after a long night of rain i was wondering whether or not we'd play this afternoon. instead of leaving at 8:45 for ft. lauderdale, we stayed back and left at 10:15. we went ahead and took our batting practice in the cages since it was probably to wet to hit on the field down in ft. lauderdale. we arrived down there about 11:20 and the orioles were taking batting practice on the field. to my surprise, the outfield was pretty dry. of course i'm sure they had the tarp covering the infield overnight so i had no doubts it would be dry. game time came around and Moehler had the start. he had a 50 pitch limit or 3 innings -whichever came first. well it certainly wasn't his 50 pitches as he only threw 30 over the course of 3 innings. i think he only gave up one hit, that was a lead-off single. other than that he had his sinker workign well (or so i could tell from the bullpen) and was getting groundball after groundball. les walrond threw the next two innings and only had 1 base runner as well. nate bump followed up with one shutout inning. it wasn't until the top of the 6th (i think) that our hits came around each other. aguila went 2-3 with 2 singles - one to right, one to left. juan pierre led off the 6th with a line drive single to right. castillo got his first hit of the spring with a single to right field also. with one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd (after a failed pickoff attempt at second base, the runners advanced), lowell hit a line drive down the right field line which drove in both runs. the orioles responded with 1 run in the bottom of the 7th when sosa hit a fastball by belisario for a towering homerun - i was surely impressed. top of the 8th rolls around (i've went in to catch in the bottom of the 7th). i was due up 3rd that inning. reed led off and grounded out. easley drew a walk. i worked the count to 3-2 and hit a double that one hopped the center field wall. time to stop being modest ! haha. i was still very nervous during the at-bat but i'm learning to calm myself down. it's a privelege to be on the same field with legends like sosa, palmiero, and tejada. not really sure who it was that walked and was on first during the bottom of the 8th, but the orioles failed to execute a hit and run and i was able to throw out the runner by about 5 feet. haha. at first i thought the throw was going to bounce short, but it carried and was right on the money about 5 inches off the ground. mota came to the mound to close the game. one guy got an infield single and then stynes hit a fastball to right field. but with 2 on and 2 outs he got a fly out to right field on a change up to end the game. all i got for today. i'm tired. gonna watch the news and hang out with pops who's in town until tuesday

Admin, very nice. Maybe you could create a subforum to keep all these entries in one place. It is nice to see this day-to-day look. Once the month is done, it will be neat to look back.

On behalf of myself and my son, who's first LL game is tomorrow, Ryan I want to say thanks for the insights you're been providing.

Recounting Wiley's comment to Dontrelle about "seeing" the ball in the catcher's mitt before you throw it was perfect, and today's, about admitting to your nervousness at the plate and learning how to stay calm under that pressure, is exactly the kinds of things kids are impacted by. Thanks.

Good luck this spring, and from a parent, I want you to know we appreciate your journal.

Nice Journal Jorg!

I remember when he got that hit.. WOW.. he really stung that ball :)

And when he thew out the runner trying to steal second.. that was a PERFECT throw :)
