Is Jones really that much of a step down from Mota anyway? I have not been impressed with Mota as the closer. Not bad, but not overly impressive either. I don't think Jones is any better or any worse.

Jones is a proven closer. I have no doubts in him. Did very good today against the phils on getting us out that jam and closing out the game in the 9th

Mecir can only pitch one inning per game and he can't pitch back-to-back days. I think that takes him out of the running.

Do you guys think that Jones would be ready if neccessary tomorrow despite having thrown all of those pitches? On top of that, if he is ready, do you think he would be the first choice with that kind of rest?

The guy pitched one and two-thirds innings tonight knowing (before the game started) "he" was the guy Jack entrusted tonight's victory to and that Mota was injured.

 

If Mota is out for more than a few days one has to assume Jones going to pitch exclusively in the closer role until either Mota returns or another closer is acquired.
