Like he has the rest of National League this season, Florida Marlins' left-hander Dontrelle Willis has dominated the New York Mets in his career.

He'll aim to do so again when Florida and New York continue their series at Dolphins Stadium.

 

Willis' unorthodox delivery continues to be his trademark, but it his improved mound composure that Florida manager Jack McKeon believes has turned the left-hander into a top of the rotation starter.

 

Willis, who is trying to equal the 9-1 start he posted during his NL Rookie of the Year campaign in 2003 season, agrees.

 

``Before, as in '03, I might have tried to throw angry pitches in that situation,'' he said. ``Now, I just try to stay calm and relaxed. Mentally, I know what I have to do. Before I was dumbfounded about going into new parks and everything.''

 

Willis has been especially tough at home this season, going 6-0 with a 0.96 ERA in six starts.

 

The left-hander hasn't encountered any difficulty with the Mets, going 5-0 with a 2.31 ERA in seven career starts against them.

 

Florida has dropped the first two games of this four-game set and has lost three straight games following a six-game winning streak.

 

New York has won two straight after a four-game losing streak, including a 1-0 win on Friday night. The Mets scored their only run on back-to-back doubles by Mike Cameron and Cliff Floyd in the fourth inning.

 

``The way I've been swinging the bat, I'll take the RBI,'' said Floyd, who's hitting .150 (3-for-20) on the road trip. ``But this game is about defense and pitching.''
