Posted April 30, 200520 yr Mota is back in South Fla with elbow discomfort Spooney come back! and maybe this gives Messenger or Miadich the call if he goes on the DL
April 30, 200520 yr Hopefully just precautionary Jones looks like he has the balls to save games for us tho
April 30, 200520 yr great.. we went from a stacked bullpen, to having the two guys considered closers hurt. hope it isnt anything serious with guillermo
April 30, 200520 yr Maybe Mecir can close? Who knows. Hopefully Mota will be ok, and we haven't needed a closer yet.

April 30, 200520 yr Well they have a bunch of guys at Triple A that are capable relief men, but hopefully Mota's injury isn't serious. Go JWNES, (and as much as I hate to say it, you are so clever, Ramp)
April 30, 200520 yr Until Jones blows a save, he's my guy. :thumbup 758548 Well, it looks like he's the guy this weekend.
April 30, 200520 yr Well then hopefully its nothing serious with Mota and this is only a temporary thing.
April 30, 200520 yr Well then hopefully its nothing serious with Mota and this is only a temporary thing. 758551 Took the words right out of my mouth.
April 30, 200520 yr Is Jones really that much of a step down from Mota anyway? I have not been impressed with Mota as the closer. Not bad, but not overly impressive either. I don't think Jones is any better or any worse.
April 30, 200520 yr Jones is a proven closer. I have no doubts in him. Did very good today against the phils on getting us out that jam and closing out the game in the 9th
April 30, 200520 yr Maybe Mecir can close? 758455 Mecir can only pitch one inning per game and he can't pitch back-to-back days. I think that takes him out of the running.
April 30, 200520 yr Maybe Mecir can close?? 758455 Mecir can only pitch one inning per game and he can't pitch back-to-back days. I think that takes him out of the running. 758568 He is our only other option right now. He will backup Jones for now.
April 30, 200520 yr Author Jones is a proven closer. I have no doubts in him. Did very good today against the phils on getting us out that jam and closing out the game in the 9th 758561 Jones looked anything BUT solid in the 9th... he got bailed out by Rollins baserunning too
April 30, 200520 yr Do you guys think that Jones would be ready if neccessary tomorrow despite having thrown all of those pitches? On top of that, if he is ready, do you think he would be the first choice with that kind of rest?
April 30, 200520 yr The guy pitched one and two-thirds innings tonight knowing (before the game started) "he" was the guy Jack entrusted tonight's victory to and that Mota was injured. If Mota is out for more than a few days one has to assume Jones going to pitch exclusively in the closer role until either Mota returns or another closer is acquired.
