You know, for some reason I'm not too bothered by this. I think the Giants have a complete team, and they'll be able to compete without him. Although, I really think Bonds was just talking out of frustration. Every player going through rehab goes through a certain point where they wonder if it's all worth it and if they'll ever feel healthy again. It's perfectly normal.

Having said that, Pedro Feliz is due for a breakout year. I say start him in LF and leave him there until Bonds comes back, IF Bonds comes back. I honestly believe a confident and steady Feliz will put up huge numbers. A lineup of Durham, Vizquel, Snow, Alou, Feliz, Alfonzo, Grissom, and Matheny is still damn good... On top of that, our pitching should be phenomenal with Matheny leading them. Time to show the rest of the world that the San Francisco Giants are more than Barry Bonds. They are 25 men, not one.

I'm still excited as hell about this season !!!

wasnt feliz given the third base job a couple years ago and failed miserably?

has he finally 'learned' to hit big league pitching on a consistent basis over the past two years as a bench player?

No, he wasn't given the job... You might be thinking of Russ Davis years back... Feliz has never had a chance to start every day. In 2002, we had David Bell. After that, we got Edgardo Alfonzo. Feliz put up solid numbers last season (.276 BA, 22HR, and 84 RBI). He got a lot of at bats rotating around 1b, 3b, SS, and some OF. He's also having a tremendous spring... I definitely think he's ready to play every day.

The giants are still solid enough. Of course they shouldnt be counted out they have JT Snow, who is way better than msot other first baseman in the league included Delgado (based on OPS i believe), according to mays24bonds25 .

So how long is Bonds out for? Some say a few months, some say forever. Will he be back before the Giants are in town in mid-August?

It depends on Barry.

He's "tired".

I guess getting off the juice would do that to you.

Bonds is such a bitch. He's trying to make people feel bad for him. Blaming the media for his health problems. He was even using his own son to try and get sympathy. Total bulls***.

He wasnt blaming theinjury on the media, he was talking about retirement...

It's a very good team if they can stay healthy (and if Alou puts up similar numbers to last season). However, Alfonzo is a 2nd half player, Matheny is rather average on offense, and Durham, Vizquel, and Grissom are on their last legs. I agree with the fact that the pitching will be solid, and Schmidt should have a career year. However, they seem to be missing that one star or slugger (depending on whether or not Feliz breaks out as you said) who drives pitchers crazy and intimidates them. I think that they can win the division, considering they're in the NL West. I'm not sure if they'd succeed in the playoffs, however. Just my 2 cents...

The Giants made the mitake of having a team that is elderly. I doubt this is their last costly injury.

But they have the depth to give the old guys time off when needed... Guys like Pedro Feliz, Jason Ellison, Tony Torcato, Yorvit Torrealba, Deivi Cruz... They have a good bench, and the pitching staff is not old... They'll be fine.

I really hope the rest of the NL West is thinking like you guys are... If they take it easy against the Giants, you'll see them runaway with the division.

Having one star slugger is a necessity when there is no balance in a lineup. The Giants have balance... Both Marlins championship teams didn't have that one star slugger either. The 07 Marlins had Sheffield, Bonilla, and Alou, but Sheffield had a bad year. The 03 team had Pudge, but I'd hardly call his numbers "Slugger numbers."

As long as they get to the playoffs, anything can happen. How many people predicted Florida to win it in 03, or Anaheim in 02?? It just takes the hottest team in October to win it all.

Mike Lowell and Derreck Lee and 30+.

Lowell woulda had 40 if not for the hand injury.

In this day and age, hitting 30 homeruns doesn't classify you as a slugger.
