as much as possible though.
fishywishy
Even during his slumps he still manages to pepper in a few key base hits, a few RBIs here and there. He rules all of you.
mafatumatt
paul tends to not do well in the second half, and he's just going with his regular trend. but the fact of the matter is he is still a great catcher even when he goes into his second half slump. legacyofCangelosi
Red is a solid backup catcher and should start once in a while so we dont burn dookie out
Hotcorner
exactly, I just want the guy to rest a game so he doesn't collapse out there! maybe a game off would get his bat going again.

marlin2266
Fast fact LoDuca born 4/12/72 Pudge born 11/27/71 Paulie spent a lot of time in the minors, so he's still arby eligible for next year. I'd love to see Loria sign him for 3 years at 24MM (sound familiar?)
MarlinsChik305
agree. ducy is just in a slump , and hell b out of it soon. ppl are quik to judge a player on a couple of games. but paul loduca is awsome.
Accord
LoDuca is doing fine, but man those PB's are killing us. Personally, Mike Lowell hitting into a double play everytime he comes to the plate is by far the biggest problem with our offense right now. I'm sorry but Lo Duca isn't close to being as good as Pudge. Javy Lopez got less than that.
FishFan24
You'll never find another Pudge...EVER. But Paul looks like a pretty good stand in and he's done a good job for the Fish. So I'll take him. :thumbup

Chasecdt
Does anybody know How long Paul Lo Duca is going to be a Florida Marlin? I just was wondering because Ivan Rodriguez was only a Marlin for a Season. It just seems like the Marlins never keep anybody that is good, Just like what happen to the 97 Marlins, when they got rid of all there player's like Gray sheffeld and Alou. Every time we win the world series the same thing happens.
rferry
It's just that the catcher position isn't that hard to replace. As long you can catch the ball and throw the ball back to the pitcher you're fine defensively. While we've seen what LoDuca's passed balls and Treanor's wild arm can do to move up baserunners, it's very rare that a catcher makes a significant impact defensively. Unfortunetly it's also a position where there's not much offensively either. After the top tier of catchers (Pudge, Javy, Posada, Varitek, Piazza, Victor Martinez and to lesser degree Estrada, Kendall, and Charles Johnson) the offensive production of the rest is rather muddled. A LoDuca is better but not that really that much better than a Mike Redmond who isn't much better than a Brent Mayne, and so on down the until you get to the Mike Mathenys. It's just one of those positions where there's a huge talent drop off, offensively atleast, and you shouldn't be overpaying at a position where there are much cheaper alternatives. A 32 year old slap-hitting catcher who is not good defensively is not worth $5-8 million. Throw in a dozen homers and he's still not worth the $4 million he's making. Replacement all-star or not. We have more than suitable replacements should we divert his salary to resigning Pavano, Beckett, Burnett, Mota/Benitez and filling that black hole in right and bench. And I know LoDuca was a leader with the Dodgers, and many (esp. in the media) want to pretend Pudge singlehandedly carried the team last year despite his poor hitting last September. I believe leadership and chemistry are huge! They're the difference if a team can get off the ground or fall apart when times get tough. The leaders on this team are the Mike Lowells, the Jeff Conines, the Mike Redmonds, the Luis Castillos. They are the Marlins' 'heart and soul', just like LoDuca was to the Dodgers. Maybe you want to believe he came in here and reenergized the team, but I'm not going to buy a guy walking in from another clubhouse and instantly becoming a leader. Pudge was hated in the Rangers clubhouse and loved in the Tigers. Carl Everett and Milton Bradley have found friends in new clubhouses. Kevin Millar is loved by sme, disliked by others. One person does not change a clubhouse, hell, three people don't make a clubhouse. They don't take over, they melt in and find their own role. P.S. Since the all-star break: LoDuca .751, Lenny Harris .909. Ready your paychecks.

So they must let go expensive players so they can field a decent or good team with cheaper players. That will change with the new stadium though :thumbup

miami15
No bad words from me for Paulie, he's been busting his ass since he got here, but it's unfortunate that he's hitting .160-something in September. Worst time for a slump. He'll snap out of it soon enough though.
